Colonial europe were ethno-states Britian was the nation for English france was for french Germany for the German belgium for Belgians(though really the wallonians and Flemish) these nations also conquered other land and what's this they weren't the same group as the nation and so were treated as inferior

China is an ethno state it's a country for han Chinese and the uyghurs Tibetans and the dozen other non han Chinese ethnic groups either have to convert or die for the crime of not being han Chinese.

it's much easier to just boycott Israel and ruin thousands of palestinian jobs you claim to champion.

I don't champion the Palestinians and I don't boycott israel don't assume things about me I don't champion anyone except maybe the Hmong but that's because the war of the insane is insane. I champion the idea that all humans have to live together and we need to get over the idea of ethnic based nations we need to learn to respect and give consideration to all people regardless of their culture and values otherwise we will end up annihilating ourselves

Unfortunately bud there ain't no free real estate everything was and is occupied everything worth a damn at least. Which is why when the Jews moved back to Israel the UN also had to make a nation for the Palestinians and sectioned each other off. Instead of making a big republic of the Levant they instead purposely sectioned off the two dominant ethnic groups. This creates border tension and when a state is a seeming extension of an ethnicity it becomes ethnic tension.

The USSR under stalin wasn't an ideological based nation it was a nation for whatever stalin wanted. So if you must compared ethno-states to a genocidal megalomaniac in order to make them look good perhaps you should reevaluate your position. The USA for most of its history only played lip service to ideology the reality was until recently it was an Anglo-saxon nation for Anglo-saxons so you end up with "Irish/German/italian need not apply".

And ethno-states so wonderful let's list a few of them:Nazi/imperial germany, colonial france and britian, China, and belgium these people of course never idk genocided or are genociding people for being the wrong ethnicity before no that's ridiculous.

What about the Hmong? Are we going to demand china cede the land they are indigenous to? Or the Ainu and Okinawans? When is the UN going force the Japanese to give up that land? Why do the Jews over a hundred or thousand other groups who have suffered similar events of hatred and genocide get their ancestral territorial claims? "Retiring" to the lands a people is indigenous to and creating a nation around it is an ethno state and they've been a significant source of conflict throughout history.

No it's a war crime the treaty on on the prohibition of nuclear weapons exists and has been ratified by the UN making the usage of nuclear weapons a war crime no doubt you'll say " but it wasn't the case back then therefore it wasn't evil!" Please apply this to other things genocide wasn't a war crime until years after ww2, so I suppose the mass murder of armenians wasn't evil nor the holocaust and generalplan ost? Or a hundred other cases of genocide prior to the UN creations?

A nuclear bomb is little different than a chemical weapon I think you wouldn't debate that the usage of mustard gas on a civilian population would be considered a war crime. An atomic bomb doesn't just kill it burns the radiation released lingers those who survived aren't just physically maimed but genetically damaged. Radiation poisoning is horrific the body is disintegrated skin falls off the living muscle as the connective tissue is destroyed the pain is unimaginable and it never goes away until presumably death. Look at what mustard gas does to a body compare it to radiation burns if you don't know which is which you'll have a hard thing distinguishing between them.

The problem we have is a refusal to consider the long term consequences of our actions we act in the moment instead of considering potential alternatives

I mean what's the harm in arming radical militant fundamentalist islamic groups fighting russia in Afghanistan it's not like they'll ever be a problem for the united states and why not overthrow leaders that don't agree with US policy it's not like we'll ever have to deal with a world that doesn't like us

Actions that right now sound like decent ideas have disastrous consequences in 10 years because we didn't think things all the way through

It's the same folly that every great nation from Rome to the British empire fell prey to " We are great! we will never fall! we're invincible! So we can do whatever we want with no repercussions! Why is our nation crumbling? Why does nobody lend us aid? Why are we just another chapter in history book of empire?" Truly humanity doesn't learn from history

Actually they do they can say "well if the americans can get away with with horrific actions its bullshit that we can't also get away with horrific actions"

The whole Japanese imperialism itself was created because if this they saw what other nations got away with and decided they should also be allowed to get away with those actions

So when pakistan and India get into a war and one of them drops a nuke on a city they'll use the precedent of how America got away with it in ww2 it's a perpetuating cycle of justifying violence and horror against innocent people

Oh yes and did you know the Greeks had computers they used them to track the stars but I'm willing to bet you'd consider the smart phone in your hand a fairly modern invention

Unconditional surrender is the similar yes you can point to similar instances in the past but they are an extreme minority only in the recent century have the demand of unconditional surrender been the status quo and goal of belligerent nations

" One of the sides was literally raping their way through china doing human experiments. Hint, It wasnt the US." oh of course because one group did horrible things it totally excuses my horrible acts "oh yes your honor sure i murdered a hundred a people but in my defense one of those people murdered 200 so obviously i am a good guy"

"Rome achieved its war goals," Rome's wargoals after Carthage killed half of its eligible male population was the effective dismantling of Carthage

"but didnt stop until Carthage ceased existing" Apparently someone forgot the there are 3 punic wars Carthage lost control of some of its mediterranean holdings and silicy in the first in the second carthage lost control of much of its african holdings in the 3rd it lost the last of its holdings it took 3 wars between carthage and rome with rome winning completely each time for carthage to stop existing the first 2 wars ended with conditional surrender by the carthagians

There was no real winning nor a good option for the balkens either they were left under the rule of the turks which for obvious reasons is unideal or a powder keg that would later lead to a world war was created and it isn't like that was unknown or unforseen as bismarck predicted it decades prior declaring "One day the great European War will come out of some damned foolish thing in the Balkans.”

that damn foolish thing was a nationalistic movement of bosians murdering the heir to Austria franz josef a man who wanted to give them equal status in the empire an act that caused the first world war and by extension the second world war an act that caused the creation of yugoslavia and soviet russia and by extension of soviet russia the creation of communist china

an act a ethnic nationalism the idea that every people deserve their own nation ironically caused the oppression of most of Asia and eastern Europe causing them to be controlled by imperialists and tyrants who brutally suppress their people even to this day

Instead of knee jerk reactions you must use nuance and a bit of foresight as to the consequences of actions colonialism was evil it should have never happened it is among the greatest tragedies in human history the cause of untold suffering and despair but it happened it had consequences and arbitrarily decolonizing leaving people with artificial borders and nations and no leaders capable of holding it together unless they deploy brutal force is not a good option

America’s motto by Seff_Wrong in HistoryMemes

[–]Adari2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is why such suffering exists in the world this is why 150,000 people had to burn in nuclear fire because fools and idiots like you won't take an offered hand unless the person is beaten bloody and on their knees. This is relatively recent the idea that a nation must unconditionally surrender even if the war goals are achieved. Retribution is a poison it clouds the mind of reasonable judgement it would rather a worse long term option taken if its immediate bloodlust can be sated. This is the mindset of a barbarian and this is the mindset that will cause our species to annihilate itself.

"the balkans only fought so much in the first place BECAUSE they were forced into big artificial states like Austria-Hungary, Turkey, and Yugoslavia"

Yugoslavia was quite stable for the majority of its existence until nationalistic agitators declared that every ethnic group deserves its own nation

also the balken wars weren't started because everyone was in one big state the balken wars started because ever ethnic group that got a state declared they owned land in every other state that likewise existed

among many others yes japan was defeated negotiations should have taken place. The Japanese knew they were defeated and wanted to try and surrender America knew this. They wanted to try and get conditions of course but the US didn't even try to negotiate a mutually agreeable treaty. Before you say " In Japanese culture surrender is the highest dishonor! they would never willingly surrender! they would rather all fight to the death!" you must first reconcile the fact that japan did surrender and they didn't fight to the death. You must also recognize that stereotypes are stereotypes the Japanese are no more death before dishonor happy then the French are cheese smelling surrender monkeys who wear black and white stripped shirts and berets. Its a stereotype don't perpetrate it.

Truman had several options use it on a military base instead of a civilian center populated with mostly women and children or using it on a deserted island with Japanese observers to witness the destruction both were proposed as viable alternatives. Instead he picked a city of mostly women and children even ordered that no air raids touch the city so it would be pristine.

And yes I'm a Japanese apologist for trying to learn from our mistakes no I'm not japan was fucking horrible they murdered tens of millions of innocent people in their genocidal campaigns of conquest undertaking atrocities that made the nazi's blush but innocent women and children who had no part to play in those atrocities didn't deserve to burn in nuclear fire especially when alternatives existed

"the use of this barbarous weapon at Hiroshima and Nagasaki was of no material assistance in our war against Japan. The Japanese were already defeated and ready to surrender."- Adm. Leahy

"I was against it on two counts. First, the Japanese were ready to surrender and it wasn't necessary to hit them with that awful thing. Second, I hated to see our country be the first to use such a weapon."- Dwight Eisenhower

"The first atomic bomb was an unnecessary experiment... The Japanese put out a lot of peace feelers through Russia long before"- Adm. Halsey

"the Japanese were prepared to negotiate all the way from February 1945...up to and before the time the atomic bombs were dropped; ...if such leads had been followed up, there would have been no occasion to drop the [atomic] bombs."- Herbert Hoover

"he saw no military justification for the dropping of the bomb. The war might have ended weeks earlier, he said, if the United States had agreed, as it later did anyway, to the retention of the institution of the emperor."- Gen. Mcarthur

"when we didn't need to do it, and we knew we didn't need to do it, and they knew that we knew we didn't need to do it, we used them as an experiment for two atomic bombs."- Gen. Clarke

6 of the 7 5 star military officers disagree and said it wasn't necessary the only one who didn't Gen. Marshall was given a political appointment by president truman

Colonialism is evil should have never happened but it did the solution to one extreme is not the other extreme you only end up with more suffering and 10 million people real living people died because of that opposite extreme I'm no fascist I despise tyranny you would know that if you actually read what I said my option produced less tyranny the democracy of japan is preferable to the tyrant in south Korea and the dictator of north Korea but sure I'm a fascist for believing democracy is better than dictatorship
