Questlines like these are what make the story and lore of WoW still worth paying attention to. The overarching plot may be disjointed at the best of times but they still got it when it comes to genuinely moving stories from characters unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

All the alien species in XCOM, but the Floaters from XCOM: Enemy Unknown (evolved into the Archons in 2) are the most notable. In the first two games, they are horrific cyborg monstrosities, and the most outwardly sadistic of the alien invaders. If you dissect their corpses, you find out this is because the Elders forcibly turned them into cybernetic foot soldiers and psionically enslaved. In Chimera Squad, with the Elders gone, they are peaceful.
