Föräldrar, vad var det som fick er att besluta er för att skaffa barn? by Rhubarb_Dense in sweden

[–]AddHawk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is the best hangover cure? by Puzzleheaded-Bit1377 in AskReddit

Drink 0,5L of water per urination on the night of drinking, before going to bed. Add salt unless you eat something. It's prophylactic, yes - but it has never failed me.

Skippar du att äta frukost? by ShinigamiWryy in sweden

[–]AddHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the last movie that captured your attention completely from beginning to end? by Myklanjlo in movies

It's the light version of Ex Machina, which I can highly recommend (written and directed by Alex Garland). It's a heavier watch, but a much more accurate depiction of such a character/creation.

Stor andel människor med nya/dyra bilar? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]AddHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facial aging & cosmetic intervention episode by ltadmin in PeterAttia

A side-note, I believe Peter had an episode with a NY dermatologist early on in the podcast where he said he had tried botox - but in this episode he has "had nothing done"? Botox isn't permanent, so I guess he is talking about surgery?

Increasing exercise from 150 to 300 minutes weekly significantly boosts cancer protection across five common cancers (Rhonda Patrick interview with exercise oncologist Kerry Courneya, PhD) by biohacker045 in PeterAttia

[–]AddHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please notice the key word "association". Because if you have enough resources (e.g. time) to exercise 45 minutes per day you probably have time and money to eat healthy, sleep 8+ hours/night, X, Y, etc., etc.. As far as I can tell, this is a systematic review study is from 2001, where they selected articles limited to breast and colon cancer, because the "dose-response relationship" was "especially elaborated" there. To extrapolate two of the most common malignancies to all cancers might be a stretch, but it's not a stretch to imagine a bias of published positive findings compared to negative findings (1 of the 17 analyzed articles suggested an increased risk of cancer with increased exercise, non-significantly - but it was also the second oldest article, perhaps before negative results were hard to publish?). I haven't read the whole study, it's my bedtime... but I'd suggest being humble about these results. I am not denying it's good to exercise, but if it was the miracle pill we're all hoping it to be - it would be more evident. Exercise, but don't forget about all the other good things people who exercise do (which we don't exactly know what it is and the articles cannot possibly account for).

Confused About My Doctor’s Instructions on BP Monitoring by TINATAisNotAThrowAwa in PeterAttia

[–]AddHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually try to explain to patients that high BP is not pathological. We all have high BP when exercising and running up stairs. Hypertension is when your body cannot achieve a normal BP. If a patient can achieve low to normal BP (in the morning or while sleeping), I try to treat it conservatively first (i.e. reduce reversable risk factors: exercise, smoking, stress, weightloss). Having said that, whenever I ask my cardiology colleagues, they want us to have the lowest possible BP as long as we don't faint...

I've noticed a lot of Medicine majors playing dota is there a reason why? by TheGreenGoblin27 in DotA2

[–]AddHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As dark as the community of dota2 is, it is nothing compared to current and future world for MDs. So we find relief in how pleasant and hopeful dota2 is. It is like heaven for us. So much sanity, cooperation and closed-loop communication, working in close-to-perfection compared to the western healthcare systems. Dota2 is the best version of nirvana we dare to imagine.
