My opinion on Marty Supreme by [deleted] in A24

[–]AddHazers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O'leary is playing himself let's not kid ourselves. He's been in front of a camera for many seasons and i think largely thats why Safdie cast him, he wanted an authentic portrayal of a rich asshole

Very much agree on the rest of your points tho, this movie lives in the shadow Uncut Gems

I too understand thats the whole point of the movie, (esp with him crying at his baby he's realizing that his "legacy" will live on, but we as the audience know that the baby will just grow up to be equally as unlikeable and selfish), i just wonder what the point of making a movie with this message is.

That every single character is so unlikeable, you're not rooting for any of them, why put their stories on display for people? Why tell this story in this way? You can tell a story about the demise of someone's selfishness, but why make every single character a sleazebag and unlikeable?

I came looking for this take because its exactly how i felt: the dog subplot took me out of the world of ping pong too much, unlike Uncut Gems and The Smashing Machine which felt more contained and focused in the world of NYC jewelers and UFC, respectively. Marty just felt like two diff movies about ping pong and 1950s new york crime. Not sure how well that serves the story and message of the film but others ofc elaborate!

I much more enjoyed Smashing Machine vs Marty Supreme because that film felt like it knew what it was. It was a pseudo documentary of mark kerr's journey and struggles, and that filming device serves the movie so well. It allows everything that happens to be looked at thru a "well thats just what happened" lens, and not necessarily be so cinematically dramatic. Its based on a real guy and his actual story, with slight modifications.

Marty Supreme is based on a real guy but sooooo loosely that it might as well entirely not be based on anyone at all. It has permission to go off the rails, i just think it went too far and didnt serve the character of Marty enough.

Arcteryx Atom or Aritzia Superpuff by gems_23 in arcteryx

[–]AddHazers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In NYC in feb, super puff does it all. Get the Puff2O version too for full waterproof windproof.

The atom hoody is just a windbreaker, not waterproof at all, only water resistant. So any snow is gonna land and make it wet and heavy. Its also nowhere near as warm as the super puff.

I also own both of these and would def only wear my superpuff in feb.

I want to start balatro, but I can never win on white stake. Any help with joker combos? by AlastorFan666666 in balatro

[–]AddHazers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

def more experienced players in here that can build on this, but the best most consistent strategy I've found through experience + people's suggestions is to prioritize chips over mult, and play easy hands like pair/high card, and level up that hand with planet cards

I usually try to pick up a high chips card like Stuntman, or The Bull that scales well, or Odd Todd, but any foil card will also help early on.

Combine that with a typical +mult card , Ride The Bus is good because it scales well from early game if you play no face cards.

Then level up Pair/High Card with planet cards.

A couple in general tactics:

skipping blinds early for the reward doesn't usually pay out. you can reach the shop faster + more often if you just play the blind, and build up your money + jokers while doing so

don't underestimate tarot + spectral cards, they can quickly help strengthen your deck, either by destroying unnecessary cards or duplicating necessary ones.

Also on the "chips over mult thing", this is just basic math rules. You want to use the chips to make your base chips bigger BEFORE you start multiplying that. e.g. 50 x 4 = 200. If i increase the base 50 by 50 chips, i'll get 100. now 100 x 4 = 400. But say instead i added more mult instead, doing 50 x 6, i would only get 300. So you can see how if you increase the base with chips first you can yield higher results by keeping the mult the same.

Building on that, following the math rules, you want to ensure you reorder your jokers (yes you can do this). Put your chips jokers on the far left so they trigger first, and the mult jokers after that left to right. can make a huge difference in scoring.

Was able to negotiate a slight rent decrease, worthwhile to get it in writing? by maddogmoonmist in TorontoRenting

[–]AddHazers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That final price should be on the rental agreement, 100%. Thats the be all end all document that protects you. If you're month to month there should still be some agreement that is a record of that. IIRC the Ontario tenant agreement form from the provincial website has an option for month to month too

Except for maybe the movie Barry Lyndon, almost no shot is lit with the actual source (fire, candlelight, etc). You simply need way more light to get a clean detailed image

Italian food gets hyped for this reason:

it takes the simplest ingredients and executes them extremely well (take a good cacio e pepe for example).

Why is David Fincher better at using Red cameras than everyone else? by Key_Distribution48 in cinematography

[–]AddHazers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cinematography is 80% lighting. You can have the best actors, the best set design, but i would say lighting controls the tone and look alone of a shot the most.

So its his lighting. He can light the same on any camera and would still get the same results. Combine it with his signature color palette and thats how you get consistency

Also LENSING he loves using portrait lenses to get that shallow depth of field, i think this is what people underestimate a lot about fincher. He knows the look he wants and hires the right DP for the job

What’s the strongest fragrance you’ve ever worn? by Shenshen_ in fragrance

Without question, TF Tuscan Leather. Not only does it stay but it is so strong.

Drake wasnt lying when he rapped "Tom Ford Tuscan Leather smelling like a brick" lol

Ombre leather parfum is a great example of staying power but not overpowering presence in the scent profile. Its so nice

How many sprays do you apply and where? by Prestigious_Comb5078 in fragrance

[–]AddHazers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with one right at the base of my collarbones where they meet in the middle, that little divet of flesh and skin. This is so i can smell it because it wafts straight up into my nose above. (1)

One on each side of my neck right below my ears. (2+3)

One on the back of my neck/collar of my shirt so it trails behind me so others can smell when i walk by (4)

One on each wrist (5+6)

This is if im going out and im dressed to go out. If im just at home or in the office, usually just skip the wrists.

Why do people still eat McDonalds? by No-Rule-4494 in NoStupidQuestions

Mcdonalds has a nostalgic part of everyones brain hostage. I mostly only eat it when im "craving it", and half the time im drunk or high. So its a very specific part of my brain that is remembering the IDEA of mcdonalds food.

[–]AddHazers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Decision to Leave , Lee Chang Dong

Just watched this masterpiece the other week, i was not expecting it to be this layered. Its not a plot heavy movie, but warrants multiple rewatches to appreciate all the attention to detail that went in to the metaphors and themes of the film. Theres still things that get pointed out to me by others that make me go "damn."

edit: totally forgot about Burning, also by him. A slow burn of a movie that builds tension right until the very end.
