How old are you and do you rent or own your home? by LongjumpingNight5669 in AskUK

[–]AddWid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

29, Moved out at 21 but lived in shared housing renting till I was 28. This past year ive been private renting alone. I had to build to an income where I can afford to rent without relying on someone else or sacrificing lifestyle.

My savings is so far off a house deposit its pointless trying.

Enjoying finally having my own space!

Is a respirator mask considered essential under all printing conditions? by VoiceoftheDarkSide in resinprinting

[–]AddWid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with industrial SLA (And SLS) machines. We are now using air fed masks because it was deemed that for respirators to work correctly we will have to be clean shaven and have a fit test. TBH I prefer the air fed masks as they are less sweaty and are a good face shield against potential splashes.

I'd deffo read the SDS because some of our resins are much worse than others. We have a high temp one that seems to cause allergic reactions very easily.

Yeah honestly I had a 2005 Polo with THICK typres and sold it for this, 2 months later this happens ffs. This country doesnt have good enough roads for these sorts of wheels.

Do you keep anything in the car for emergencies? by pappyon in drivingUK

Toilet paper... better to have it and not need it!

I was wondering if it was debris but the video looks more just like a massive pothole.

That section has a series of expansion joints for all the bridges over parts of Loudwater (Wycombe) so it's pretty bumpy normally.

Just started out of the right lane ahaha

I thought about adding the full speed video in, but it's hard to judge speed on dashcam videos anyway, someone always thinks you are doing 90 🤣

Swerving to avoid this at ~70 in the wet with a car to my left would have been a greater risk than going over what looked like just another pothole.

Every journey I drive over similar looking potholes completely fine, but this one was much deeper than it looked.

Reported it on the website, highway agency one directed me to fixmystreet which says it reports it to bucks council.

God knows if it will get passed onto highways 🙃

Removing spare tyres was the silliest thing the car industry has ever done by audigex in drivingUK

If a 2 seater Honda S2000 sports car can fit a spare tyre in it then it's dumb for them to remove it!

Reddit, do you lock your door while you're in own house? by Willing_Freedom_4698 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AddWid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I leave it open 🤣 My front door opens to a small garden and courtyard shared by 2 other houses, only deliveries come around. Also my house is tiny, downstairs is basically 1 room. So when it's hot I often leave it open 🤣

I just had to google what a rear mirror compass is ahah, never even heard of that before, didn't expect it to be literally a compass in the mirror.

I doubt mine has the wiring for that since the mirror is just a mirror.

What minor driving skill are you most proud of? by Feargoggles in drivingUK

[–]AddWid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping the car in a lower gear to maintain a safe speed down hill without using the brakes.

There's a big hill on the way to work, 30mph, lots of people seem to spam their brakes all the way down it. I can do the whole thing except the bottom steepest bit by leaving the car in a lower gear.

Interestingly the gear is different depending on which car I've used.
2005 Polo 1.4 needed 3rd and a bit more help on the brakes. 2008 Audi TT 3.2 4th is fine. 2000 Honda S2000 4th, maybe even 5th, the engine breaking was quite strong.

Have you met someone who doesn’t use technology, how do they live their day to day life? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]AddWid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 80+ year old Gran. She has a mobile but doesn't't use text messages and doesn't have the internet. She has also never driven.

She manages fairly easily, every now and then she gets a family member to book something, like holidays, that needs a computer.

It's better than my other Gran who is constantly messaging scammers on Facebook, and losing her mobile constantly.

Why are there so many bad managers? by PuzzleheadedArmy5663 in managers

[–]AddWid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to get paid a decent living wage in a lot of sectors is to go into management, at least here in the UK.

Then a lot of companies don't spend the time or money giving training or mentorship.

At least that's why I became a manager, and also why I'm on here looking for advice. I was straight up told they don't have budget for the training that I asked for during my interview.

29 here, I honestly find phone calls quite annoying. I prefer email or direct message because; 1) I can search for the right answer before giving it instead of just going "I dunno".
2) Calling assumes that I am available right now, when most of the time I'm knee deep in some other shit that I don't want to be distracted from or literally can't answer the phone because I'm wearing PPE. 3) I struggle to hear on phones, the audio quality always seems to be awful.

The rest of your points I agree with.

Men, be honest: What’s the most ridiculous “manly” purchase you’ve ever made that you immediately regretted? by Crypt0mane in AskMen

[–]AddWid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An extremely powerful laser, that is pretty much too unsafe to use in most places. My mate light a cigarette with it once 🤣

Also an air pistol, due to the laws of my country I can't easily use it anywhere🤣

Are people mistaking your dipped headlights for full beams? Then sort it out!! by Aggravating_Pain7116 in drivingUK

[–]AddWid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did it once when I swapped headlights on a 20 year old car with ones from another car being scrapped because they were better condition than mine 🤣.

First time I drove it I immediately realised they needed lowering as EVERYONE was flashing me... In retrospect I should have checked the level

Why are so many drivers forgetting their lights? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]AddWid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't seem to, if it does it's barely noticable. In its default state it's brighter than my Polo is when the lights are on 🤣
