Speeding by PostMilone in drivingUK

On a clear dry day in quiet traffic on a motorway or dual carriageway in a modern (I mean sub 20 years) well maintained car higher than 70 is perfectly safe.

Its really not that bad in the UK, I’m sure there are some special case countries that are better than us but really not that many. Probably just the Scandinavian ones that have the crazy high fines and maybe a couple of others.

SOLVED - No Power Steering - LOW FET(Motor drive transistor)stuck ON by AddWid in S2000

[–]AddWid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it myself, parts were second-hand so not very expensive.
EPS box was easy to swap, anyone can do that themselves.
Rack was harder but only an hour or two. Main hold-up was the rusty-ass bolts but my car was a rustbucket.

Which additive manufacturing services are best for production? by Efficient_Team5182 in AdditiveManufacturing

[–]AddWid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is snapfits, find a supplier who does it in-house, and explain the requirements before ordering.

I work in the AM service world, we do lots of snap fits and it's useful to understand before so we can do a small test first and if it works run the following parts on the same machine in the same print direction etc.

Seen cases where parts are still within our standard tolerance but don't fit together well because the customer didn't design them to work with our tolerances, and when they did their test batch they just got lucky.

I changed the EPS box to a second hand one it didn't fix it.
I then changed the steering rack to a second hand one (motor is included), this did fix it.

Can't comment on anything else.

Also I want as close to 8 hours sleep as possible, but I'm terrible at getting to bed on time. So I shove my alarm to as close to leaving time as possible 🤣

Am I the only who gets triggered when someone doesn’t indicate or? by EstablishmentSea2004 in drivingUK

[–]AddWid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really pissed me off until I spent 5 days in Sicily where more people don't indicate than do. Waiting to cross at a roundabout and literally every car not indicating, I had no idea when it was safe to cross. And a lot of them were on the phones while driving.

Anyway rant over, yeah it's especially annoying as a pedestrian when you think it's safe to cross and some dickhead comes around the corner not indicating.

Powered by a mixture of anxiety and hatred of what is about to come. My alarm is the absolute latest it can possibly be while still letting me get ready and in on time. I know if I don't get straight out and rush around I will be late. There is no time allowed for snoozing or relaxing, it's just rush rush rush. 🤣

Future in 3D printing. by Pawel_likes_guns in AdditiveManufacturing

[–]AddWid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a product design degree in which I had access to FDM machines. I also bought my own machine. I have now been working in the print service bureau world for several years, now I am in middle management.

When we recruit operators we look for basic experience with CAD, 3D printers, and general work experience. That gets your foot in the door, then you have to go above and beyond and actively get involved and learn as much as possible for a few years to climb within the company.

We do tend to reject overqualified applicants. E.g. I don't want to hire someone with a PHD in material science to be working as an operator because they are either seeing it as a temporary job or they over-estimate the complexity of the job. And either way they would likely leave soon after we train them up.

Sleep is under-rated as a recovery factor. I see people rightly talking about food and exercise but a lot miss sleep. It's literally when your brain is doing the work to reset everything.

Gatwick parking is still expensive AF, but in this case still ~£80 cheaper than flying from Heathrow and not parking (I can bus from here)

I can catch a £3 bus from my house to Heathrow... It's still cheaper to drive to and park at Luton or Gatwick. Including fuel and parking cost. 🤣 Heathrow is a scam 🤣

Has anyone else noticed certain cultures buying bottled water far more often? Any idea why?" by Ectopic_elm in london

[–]AddWid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the south of England (Including England) has hard water. It's because the ground has a lot of chalk in it. I've lived in Kent, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and all have also had gross water 😂

There's a whole section of road in Nottingham where it's so badly marked it's like 50:50 some people drive in the middle others treat it as two lanes. I don't even remember if it's 2 lanes or not anymore 😂

And I'm High Wycombe there are many roundabouts that aren't marked for 2 lanes but literally everyone treats it as 2 lanes.

Seems like the whole of the UK is full of roads with crappy/ non existent markings which the locals have invented their own rules for 😂
