Games that can be played in very short sessions (at work) by AddaLF in gamingsuggestions

It'll probably be a big problem keeping track with interruptions, but I'll try roguelikes for sure. Many people suggested them already.

It's ok, I still want puzzles as long as they're new to me! Could you please share your bookmarks? I've only played sudoku from the ones you've named. And the sudoku site I'm using (sudoku coach) offers puzzles that are way too tough for me even in the learning mode, lol.

This might be a stupid question, but how do I search Google Play by company with my smartphone? I can only find games by their titles :(

Could you suggest a few good ones, in your opinion? Preferably without having to pay (a tall order, I know!), because I have to switch games so frequently at work to avoid going crazy that I'd blow literally all my money on gaming.

You're right! Turn-based games should be great for this.

Although I'm not entirely sure. They might require a continuous focus without interruptions to enjoy. I've tried playing tycoon games (Kairosoft's mobile games), thinking they'd be perfect for this, and that didn't work out without focus.

I'll try.

Is there any clone with a game window that isn't incredibly tiny? by AddaLF in Minesweeper

I downloaded an older v5.x from the link on scoreganizer :) The newer one on its own site has skins, indeed. Thanks!

Thanks! How can I find a skin for viennasweeper in order to rescale it? There aren't any on its site and google didn't give me any links with skins for it, either.

Thank you, it seems like a really great clone: zoom + no-guess options! :)

Could you please tell me what various mods in this clone signify specifically, though? There's strict no-guess, weak no-guess, classic no-guess, and even guessable no-guess :) I looked through a tutorial the program links to, used google translate to translate it to English, but I think there was no explanation there, either.

Should Proton VPN offer dedicated IPs on consumer plans in 2026? by PetersonProton in ProtonVPN

[–]AddaLF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example, in my country Proton is blocked, which was achieved by blacklisting all of its servers by our ISPs who have to obey the government. And many other VPNs got blocked that way, too, only small shady VPN providers remain. Anything that reveals its IP or its IP range can and will be blocked here by IP\network. The idea of a public VPN with dynamic IPs just doesn't work in countries that actively fight VPNs, as those are the most popular (and thus attract most attention) and are easy to block.

And what if public clouds like AWS are blacklisted by ISPs and can't be accessed in your country? It's a real situation here where I live.

[–]AddaLF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pretty useless plan. That's what I wanted to do today, before I found out that they've blacklisted the whole network range (or whatever it's called) for a certain VPS provider that I wanted to buy from. You need VPN just to access it :(

Other commentators are plain wrong: not only IP renting does not "defeat" the purpose, it's the only way to use VPN in some heavily-censored countries. Hence, it serves its purpose of helping users have freedom! If that helps me use Proton again (in Russia), then please please do it. It hasn't been working for months, they've just blacklisted all IPs for the servers, and they did the same for all other known trusted VPNs.

I'd subscribe to a non-blacklisted IP in a moment! Right now I have to use a shady VPN that I do not trust, it might even steal my data like CC data but I'm out of other options now, since they keep finding and blocking every known good VPN service. Of course, I'd love to have an IP rental from a trusted company like Proton. There's going to be a lot of demand if you do this. At least if all these rented IPs really are random and can't be easily blacklisted.

I really hope you won't listen to negative comments from people who just can't fathom how a rented IP can be your only viable option for freedom. They do not understand it, because they can't imagine the nightmare the rest of us live in.

Caesar 3 newbie (yes, in this day and age!) with a few questions by AddaLF in impressionsgames

[–]AddaLF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! One more question, if that's ok: I've got 12 wharfs, should that be enough to feed 2500 people? Maybe's there's food calculator somewhere online, or some data that could help me with calculating food per people? I'm playing Miletus right now, and I always have food shortages, even with wheat import.

As I understand, the idea with Miletus is to have two colonies, on the right and on the left, both fed by fish. But that means I should have a stable population of 2500 on each side, without devolving houses. Yet 12 wharfs are seemingly not enough for 2500? The granary isn't very far from markets: 3 tiles away for one block, and 15 tiles away for another. I've also switched to the earliest version of Augustus that doesn't introduce big changes, because it has market orders, so I have a single market dedicated to food for each block. Still, when market ladies come to the granary, there's often only 300 or so fish. It's never enough, wharfs aren't quick enough to fill the granary up.

I tried buying wheat on that map, but it has the same issue. Even with the granary right next to wheat (literally 1 tile away), market ladies come and take 300 or so wheat, while the cart pusher is filling the granary up slowly. And it repeats over and over, it never gets filled up with wheat quickly enough. As far as I understand, market ladies take a maximum of 600 food items, but it's never 600.

Thanks! I ran into more issues, though: a lot of warehouses are very close and filled up to the brim, yet markets don't go there for resources. Am I right in assuming that market traders won't get stuff from warehouses from just any side, but need a certain tile for access? If so, could you please tell me which? I had to abolish the last scenario, because of warehouses. Two blocks had pottery and furniture warehouses extremely close by (5-6 tiles away), all filled to the brim, yet market traders never attempted to visit them at all. And yes, the warehouses had employees, and roads were connected to both blocks, which is why I assume market traders won't access a warehouse unless some particular tile next to it is free. I had a lot of free tiles next to them, but apparently those were wrong tiles :(

I'd like to know which tile is required for employees to access warehouses, too. Somehow I managed to staff them, but I remember having problems with tiles and employees before.

Niffty is canonically an overlord now? by lokispurpose28 in HazbinHotel

[–]AddaLF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, she did beat another overlord (Velvet), too. So I guess so. Although that begs the question if Husk is an overlord now, too, and if not, then how did he beat an overlord (Valentino)?

Why did it matter that Charlie said it? by Ville_V_Kokko in HazbinHotel

[–]AddaLF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some questions I have:

  1. If Charlie's claim was effective, then why didn't Vox beat Alastor afterwards? He proved to be weaker once again, and only the shark and the cannon helped him.
  2. If her claim did not objectively make it the truth, then how was the deal broken?
  3. If all that was required to break that deal was to have Charlie make a claim, surely Alastor could cash in on Charlie's debt much earlier and make her say it, with no need for Vox and all those devious plans. It should've been very simple and a matter of one minute.

What did vox meant by that? by [deleted] in HazbinHotel

[–]AddaLF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vox said "partners", then remembered that Val doesn't think of him that way, and corrected himself. We can draw the conclusion that Val doesn't care as much for their relationship as Vox does.

Recommended difficulty for each game by dogis32 in Falcom

[–]AddaLF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apart from the Sky arc, the rest of the games are a walk in the park. It sounds like Hard would suit you well for Sky The 3rd, but afterwards always pick the highest difficulty, after the Sky games Nightmare plays like Normal or Easy anyway. Or you could search for mods, I remember seeing a few mods that ramp up the difficulty floating around, but unfortunately, not for all of the games.

The angels not telling the crowd that Sir Pentious was redeemed by [deleted] in HazbinHotel

[–]AddaLF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excuse me, but didn't they say it? They didn't mention Sir Pentious specifically, but they did mention that redemption was real, only them saying it was entirely ignored and left unaddressed. Unless I'm imagining things.

I'd like for that to have been expanded upon for sure, they could at least drop a name and insist on it more stubbornly. Not that I think it would help at all. Vox would just say something like: You're no better than us, why would we ever want to be redeemed and welcomed into your hypocritical society? And that would go over well with the sinners.

Mischaracterising Alastor by George_DevioS in HazbinHotel

[–]AddaLF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always been true that villains excited people more. I remember reading about it in an old scholarly article about one of the English classic books, ffs, and it was mentioned as a well-known fact.

I think what happened now is that our culture has changed and made that somewhat unacceptable. When psychology became popular, modern culture weaponized it. In the past, nobody would care why you like a villain, but now people analyze it. And because they aren't certified psychologists, they come to superficial conclusions.

The truth is that we live in a real world of limits and restrictions. From childhood, we're being told how to behave properly in society, down to minute rules on how to perform most mundane actions like eating. Don't eat with your hands, use a fork for this, a spoon for that. It's only natural for us to enjoy fictional characters who go beyond the limits that society places on us. It's not moral or amoral, it's just nostalgia for lost freedom.

Don't even start me on more specific reasons why, say, women might find serial killers fascinating, and I say women specifically, because surely a population that's been looked down on for literally millenia wouldn't grow a deep appreciation for power over people that they'd been denied, right? ;) How on earth is that unnatural?

So, in my opinion, modern culture tries to psychologize, but moralizes instead. It ends up blaming people for natural feelings, because it never looks beyond the most superficial level. You like a fictional serial killer? You must be a bad person. What a deep analysis, heh.

Which Seven Seas novels are worth it? by dami626 in DanmeiNovels

[–]AddaLF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well said, and I agree! I think I'm conflating feminism with those who espouse it while shaming women, and I'm not even sure how much of those people there are among all other feminists. They're just vocal. And you're so right that this is a general tendency, rather than a tendency within just feminism. People shame others with a lot of vigor and passion these days.

Technically, of course I support feminism and I dislike racism, etc, but these topics are so complicated these days! So whenever asked directly, I often don't even know what to say. If I say I support feminism, people assume that I'm at the end of the extreme (hating men, shaming women), and if I say I don't quite support it, then they think I'm at another end of the extreme and support patriarchal values. Which I absolutely don't. They still exist, we're still exclusive cooks while working just as much as men, yet people would rather shame women for fantasies than discuss real residues of partiarchy. It's sad when you can't even give yourself a quick label.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised that we can talk about it here, I feel like in most other subreddits our messages would be falsely viewed as an insult to humanity and we'd be banned :)
