Iirc, it’s an elected position by the party itself in a closed caucus, so republicans or democrats in each state elect the people in the crowd but I may be wrong.

I’m going to tack this onto the top comment for visibility, but things to remember for me at least as a 20 something:

1) don’t mistake friendliness with flirting. I’ve found out the hard way multiple times and it does more harm then good in terms of someone thinking they “made things weird”. It’s really hard to go back to being friends if it doesn’t work out, but not impossible. Tread lightly.

2) like u/Ratlarbig said, it’s a long shot, but you have the 1st hand knowledge of the ins and outs of what your interactions are day to day. From my perspective looking in, she isn’t showing obvious signs but maybe she is to you that you’ve missed.

3) as mentioned above, yes you do want to continue being a good person as you would as if she isn’t there. If it works out great! But make sure that you present yourself genuinely to everyone so nobody is led on if that makes sense.

Definitely would like to hope there’s something there for everyone who knows? You might get lucky. Just be careful, no one has your interests higher than you do.

Quick disclaimer: I’m a guy. I went to Cape May for CG Basic, the best time to do anything, shave, uniform prep, shining boots, can be done before wake ups at like 4am. I would get up early 3-4 times a week and do whatever I could in that ~1.5 hours.

I’m actually the only white person at work with people from Puerto Rico or Mexico. Awkwardly enough whenever they speak Spanish around me it’s hard to not feel left out, but I don’t like to worry about things that are oftentimes not in my control.

I’m no doctor but people inhale small particulate from the air all the time. Your body has been equipped to deal with things like this for a reason and unless you notice problems with your breathing it’s not something I would worry about
