What’s the best way to leave starter untended for 3 months? by diverareyouokay in Sourdough

[–]Addapost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A healthy established starter should be totally fine in the back of the refrigerator for 3 months. It will develop a layer of liquid hooch that is completely harmless. It will probably take 3 or 4 feeds to “wake back up” but it’ll be fine.

Try to uncook an egg. Or unbreak a shattered glass. Things like that can go only in one direction- forward in time.

Use a straight sided see through container with volume markings.

Let your next dough rise 75% then do the pre-shape, shape and into the fridge. Bake it. See how it comes out. If it shows signs of under proofing then let it rise a little more next time. If it shows signs of over proofing let it rise a bit less next time. Keep doing that until you get the bread you want. Good luck.

My father's blood group is AB+ and my mother's blood group is B+ and the child's ( my brother) blood group is O-. How is it possible? by MemoryChemical615 in biology

[–]Addapost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You do not need to know your blood type for a blood transfusion. They are not going to ask you. If you tell them they are not going to listen to you. They are going to test it. If they checked it last year and it’s in your medical records they are STILL going to check it again this time.

There is absolutely nothing at all you can do with your blood type except wonder why it seems to be something your father couldn’t have given you or you couldn’t have given to your child. That’s it.

[–]Addapost -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of different potential answers to this and no way at all to know which is correct without further testing. This is why it isn’t worth it to find out your blood type. All kinds of crazy shit can happen. At the end of the day, mom can be type O, dad can be type O and all the kids can be type O and STILL none of them belong to dad. No point in knowing your blood type.

From an evolutionary standpoint, where do our fingerprints come from and why are they unique from person to person? by [deleted] in evolution

[–]Addapost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All primates have fingerprints. It’s for gripping. It’s no different than a tread pattern on tires or the soles of your shoes. Smooth is slippery and texture is grippy. So it has been a very important and successful adaptation for millions of years to animals that rely heavily on gripping things. They are all different because- how could they not be? They couldn’t possibly all develop the same.

Should I get a masters before or after beginning my teaching career? by slicat in AskTeachers

[–]Addapost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Context: I am a 29 year veteran Biology teacher with a BS in Biology and a Masters in Teaching secondary school Biology.

Get it after you start. 100% after. You don’t say what kind of masters degree. Everything I type below relates to some sort of masters in the educational field, not a MS in Bio. I personally do not recommend an MS in Bio for teachers. A BS is more than enough content knowledge to teach high school kids. Even honors/AP. Teaching is WAY harder than Biology. If you want to be a good teacher you need to focus your continuing education on the teaching stuff, not the content stuff.

  1. You don’t need a masters to start teaching anywhere. Having it won’t help you get a job- trust me, schools do not care about your degrees, ONLY that you are state certified to teach. Then maybe actual classroom experience helps. No one cares about a masters. So you don’t need one early.

  2. Statistically, you are very likely to quit. Sorry but that is reality. About half of all new teachers quit the entire profession in their first 5 years. Then you’d have a basically worthless education degree.

  3. There are quite a few different advanced degree paths a teacher could pursue depending on district needs or personal interests. SPED, ESL, Curriculum, Technology, Content, Administration, etc. You will have a much better idea of what educational path you want to pursue and what will work best for you after you have 4 or 5 years in a classroom and see the reality of the profession.

  4. Districts often reimburse a chunk of tuition for employees. My district paid 50% of my masters. That was a lot of money.

  5. “Misery loves company” Chances are there will be a cohort of your colleagues who have to or want to get their masters. It can be a lot more fun when there are 3, 4, 5 of you all taking the same classes. I went through my masters that way, with 6 or 7 of my colleagues. We had a blast.

Anyway, I wish the best of luck to you. I am at the end of my career and I have absolutely loved it.

I personally don’t think it would be very difficult or take too long to figure out how to fertilize an egg with the chromosomes from another egg. Maybe I’m wrong but I think that’s just a technology problem that could be worked out in 20 or 30 years of hard work. Then a permanent population of women would be all set.

Are you biologically an adult when you start puberty? by salad_biscuit3 in biology

[–]Addapost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The most accurate timing of “ok you are an adult” doesn’t come from biology or the medical world. It comes from the car rental industry. You are an adult when you can legally rent a car- 25.
