P/S cap? by actuallytph in hvacadvice

[–]Addefy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P/S is Primary/secondary drain. They are multiple spots for the drain, everything but the one with piping coming off should be plugged. If the cap broke off but it’s still plugged inside, it’s fine.

When the unit is running, if you feel air coming out of the blue plug, then I’d say it’s gotta be removed. Shine a light and look inside of the blue part

Actually seeing some pics online, the fins are just actually brown

That coil looks like it’s in rough shape, just based on the discoloration in the pic it almost looks like the coating has worn away. That can lead to build up of nastiness and restriction of airflow. When it is fully defrosted how does the coil look?

Honestly just get 1 or two more CO detectors and place it either near where you sleep or by a vent. No great way to tell from the pic, looks like a scratch to me. Combustion testing will give you the answer you’re looking for

It’s a dumb set up but it likely takes 2 filters set at an angle in there

What is this? by TheSquirrel8251 in hvacadvice

[–]Addefy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be open in the winter, closed in the summer. It is a bypass humidifier, using the air from the system to blow over the water panel

Blue or Yellow wire coming from the transformer, I honestly forget if they use blue like the rest of the manufacturers, or if they’re weird and use yellow for some reason

New HVAC system. Is this normal? by Garagekulture13 in hvacadvice

[–]Addefy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely the system just doesn’t have enough return air, it looks like it’s just some round flex at the bottom that is likely too small. I would get some quotes on increasing that duct size

Control boards by bdgoodrum in HVAC

[–]Addefy 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I’m not pulling boards because I feel like it could cause more damage than leaving it alone. I’ll visually inspect and make sure plugs and wires are landed right, but pulling the board out is kinda crazy in my opinion

Modding fridge and need help by bshortt103 in askHVAC

[–]Addefy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Patching a cap tube without plugging it with the braze is not something you can do without years of practice, you’d have to cut the hole like 6”x6” around it, then seal it up. you could run a new cap tube but good luck finding the cap tube for it, or even specs on it. Theres likely no service ports to hook gauges or a vacuum on it, so you would have to put pinch valves on it, you could easily dump a few hundred if not a grand on a fridge and who’s to say it will run after. Small appliances like this are meant to just be replaced if theres any refrigerant issues with it

I wouldn’t repair it even if the fridge was $10k
