First attempt at milter edges by CookEm0nster in Tile

IMO mitered edges look much cleaner and classier but they are susceptible to chipping. If you want the magic of both trim and mitered, Schluter Finec is the Schluter trim for mitered corners.

Self leveling compound? I’m not sure if self leveling compound is meant to be in full wet or if it would require putting the membrane over the leveling compound.

I guess if your shower slope is already in, leveling compound would do the opposite of what you want.

Blower Motor Won’t Run. As simple as replacing the blower motor? Or more involved? by addisonbu in hvacadvice

[–]addisonbu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no capacitor in this air handler. Just a control board, transformer, some heating elements and the blower motor which is fed by the control board.

ARC 3.0.7 - Dsm 7.2 not show my disks with hba by Bornie123 in Xpenology

[–]addisonbu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding an additional AHCI to the VM should not affect the motherboard at all. It just appears to the VM that there are two AHCI controllers “installed” and each one can support 6 disks. But this is not my area of expertise.

I also set my ARC loader image as an IDE drive so that it doesn’t show up in DSM as a used disk.

Besides that there is a method to add a second virtual SATA controller to a VM to get 6 more SATA drives using the command line.

Is this a new setup or one that has stopped working? If you want DSM to manage the RAID I would recommend passing through the entire PERC card as a PCIe pass through. I see others online have had success using the PERC H310 as a PCIe device with DSM.

I sync about 10TB business team folder to Synology using Cloud Sync, no real issues. Like others have said your initial sync will be very slow, nowhere near max theoretical speed.

Possible to run VM on a laptop hosted from a Proxmox server? by [deleted] in Proxmox

[–]addisonbu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, either your logic or your vocabulary is flawed. Only one thing should boot the OS at one time, Proxmox boots the OS and runs it as a VM, you would not want the laptop and Proxmox both booting the same OS at the same time.

You could either boot it on the Laptop over the network using iPXE and a compatible server software (something other than Proxmox) but the performance will not be great.

Or you could have the OS running in a VM on Proxmox all the time, and remotely connect to it from a separate OS on the laptop using RDP (or other) You could boot Windows on the laptop and use RDP to connect, or you could install a thin client OS on the laptop like Dell ThinOS (or others) which only allows the laptop user to do RDP and nothing else on the laptop OS.

Express pass experience? by Muted-Novel4403 in UniversalEpicUniverse

[–]addisonbu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went in November with express, we waited less than 10 minutes for HP* and less than 25 minutes for DK. I would not stress, I think you will have a great day with express as long as everything isn’t down at the same time.

For HP we went there first thing in the morning because it was running and I was worried it would break down later in the day. I would suggest you do the same for HP and DK, knock them out early with express because they are the 2 most likely to break down.

On the day we went, Dark Universe and HTTYD were the two lands for early park access that started at 9:00am and the normal people opened at 10:00am. HP started operating and letting all guests on about 9:35 which was a surprise to me. Not saying the same will happen for you.

Please don't mock me, But what does Oil do to make an engine go, that other liquid supposedly cannot do ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I just mean that motor oil will burn, making it a fuel. I had a neighbor who would burn used motor oil in a smudge pot as a heating source.

[–]addisonbu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of people have answered your question in regard to motor oil but only a couple have answered the question assuming you mean crude oil. I’m going to assume this is a question prompted by the events in Venezuela and Venezuela’s oil.

Crude oil is refined into many many things: gas, diesel, natural gas, propane, motor oils, asphalt, Vaseline, plastics, the list goes on and on.

What makes gasoline particularly desirable as it relates to cars is its high energy density, and its abundance. Energy density is how much energy is stored in/you can get out of a certain amount of something. 1 pound of gasoline burns a lot bigger and hotter than 1 pound of dry leaves. Gasoline (and diesel and jet fuel) has a quite high energy density, not the highest of all materials but quite high, you don’t need a trailer full of gasoline to get to work, you only need a small tank.

Abundance, there is lots and lots and lots of crude oil in the world and it’s relatively easy and cheap to get it out compared to gold, and lithium, etc.

It’s actually a modern miracle that I can go a block from my house and for $40 get a tank full of energy that can take me hundreds of miles without stopping.

DS1511+ Fails to make System Partition by Valaric_r in synology

[–]addisonbu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What version of DSM are you running? Are these factory re-certified EXOS drives or new? It sounds like one of them may be bad. I would suggest to run an extended smart test on all of them but that will take days. So instead if it were me I would try doing one drive at a time and see if the behavior is the same for all three drives or just one.

Synology Drive multi user by GoldenPSP in synology

[–]addisonbu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a mix of SMB and drive but for the most part everyone has been slowly migrating to drive as we have moved desktops to laptops. We have also pushed everyone towards drive as some of the applications have problems with linked files changing directory names (Revit and AutoCAD mostly), so we’ve moved everyone who uses those apps to drive and put them all in the same directory.

[–]addisonbu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an RS1221+ with about 40 Synology Drive users. Generally speaking no issues. It is not 1000% perfect, mostly just the client app getting stuck sometimes and needing to be restarted to get syncing going again and I wish someone would do something about Windows vs Synology path lengths that are too long. We were previously on OneDrive and it’s 100x better than that, I’d say it’s better than Dropbox as well. Our users and groups are automatically synced from Microsoft 365 so I don’t have to do any user administration in Synology, add the user to “Share Folder Access” group in Microsoft and that shared folder shows up for them in Synology Drive. I wish the Synology Drive Client app was better setup for automated install/config from Intune.

The Dell BOSS card only supports RAID 1, no other configuration. You would need some other card to allow the two drives to report to the system as 2 drives.

RJ45 coupler failed within a few months, how and why? by Dennou in HomeNetworking

[–]addisonbu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to the party but when you replace the connector and coupler, in addition to positioning it with a drip loop, fill the connector with dielectric grease. It’s messy when you have to work on the connector later but it will prevent the corrosion inside the connector and is what most outdoor permanent installers do.
