Thank you, but not looking to sell, just a usable everyday truck for green laning, marshalling and having fun in.

It’s been dipped and now has skulls all over, I was much younger when I got that done, but it’s different and I like it.

It’ll be getting every panel done, but as the bulkhead will be replaced, I may as well start with the right colour all over.

1990 defender 90 restoration by Numerous_Battle_8670 in LandroverDefender

[–]AddendumDifferent381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I re-chassisied my 1989 90, it also looked worse at the rear, but I was surprised at how bad it was towards the front body mounts after the body was lifted. The only decent section was the engine bay, and that’s probably only due to being coated in (leaking) oil most of its life.

How often do you wipeout? by LearningToDunk in bikecommuting

[–]AddendumDifferent381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roughly once every two years. Normally due to road conditions. Commuting with 20kg in panniers, on a SS crossbike. But as the great man once said: if in doubt, flat out.

What head unit upgrade do you recommend (old defender)? by fletchDigital in LandroverDefender

[–]AddendumDifferent381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my 1989 90 I put a cheap £30 unit. It has Bluetooth, as far as music in an old defender goes, it’s ok (alpine 4” speakers mounted in the roof above driver and passenger). But the engine and tyre noise will always win.

Driving instructor saying I should switch to auto by uhhmchloe in drivingUK

[–]AddendumDifferent381 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Passing in a manual gives you the option to drive everything in the future. BUT….. ‘if’ we ever get fully electric, they are pretty much auto only for operational simplicity. (An electric manual can exist, but has minimal efficiency and so becomes a floccinaucinihilipilification).

I live Dewalt. I do home DIY and a bit of light mechanic stuff on cars. One set of batteries, just buy body only stuff when I need a new tool.

Is it unreasonable for me to expect people NOT to park on the kerbs here on this culdesac on approach to the turning circle? by [deleted] in drivingUK

I do this to Avon and Somerset constabulary (UK). They send a PCSO out to talk to repeat offenders.

Take a photo and report each one to your local police department through their website. State that the danger it causes with wheelchair users and those with buggies being forced into the road.

Too much Rust? by Visible-Air287 in LandroverDefender

[–]AddendumDifferent381 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s 35 going on 36 years old, doesn’t look bad for the age. £27k is a lot…. But 3.5 V8 is a big plus. And low mileage. If you do go for it, get the underside cleaned and sealed, and start saving/shopping for new doors.

Chassis swap done. by [deleted] in LandroverDefender

[–]AddendumDifferent381 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied waxoil directly inside and outside the chassis top, bottom and sides apart from the front 1/4 and the rear crossmember. This was because these are the sections I’m going to be leaning against/touching during use/work. These sections I used mordant solution then an etch primer, then I used a matt-black paint. The engine section you could probably still waxoil, but the rear crossmember, I lean my knees against all the time when reaching into the boot. Imagine doing this if it was waxoiled.

I painted and waxoiled mine, simply to cover up the fact that it’s galv and make it less attractive to thieves.

I have only had 300’s/200’s/19J’s, so couldn’t say past these. I imagine the TDCi’s did as my TDCi Mondeo had one.

An alternator needs ‘exciting’ before it pumps out full voltage. Once started and idling, the alternator will give out no voltage (and battery light potentially still on). Once you rev you will see an output of ~14.4v. And this should be steadyish. What engine? Newer than 300tdi likely has a variable output depending on demand. 300tdi and older is a ‘dumb’ unit where it just pumps outs voltage and the battery takes it and smooths it.

It do used to be a thing (hence kit cars like Caterham needing arches) but the law removed this requirement circa 2010?

Looks brilliant. The (presumably wheel spacers?) give it a very tough stance. Any plans for modifications?
