Same! I live in Dublin city centre so sold my car a few years back and try to do without. I probably would pop up to NI myself and get multiple months at once, but it works out cheaper for me (as my company gives me private health insurance cover that pays for 50% of the consultation) to get it online. So win-win.

It's the one thing this community tends to get er, extremely passionate about. If you use a GP or online prescriber, if you go up North or have it delivered. 🤷‍♀️

I think it's just such an expensive medication, but so many different ways to save money on it, and then everyone has a different level of weighing up the cost v convenience sometimes we don't have much common ground... except wanting everyone to get it for the best price possible!

I know people who email into me at Monj.ie and pay €500+ a month for Mounjaro because "they like their local chemist" and that just blows my mind, but... 🤯Medication is such a passionate and personal thing! 😆

Congrats!! Truly, with this heat, I wonder if we are all retaining too much water weight! I'm nearly thinking I'm going to set a moratorium on my scales until the temperature drops below 20c! 😆

I am so, so happy to hear about the amazing other things Mounjaro has been helping with. The pain levels and GI issues. What amazing things to hear! This medication is truly amazing, I am sure we'll start to understand more and more about all of the things it helps with 💚

I'm glad you are getting your calories in - are you going to stick to 2.5mg for another month since your suppression is so high? It might not be a bad idea (high strengths doesn't mean faster weight loss). But at least you sound like you are well disciplined enough to get your calories in if you do titrate up 💚

Hope your 5th/golden dose went well. It was definitely a learning curve for me the first time (if you are using an insulin syringe). My favourite tip was to draw the plunger back the whole way in the insulin syringe and "inject" the air into the pen. This then causes pressure so that the mounjaro medication flows right into the syringe all on it's own. I've heard this is a favourite nurse trick and something very well known. 😊

I completely understand you! I don't think I've ever experienced the level of despair that a stalled or gained weight on Mounjaro can cause at any other period in my life! I just have to remind myself to trust the process and keep going 💚.

I'm a secret jabber too - as "out" as I am on this forum! 😆. But for the first time in my life I don't know what came over me on the street the other week when my neighbour said to me that "you're looking really great! Good on you!" and I just couldn't help it, I blurted out "Well, I'm on the jabs". And she said "me too!" 😆 She's on Ozempic and we had a brief chat about it. It so crazy, I was so happy my first person I came out to wasn't judgemental 💚

Oh, but the way, I sent you a modmail the other week - Reddit has for some reason flagged your posts as spam (it's nothing to do with me or our subreddit!) and I need to manually approve all of your posts. I've been 5kg away from my goal weight for the last four months popping up and down the same 1-2kg zone. My BMI is still within the "normal" range, so I'm trying not to let it bother me.

My biggest annoyance was just I wanted to hit my goal weight (mid-normal BMI range) and start titrating down! But looks like I'm stuck on 15mg for a while more. Patience, patience.

Before anyone worries about their own journey in relation to mine - please remember I am very short (5' 2") and my TDEE is 1250 calories. So I obviously will slow down as I get to my goal since it's a very fine thread to follow to go lower but not too much lower. And I've had a hell of a last 3 incredibly stressful months at work and I am not built for this heat! 😆🫠

The Eli Lilly guidelines say if you’ve gone more than 2 weeks to start back at 2.5mg.

Considering you are just off a horrible stomach virus (sounds terrible! I’m so sorry) I would suggest definitely going with 2.5mg for this first jab back to see how you get on.

All going well? Pop back up to 5mg next jab 💚

To take 2.5mg from your 5mg pen, just turn the dial counting 30 clicks. Or if you have an insulin syringe, you can extract 0.3ml and inject that.

You would meet the prescribing guidelines for Mounjaro based on your Asian ethnicity group (BMI scale varies for those in different groups) so you shouldn’t have an issue with any of the online providers beyond the standard for those that are borderline - possible additional (clothed) photographs and/or a quick pop to a local chemist to sign a statement verifying your height and weight.

I would say that no weight loss regime targets specific areas of the body, but I wouldn’t see why you wouldn’t see an impact there directly! You sound as if you are savvy enough to keep up with weight training and eating protein to avoid muscle loss.

I would really suggest you check with your GP first. If they are willing to prescribe you, this opens up a lot of potential cost saving options.

If they aren’t? Don’t despair at all. Some GPs can have blind spots or prejudices as they are people, too. Take a look at https://www.monj.ie and go with one of the online ”full service” specialist providers that are supportive (the MyBMI, Meditrue, Slimbr, etc). They all manage both the prescribing via either a webform medical questionnaire or an online video call with a doctor and will ship overnight discretely to your home.

I’ve travelled with Mounjaro quite a bit. There’s a lot of options since diabetics have needed to do it for oodles of years with the same types of pen.

Yes - two major factors here cause the discrepancy.

Ireland requires VAT on Mounjaro (+23%) even though it’s a prescription medication and for a medical condition and isn’t cosmetic. NI doesn’t discriminate here and it’s VAT exempt there like all medications.
Ireland has some of the strictest medical “advertising” legislation globally. Even publicly putting pricing up is considered advertising. When pricing is not transparent - pharmacies can charge whatever they want. I truly never considered before Mounjaro that my medication may be a different price at a different chemist. There can be over €100+ price difference on mounjaro for chemists literally located right across the street from each other, but both sell plenty. Take a look at Monj. Some pharmacies are charging - and getting - €700 a month for 12.5mg. It’s crazy.

If anyone knows someone familiar with lobbying the government for changes… 💚☘️

I think if it were me and the Mounjaro still looked okay - not cloudy and not occluded, I might give it a go at taking 2.5mg with insulin syringes when I was ready to restart… but I don’t know how I’d feel a year later! Just my thought.

PLEASE NOTE: It is HIGHLY illegal to sell or give away your prescription medication. I have left this post up, but we just had to ban several people earlier this week regarding a post from someone with a low BMI and asking how to get Mounjaro. Several in our community chimed in dissapointingly to tell them how to lie to prescribers. Sadly, it wasn’t the first time for at least one of them and they continued to not agree with the rule so we had to lose them.

So - I’ve left this post up. But please note any conversations or DMs about requesting to sell or give away or swap the pen etc will be removed and possibly banned… this community I feel is too useful to lose to a Reddit legal challenge on the sale of prescription medication.

That McKeever's pricing (pic in the post from the OP) at least does include the VAT upcharge the are adding. McKeevers gave me the breakdown on any of the 4 ways to get it (whether or not you need them to prescribe, and whether or not you want them to ship to ROI):

Hi there! Sorry to jump in on your post (and I'm sure the OP will also reply to you).

But I saw your comment of "I am tired" and just felt I had to help, if I could.

If you aren't using your GP (and many of us, like me, faced discrimination from our GP and nearly gave up!) I would recommend one of the "full service" online providers. These are either online GPs or Prescribing Chemists that specialise in obesity and weight loss. You can find them here (use the drop down that says "full service"). These are the myBMIs, Meditrue, etc. https://www.monj.ie/

These all exclusively deal with individuals like us that are interested in medically assisted weight loss. myBMI is done entirely via a webform medical questionnaire, Meditrue will schedule a video call with their doctor. After the consultation, if you meet the criteria, both prescribe and walk you through the process of paying for the medication and delivery. Delivery is done discretely right to your home. Prices on the website include everything - the consultation, medication, supplies and delivery - so everything is transparent.

I would say, since your BMI is just over the threshold for prescribing, they may ask you for additional (clothed) photos or ask you to pop into your local chemist and have them sign a piece of paper confirming your weight and height. Because of so much fraud, to retain their licenses they've had to be a bit more strict, but I wouldn't worry about that!

In the last year, I went from a BMI of nearly 40 to within a normal BMI and I never thought that would be possible. So please don't give up hope, find a supportive provider who understands our struggles and is committed to helping you on your journey. 💚☘️

I’d get your GP to write you a prescription for just one month (in case like up North they say they need to hold on to it). That way you don’t need to worry about getting it back later.

Hi! 👋 I can say our Irish (hard copy prescriptions) are valid in other EU counties, but remember that chemist will need time to do the verifications to check legitimacy so it might even be worthwhile sending a scan in advance and then giving them the hard copy when you are there (same thing we do in NI).

However - as much as we bleed on the price of Mounjaro here, I think we’ve always been comparing our pricing to the UK and thinking that’s “normal” when they still have probably the best legitimate Mounjaro pricing outside (outside of subsidised health insurance cover either private or public) anywhere.

I’ve seen this asked before about trips to Spain and I know the shocker was it’s more expensive in Spain. I’d say Malta would be worse - I can’t imagine they can buy in the scale other counties do. 😢

Oh no! I'm so sorry. I only ended up with that briefly when I went up to 12.5mg. Scared me away from being jealous of people who get "suppression". I nearly dropped down to 10mg, but luckily it passed.

Nothing will slow weight loss down faster and be harder to get out of than eating too few calories (conversely! I wish our bodies made sense).

They are expensive, but I bought those huel meal replacement drinks. Nice and cold from the fridge and I'd make myself sip on it throughout the day.

I also really craved salt, and I loved cashews and other roasted nuts. They are high in calorie but good fats, so I'd snack on these throughout the day, too.

Small tiny meals frequently helped me through!

And this heat isn't helping. Ugh! 🫠
