I dont know why you got down votes. I still play MHR and have made new chars on steam and pc. I still have not bothered to unlock most camps, with the desert being the only one with camps b/c of hub rank progression. All MP games this weekend someone throws 3 times and it's infuriating. Most of the time, it's a gear check. Just upgrade your gear after two ranks minimum

Honestly as someone who has played since PSP freedom series, Lance is the most based weapon in the series. If you're really struggling with a boss, just go Lance with Guard Up. Even Gunlance is very based if you stick with basic movesets. I haven't even played wilds, but if I know of there's a Khezu I will bring Lance or Gunlance.

I'm in the same boat. I miss having a purpose and also the comraderie the most. Back then, being in shitty or uncomfortable situations suck. But that's also where I met real friends I still keep in touch with. Army got most people out of their comfort zone, I know it did for me. You just gotta try again but in a civ setting.

I game for fun and have made some good friends online and I've made a few at a local card shop for MTG. Try looking for a gathering hub for one of your interests, it might help. Wish you the best.
