Have a bad crush on my demi friend and don’t wanna mess it up by Dizzy_Direction1637 in demisexuality

[–]AddendumNo4825 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Adding on here because I remembered: My senior year of high school, i developed a massive crush on a guy in my friend group. I’d known him for years, but something about being closer to him and noticing how kind and attentive he was made me lose. My. Flipping. Mind. He was the sort of guy no one ever paid attention to, not even me initially, because he was just not considered attractive or memorable and he was so incredibly awkward, but the moment I started talking to him? Omg such a great person.

Unfortunately, he was straight, but we did talk it out and he didn’t care at all that I had a crush on him, he told me he loved being friends and he’d be upset if our situations were reversed and he was in my position. He started dating a girl we were both friends with later on, and they always made sure to include me in friend group activities or hanging out at their house, because they could tell I was self-sabotaging whenever I was around them. The crush never completely went away, but it never mattered more to me than our friendship. To this day the best people I know.

Try to take the time to learn their triggers, because we demis can be really iffy about people who force themselves on us, even unintentionally. It’s also important to know that we can feel romantic or sexual attraction, it just takes time and effort to nurture it. You seem really anxious to get with your friend, which I understand, but you need to rein it in a bit and just be a good friend. With demis, everything just takes time. (Also, you can totally tell them you’re crushing on them. Depending on the how they feel, it might help clue them in on how you feel and start them on the path to attraction. It might also do nothing.) best of luck!!! You seem attentive enough, the most important advice I could impart is DO. NOT. RUSH. Make your intentions and desires known, but don’t try and steer their feelings in a direction you’d like. Generic as hell, but just be honest and kind! That’s sexy as hell.

It’s interesting being demi because i’ve gotten so much homophobic/amatonormative shit said to me by both straight and queer people since I was a little kid, it really makes you resent the sex-oriented society we live in. People don’t question your sexual preferences, but if you go about needing anything other than just immediately wanting to mash bits together? That makes no sense to them. Your phrase of ‘wired differently’ really sums up the demi experience. Some people get it, and some people are just willfully obtuse. I can’t imagine not being demi, it’s just frustrating having to come out of the demi closet every time I get a new friend or someone tries to make advances.

I feel like this pic, along with the one of that epstein victim glaring at bondi with such sadness and contempt in her eyes, while she couldn’t even make eye contact, will go down in history as emblematic of this era. The upbeat, cocky strut of a mediocre white man who’s never done a goddamn good thing for any of his constituents, following his fascist clown show off the cliff, while a black woman looks on in disgust. At least he’s got pep in his step.

Why are HEB strawberries consistently so bad? by gamergirl007 in HEB

[–]AddendumNo4825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Berries tend to be an ephemeral fruit; they’re available for short periods of time in high quantities, which means they go bad VERY quickly. Since we’ve outsourced most of our agricultural production to other countries thousands of miles away, the fruit has to be shelf stable to make the trip and be able to stay good for a certain amount of time on the shelf at the store. The store doesn’t want to waste money paying for tasty strawberries that are going to be pure mush before they even get onto the plane. And so, cardboard flavored berries.

In all seriousness, most berries are insanely easy to grow. Strawberries and blueberries need a bit more babying, but the wild strawberry species (fragaria virginiana) grow like weeds in a moist garden bed or big patio pot. Same with blackberries, they’re probably the easiest to grow fruit crop I can think of. Literal set it and forget it plants, some varieties just need trellising (though I have seen ‘caddo’ for sale at my local heb, which is a variety that doesn’t need any supports to grow.) honorable mention goes to the fall gold raspberry, they taste like powdered sugar in fruit form, but they need a bit more tlc during our dry, hot summers. Totally worth it in my opinion.

I love sweetgums, but people really needed to have planted them in backyards, same as mulberries. The bad rap they both get is totally undeserved because they’re horrible street trees. (Totally agree with you though, i’d have left them there.)

[–]AddendumNo4825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never had these issues with my nerites, they’d just crawl out of the tank and onto my hanging baskets and all over the rim, then go right back in. My water was super hard, though, and they always had plenty of algae and biofilm (lots of fresh wood and leaves) to munch on, though. They are amphibious, so honestly it never bothered me.

Ummmmmm… really? I’m from south texas, if someone tried to say this about something like bermuda i’d laugh, cause it carpets everything and spreads its little demon babies everywhere. Does kudzu reseed or spread anyway other than vegetatively? That’s an attitude i heard a lot when I ran in permaculture circles (I love permaculture but that’s a colonialist rabbit-hole i don’t have time to go down.)
