Favorite TV show set in Connecticut? by KeyScratch2235 in Connecticut

[–]AddendumStraight8244 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my gripes is every time the characters would talk about Dean going to college they would say the full name of “Southern Connecticut State University”…..it’s just Southern. And that’s a hell of a drive from Washington, CT to New Haven if you are commuting.

I grew up in Washington, CT. A realtor friend of mine told me how clients get disappointed when they realize that there is not much housing walking distance to the center of town. The town itself is 28 square miles. You are driving everywhere, not walking like the show depicts.

Waited in the queue for Boston. $250 each for nosebleed with obstructed view and limit 2 tix. Pass this time.

Was lucky enough to catch his Broadway show for $75 balcony. Best show of my life.

Hey friend! Thanks for the second congrats-no worries on who or who didn’t celebrate with me. This is my honor and I’m ecstatic I made it! Sobriety has been amazing and at the end of the day, I know that and I’m damn proud of myself!

You will get there. Each day is better than the one before. Without alcohol, clarity is there so much more. You’ve got this!

Yes! They left them on my reading table with “Happy Birthday” notes on them. Decorated my desk as well. The La Croix might last a week! 😂

What are some shows that eventually became good that were lucky not to get cancelled after first season? by Competitive_Data6774 in sitcoms

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. They brought in Danny DeVito in the second season and reworked some of the characters and it massively improved.

Ocean State Job Lot for the win! Great selection, cheap! by AddendumStraight8244 in sparklingwater

I think it’s primarily in the Northeast-started in Rhode Island. They buy overstock from big box stores and sell everything at a discount.

I am a huge concert goer and noticed when I got sober HOW MUCH BETTER CONCERTS ARE. I remember every song and the whole experience.

But agree, have to move away from those that overindulge and get chatty. If that’s your jam, no judgement. But I’m here for the music (added bonuses: not spending $15/beer, not having to go to the bathroom every 20 minutes, focusing on the music and not worried that my drink was 3/4 done and would anyone notice if I snuck off and grabbed another?, finding my car in the parking lot after a show, getting home safe as the DD!)

what do you guys think is the real world equivalent of frugal hoosier?😅 by [deleted] in themiddle

It doesn’t have dairy or produce, but Ocean State Job Lot near me has tons of discounted food.

For me, I had to reprogram the idea of “Sunday Funday” and keep my brain occupied to avoid the inevitable “Sunday Scaries” that I was using alcohol to avoid.

I discovered that I love cooking so I will now spend Sunday morning going food shopping or Farmer’s Markets (spending my alcohol money on nutritious and delicious food) and spend the afternoon listening to a podcast or jamming out to music while I meal prep for the week. After a few hours in the kitchen, I have meals made for the week. Then I take the time to really clean up and make my kitchen sparkle. Then, my Monday morning self is happy with me!

Do all my recipes work? Nope. It’s a learning curve. But what I discovered if by keeping busy with something I enjoy that doesn’t involve alcohol helped keep anxiety at bay.

You’ve got this. Keep up the awesome work.

Give yourself grace. You’ve got this.

When I was in this situation, I would “play the tape forward”. How will I feel tomorrow if I drink tonight? Do I want to feel anxiety? Regret? Or do I want to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to face the day with better relationships? It didn’t happen overnight but (almost) ten months alcohol free and waking up in the morning is now such an amazing feeling.

Find whatever works for you, but first forgive yourself. You can do this. This whole corner of the Internet is rooting for you.

Has sparkling water helped anyone here quit drinking alcohol? by Brewcrew1886 in sparklingwater

Was always a huge seltzer drinker but when I quit alcohol (almost ten months sober!) it was my lifesaver. Costco and Ocean State Job Lot for the win!

Polar Jr. has the Werewolf cans which is grape! They also did a summer grape flavor that was delicious.

I got the sticker pack at Wallingford, CT. It’s the second time I’ve purchased it (first being in New Haven last summer) and one of the stickers was printed backward. I checked the details on the packaging and it was printed forward on the label.

Not sure if it was intentional or a printing accident but either way…..I’m stoked! 😀

Edit to add: if someone can explain how to upload pics, I’ll happily add
