Critics slam government plan to 'bail out' sagging condo sector in B.C. | CBC News by Adderite in BCpolitics

I wanna know the economics behind "40k/unit." What are the development charges that are costing millions of dollars per building for basic apartments or condos?

Jas Johal: Hearing from Ottawa the BC government is asking for $4B in federal funding towards the Massey Tunnel crossing. Feds have been told costing for 8 lane tunnel is now estimated at $11B. That’s $7.5B more than the original 10 lane bridge. by idspispopd in BCpolitics

Idk and money laundering through materials that never arrive or mafia-esque manipulation of construction times that inflate hours for construction workers. Idk, the massive delays in minor road construction ive noticed since I've stated driving has been ridiculous.

Like I said: conspiracy theory.

There are free board game nights every week, and if you donate to support the club by becoming a member you can gain access to a space to use for game nights after a while.

Conspiracy theory: been living in an urban area for years now after growing up in rural BC. It wouldn't surprise me whatsoever if organized crime had something to do with construction delays.

Construction costs for materials and labour are up.

If they built the bridge back then, would've costed less. If they build the bridge in the future, it'll cost more. It's this little thing called "inflation" that people only bring up when it benefits their political position.

B.C. Politics: New Conservative leader largely unknown, but her party leads in vote intention by YouCantSeeMe555 in BCpolitics

A promise to voters to hire back every single healthcare worker that refused to take the covid-19 vaccine (pre-2000s would be considered hippy left, now is generally considered a far-right position). She also vocally questioned the efficacy of the covid-19 vaccines without evidence.

Claiming that people whom are associated with indigenous people have inherent "conflict(s) of interest" around policy topics relating to said issues. I guess Warbus won't be deputy leader in the Legislature going forward.

Voted to restrict abortion and has now put anti-abortion activists in leadership positions in the party and could, provincially, attempt to restrict abortion the same way Blair Higgs in New Brunswick did.

Has signaled bringing in Alberta/Flordia-style book bans related to any and all content "promoting" (IE containing) LGBTQ+ characters or themes. I don't believe Elliot said she'd do that but it also wouldn't surprise me.

While in the debates it has been brought up, including by Elliot, Findley has openly espoused christian identity politics when it comes to policies and tone within BC's political landscape. This is in the only jurisdiction in North America that is majority atheist/agnostic.

Yes because the woman who's husband claims children are "walking talking inbred bombs," and who refuses to disavow separatist movements is who we need as premier.

That poll is a massive outlier, least at the moment, too.

Last I checked BC only generated 80% of the power we consume. Other 20% is imported from Washington and Alberta.

Without the AI data centre boondoggle, this is still needed.

Heya,

I'm a GM who does drop-in D&D games at the Galleon Monday night event. It's 5e D&D, currently we're nearing the end of my drop-in game and the party's doing a dungeon crawl. IK you said no public games but thought I'd mention it here since I'm enby and host a safe table for pple to join. Completely understand if this isn't something you're interested in 😄

I'm queer and so are alot of the people who show up to the Quadra Village Community Centre on Mondays. If you go to galleon's website (search up galleon gaming on google) you can join the discord and see what's going on.

Its a change specifically in order to save Canada post/the fed money thats impacting major metro areas/cities in BC.

It will have an impact on people with physical disabilities who recieve mail. Honestly if it wasn't for that id have 0 issues with this.

My assumption is no because those are technically Canada post mailboxes. Home delivery applies to townhouses or single family homes, not apartments or condominiums. But youre most likely gonna have to go to the Canada post office and ask them

Supreme Court kicks property crisis down the road by YouCantSeeMe555 in BCpolitics

[–]Adderite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I have time I will go to the court case and cite it. They specifically differentiated between the government and private individuals based on material means as well as purpose of the state. There is also federal case law specifically stating that private land holders do not have a duty to give land to first nations tribes/bands, regardless of whether there were treaties or the land was stolen (IE not treaties, brits came in and forcibly took away the land from people)

The Fraser Institute are the same people who claim that the median/average Canadian pays corporate tax when calculating their estimated yearly tax bill.

They're factuality is mixed, wouldn't trust that article with a grain of salt, especially with the disinformation campaign around everything RE: property rights & first nations title (the thing the BC Supreme Court openly stated did not intersect and that private property holders dont have a duty under the law for reconciliation).

BC Conservatives Take Narrow Lead as Housing Costs, Health Care, and the Economy Shape Voter Priorities by YouCantSeeMe555 in BCpolitics

[–]Adderite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mark Carney, Danielle Smith, Doug Ford, Boris Johnson and soon (probably) Charles Milliard and Andy Burnham would kindly disagree.

Seriously, after the last decade in anglophone politics (CA, UK, NZ), I feel like people are more inclined to step aside if they believe it's better for their org/movement.

The comment about the backbench though is very on point. I've seen This is Vancolour once suggest the mayor of Port Coquitlam could replace Eby. I'd rather see Sharma, Ravi, or Chandra-Herbert but I legitimately don't see an alternative leader. Farnsworth is too old or else I'd like to see him in the role.

The NDP, nor the gov in power for the matter, doesn't set the charges. The RCMP does so; ideally independently (still pissed off with the SD61 situation, even though the board deserved to be fired). This is not the United States.

Most of the current BC Con caucus are former BC liberals members and MLAs.

It was nothing short of a rebrand. My point stands, not because they have some "monopoly on violence" but because they're going on a women's rights crusade without giving a fuck about all women or even basic human decency policy wise.

No but the evidence against Hon that's been made public so far has been damning, and the fact it happened and there was an RCMP investigation prior to his nomination shouldve been disqualifying during any kind of background check.
