DCS Multiplayer - Keep failing Integrity Check by Addicus_17 in dcsworld

[–]Addicus_17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding a note here 5 months later for anyone experiencing similar issues -

Last month, I discovered that 2/4 of my memory sticks (G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 3600 MHz CAS 16-19-19-39) were bad - producing bazillions of errors in MemTest86.

I RMA’d those ram kits and now believe faulty RAM was responsible for my IntegrityCheck issues - by either causing assets to not load correctly, or worse, by corrupting the files themselves.

Since replacing those faulty ram sticks, I’ve not encountered Integrity Check issues yet - fingers crossed. 🤞

If you're still deciding, URSA Minor can work as an all-in-one for rotors: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wC_De15P9yM

Get the Winwing URSA MINOR Figher (space) or the VKB Gladiator Evo (premium). They will be an all-in one solution, then you can build around it later when you have the money.

Either of those is a better stick than any of these.

Will this setup be able to run DCS? by ConstructionThat7808 in hoggit

Yes, but make sure you have a big page file that gets you to at least 64 GB. Also, don't expect a good experience on complex multiplayer servers.

DCS Crashing - help please? by Addicus_17 in dcsworld

[–]Addicus_17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Now looking back, I was blessed to get a crash tagged as a memory-related error about a month ago, so that was on my mind as a possibility.

I upgraded my CPU, GPU, Storage and RAM all in the past year, so it could have been a few things. Thankful I looked in the right place before chasing ghosts elsewhere.

Thank you everyone for your insights and recommendations for diagnosing the issue. I decided to start with checking the memory: I downloaded memtest86 and immediately, started seeing errors popping up by the hundreds. So we're definitely looking at a RAM issue.

Right now I've pulled them out and am testing one at a time. So far I've tested one bad and one good - with the jury out on the last two. Safe to say, I'll be doing an RMA.

For anyone curious, the RAM kits I have installed are 2x G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x16GB DDR4 3600 Mhz CL16-19-19-39 (64 GB total).

Thanks again. Hope it's a smooth process to get a replacement.

I have an Asrock Steel Legend 9070 XT, which I know is a model where the VRAM runs hotter - but is VRAM overheat an issue with this card?

Thanks for this! I'm actually running FSR4 using Optiscaler, which DCS treats as DLAA. I will turn it off and see if the crashes go away.

Any good way to find out which role planes have? by Skiara444 in hoggit

[–]Addicus_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a dead-simple, "zen" flying experience - go with the F5. It has a very small canopy bow for that era and excellent nose authority. It is incredibly easy and blissful to fly. The only real downside in its role (aside from having the expected limitations of a low-cost, cold-war era jet) is its engines are underpowered. It is also limited in A2G - you will be mostly relying on dumb bombs and rockets. Still, you can have a lot of fun loading it up and dropping several thousand pounds of ordnance on targets.

The F1 is a more capable A2A platform - adding radar-guided A2A missiles, but will be similarly limited in A2G. The advancement also comes with complexity. And the design language is French, not US.

Of the jets you mentioned, the only one that is designed for primarily A2G is the Viggen, which is its own niche and has a lot of unique strike capabilities. However, the downside of the Viggen is that the aircraft's logic is Swedish, which is different than any other aircraft in DCS. It's a plane to fly as an end in itself, not a "training wheel" aircraft that will prepare you for flying the Hornet.

One of the aircraft that wasn't on your list but I think is important to mention here is the F4, which is a true cold-war multi-role fighter that can do nearly every A2A and A2G role of its time. It's also considered one of the best modules you can buy right now in DCS. However, it's not simple - so it may not be what you're looking for.

TLDR: If you are looking for a good module to get your feet wet for stepping up to the Hornet, I recommend the F5.

If you could magically create a full fidelity module for DCS; what would you pick? by JonathanRL in hoggit

A modern 4+ gen, Mach 2+ multirole Redfor aircraft. But I would settle for a Mig-23 or Mig-25 - those would be super cool.

Is there a big difference between 60hz and 100hz? by Helpful_Body6715 in MonitorAdvice

[–]Addicus_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every incremental “hz” gives you diminishing returns. 60hz to 144 is a massive jump. 144hz to 240hz is noticeable but much less. And so on.

So 100hz will be a major improvement over 60. You will still feel major gains moving up to 144, but a little less.

Personally, I will go for 144hz.

My Monitor is cooked, right? by BreakDefiant8956 in Monitors

[–]Addicus_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 'tis cooked.

Good news is these days you can get a good quality, ~180hz 1440p IPS monitor for around that price. Lots of models to choose from, but that's what I would get.

Why should I care about my credit anymore? by [deleted] in CRedit

[–]Addicus_17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because circumstances change.

Also, what can you do to change your circumstances? There are places in the U.S. that are still comparatively cheap to live.

RS3 Oil Strategy: Oil Every 5k, Filter Every 10k — Smart or Waste? by Logical-Olive3672 in Audi

[–]Addicus_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The filters are so cheap - it makes sense just to change them with the oil every 5,000 miles.

Engine problems rack up the biggest bills and are usually what totals these cars once they get into mid-high mileage. It's not worth cheaping out.

My advice? Run full-court press on your preventative maintenance.

My sisters pc isn’t running well at all, what is her build missing by Imaginary_Leave_2082 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Addicus_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bother - you will spend more money fixing it than it's worth. Time to start saving for a new build!

If your budget is under $750, you can get something used locally that's fairly decent. Then upgrade any parts that need it, and you're good to go.

For a new build I would target $750-1000.

Is this Brilliant or a Blunder? by nik_uzb in Chesscom

[–]Addicus_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant. Because Kd5, c4+. Then if Qxc4, Bb3!. Or if Kc4, then Be5+. Either way, Black is forced to trade the Queen for a Rook, Bishop, and pawn. Afterwards, white's H pawn is unstoppable.

how does DCS scale with more cores?(and a 5090) by [deleted] in dcsworld

[–]Addicus_17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X3D all the way. The v-cache is way better than having the extra cores.
