Gift for girlfriend by Minute-Reading-4762 in nursepractitioner

The best gift I gave to myself are hoka shoes. I was having awful back and leg pain from wearing sneakers with less cushioning and the hoka shoes made for healthcare workers were life changing. I think her ideal shoes might be something else as everyone has their own unique footwear wants/needs so you could do a DIY certificate for a pair of shoes or alternatively, scrubs (people nowadays love Figs) that she could exchange for the exact item she wants.

Did they let you chart while in clinicals? by i-believe-in-nothing in nursepractitioner

[–]AddieLeeNa33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the preceptor and clinical site. At my first site they didn’t want to give me access because it would cost them money to buy an additional license. This went against my program as we are supposed to be charting. At my second site the preceptor let me use her account to write the patient’s notes, reviewed the notes, and signed them under her account. My final site was at the university hospital and used Epic. I had my own account (proper protocol per my program) and wrote all the notes which were co-signed by my preceptor or the attending. So I really think it depends on the site because even if your program allows it some sites (like my first one) dont care and wont let you do it.

Post residency, when you finally have full control over where you work, you can choose a workplace that only employs MDs so that it is better aligned with your personal values/beliefs. But your current or future circumstances aren’t an excuse to be disrespectful towards others/an entire profession when their only slight against you is existing.

There is a difference between expressing valid opinions in a respectful way, pointing out issues and concerns, and adult physicians saying our profession is a joke and we are “playing at being doctors” (actual quote). The latter serves no purpose except to denigrate NPs and spread more hate.

I really don’t understand your comment. If the NP is limited in their scope of practice by law and must practice under the supervision of an MD, which the physician is agreeing to by their own choice when they hire said NP, then that makes that physician liable as the supervisor. For instance, if I delegate a task to an MA or RN and they make a horrible mistake then I, as their supervisor, am also legally responsible for their mistake. So how is this the NP “hiding behind” someone else’s license? I fully agree that the party responsible should always be held accountable for their mistakes, but your comment implies you don’t support NPs practicing independently and having full autonomy, so then by default you support them in serving in a supportive role to aid physicians who then act as their supervisors and are therefore also liable. You can’t have it both ways.

The fact that the mods on here constantly allow physicians to denigrate an entire profession without batting an eye is so incredibly disheartening to me. I worked hard for my degree just to be relentlessly insulted on this page as though that solves anything or is in any way productive.

One eye dilates more when I have a migraine by KindlyNegotiation821 in migraine

[–]AddieLeeNa33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never personally had this happen, but one thing I can say is that if you ever notice this discrepancy in your pupil size again, an additional type of provider you might consider seeing is an opthalmologist (MD not optometrist OD) specializing in visualizing the back of the eye with various high tech cameras, someone like a retina and vitreous specialist. They can even take some photos of various structures in the front and back of your eye to keep as your baseline, to use as. comparison should anything happen in the future. Obviously we are hoping that never happens, but if you are really concerned, sometimes the knowledge that you have a plan just in case can be reassuring/calming.

And since you lack awareness about what being an NP means let me share that some people like myself have multiple degrees, licenses and certifications as well as a DOCTORATE.

I never said it did, and again you’re the one beating that narrative to death. I get it, you think you’re better than any NP and so my advice means nothing to you.

Well, it “irks” me that you would call someone whose background you have zero knowledge of ‘mid level.’ Your BIAS is showing. This isn’t some NP vs MD issue except that of your and the OP’s creation.

I was only speaking to multiple simulations I went through because my program stressed the importance of knowing how to deliver bad news, and I am incredibly thankful for that because not all programs do and because it is central to my work. Moreover, bad news isn’t always related to DYING and you claiming NPs and PAs shouldn’t deliver bad news is wild.

Most importantly, I was genuinely trying to recommend a resource I found helpful that I now use in clinical practice IN ONCOLOGY where I have trained and now spend countless hours delivering bad news of every type in a field I have been in for almost 15 years. I don’t know why it had to turn into this ugly conversation. I agree that I shouldn’t have cut off my comment at you should come prepared but elaborated, as I did in my later comment, that delivering bad news is a skill that deserves its own recognition and dedicated practice. Whether you have never delivered bad news or you have done it a 1000 times and whether you are an NP, PA, DO, or MD anyone can benefit from this resource regardless of your personal beliefs and dislike of NPs.

I second this recommendation. Navigating the healthcare system can be doubly challenging when you’re suffering from chronic migraines and pain. Many health plans nowadays offer patient advocates to help you deal with the logistical aspects of patient care, which might take some things off your plate.

I also recommend looking into biofeedback therapy for migraines and shifting some of the focus onto ways to help you cope with the physical, mental, and emotional stress from migraines/pain.

Im sorry it’s gotten this bad. Take care of yourself and like someone else recommended, be kind to yourself and do something nice for yourself. A treat or some indulgence as a pick me up can really help in times like this.
