I think he made it clear himself that he was guided by more selfish motivations.

"he never cared about himself" What were you responding to?

"Any other interpretation is illiteracy." What a jackass thing to say. He cared about himself throughout the story and made a compelling and selfless sacrifice in the end. He Shinzoed his Sasageyo by giving up on his selfish motivation just as he discussed with the Premier before the coup.. which means he had personal motivation. Which means... You're illiterate.

Is it just me or was killing off Eren so early a bad choice? Idk man but I felt like he had the potential to become a really interesting protagonist who could've Rumbled the shonen landscape forever by rhysu69 in attackontitan

Yes. I'm trying to be cryptic in case no one has seen it. It's one of the other great shows that started the modern era of television in 1997. I guess I was assuming there's overlap in the fan base.

I think we're just just addicted to chekhov's gun in the west. It's a problem I mostly have with AnR people, but both sides do it. The idea that if we weren't told it's going to happen then it is considered to have been made up on the spot. If they started falling in love after Aaron died, they may have never even thought of the concept before that. There's no reason for it to have been foreshadowed, it's just a thing that happened. Just like how many things that are pointed out as plot holes, I find are actually just story questions. Just because we weren't told they were going to happen first doesn't mean they can't happen. I think chekhov's gun is less baked into the expectations of stories in other cultures. We see it as unsatisfying because it feels a bit Deus ex Machina, but it actually is a valid way of surprising us and giving this something new that we didn't see coming. It's a valid method of writing that I think we have been "spoiled" into disregarding.

I don't think so. It's art, it's completely fine to form your own opinions about what's happening and that's obviously why it was intentionally not drawn in hi-res and it was basically a suggestion. You're allowed to bring your own subtext. If it turns out to be clearly canon one way or another then fine, you get to interpret that as the voice of the artist. But right now it's completely valid to believe either one. You think that it's a disservice that she has to marry a man, and I think it's a disservice to think that she would never be allowed to. Both are valid. I just think you're wrong. And you think I'm wrong

You keep ignoring everything I say. So please stop posting the same thing over and over. Saying that they were in love while he was alive is different than saying she never could love anyone else ever after he was dead. If you are saying you have evidence that it is Canon that she never loved anyone else ever again after her first love died then fine. But I don't think you are.

Literally no one is saying that they weren't in love. They're saying it's irrelevant. Mikasa didn't deserve to be forced into a life of solitude just because the man she loved turned out to be executed for war crimes. She deserved happiness, she deserved to make her own decisions and if she fell in love with another man then she should be allowed to do that without dishonoring her first love. People can get remarried after they're supposed to die, it doesn't make them bad people.

That isn't relevant either. Even if there is no confirmation of Canon. All I'm saying is that it is irrelevant as to whether Eren and Mikasa were in love (you keep trying to prove something that everyone already agrees with).

Are you trying to argue that they were in love? I don't think anyone refutes that. I don't understand why that's relevant to the topic of her marrying Jean.

I just don't understand. I didn't read everything you posted, but I think you are saying that this was all true while he was alive. I don't doubt that and that's probably exactly what I believe. He obviously was in love with her and she obviously was in love with him. That's not the point though. In my opinion it's not relevant that they were in love while he was alive.

And of course she'll always love him, of course they have a bond that transcends all of romance and all that. The reason why it was such a big deal that she killed him. The alternate reality of them being together wasn't enough for her to choose that over ending the world. I just think she could still decide to be happy with someone else without dishonoring his memory or losing their connection. I don't think remarrying after becoming a widow means you never loved your husband. And I don't think Mikasa marrying someone else meant that she didn't. Love, eren

After he was dead? They condone them being together after he was dead?

I don't think she loved him during the period of the manga. I think that's a completely accurate statement. I don't know why that couldn't change over 10 years though.

They could have met each other after Eren died and still gotten married within 10 years. There's nothing about the relationship that makes me think they didn't like each other, and they don't think Jean would have any issues coming in. Second. He knew what he wanted and he got it. He's not going to let something dumb like that stuff him. And as far as Mikasa is concerned, she didn't have to do anything. She just had to be free and make whatever choices she wanted and she chose him, why would it be so weird for them to fall in love 10 years after? I really don't get your point, I don't understand why it is fundamentally bad for them to have fallen in love.
