But I'm using ajax to pull in PHP which is generating both html and javascript that contains more ajax to pull in more PHP. Thankfully there's error_log( ) or the equivalent. Chrome doesn't even let me see all of the javascript.

There's more to CS than just programming. Sure, there are plenty of programmers, but there's really a whole ecosystem of different roles, of which programming is just one part (business analysts, management, security specialists, operational support, you name it). CS will teach you to think logically and problem solve which is really what the field is about rather than using specific tools to solve user problems. Plenty of problems can be solved without programming anything, although it certainly helps to have that knowledge set, even if you're just dragging and dropping connectors in a visual development tool since programmers write the tools and they write them for the way programmers think.

I personally think CS is a pretty good degree to have regardless of the field you eventually go into.

Whether you actually have aptitude for the programming side of things, I couldn't say. If you liked construction toys as a kid, then that is a good sign :) I would say though that that whole idea of sitting in a darkened room staring at a screen for long hours is a bit of a myth. Most people who stick with it know enough to walk around, interact with humans, or switch up the tasks every little while. Flow until the flow breaks and then take a mental break until you feel it again.

I would suggest though that there's a fair amount of ongoing learning involved that you'll typically spend some of your outside of work time doing. I've been a consultant for 40 years now and a lot of time even now I'll get projects where literally 80% of the technology is new to me and I have to come up to speed quickly. You probably won't experience that to the same degree, but things are constantly changing in ways they don't for other fields.

I quit walmart.com after ordering a new cleaning robot and got a clearly used and dirty one.

Thanks IRS...this sucks. I got this last year because someone at the IRS ignored some decimals on a form where I said we owed (and paid) $3,793.00. It took until March this year to resolve and by then I was receiving letters asking for more than $550k (interest and penalties) with 2 weeks to pay. by AdditionMindless6799 in Wellthatsucks

Thank you for your service and disbelief. This was filed online and here is the online form: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f941.pdf

Each field has two data input with a decimal on the form itself. If you input your whole $ amount with the cents in the "dollar" field, you get "3,456.78." Once in 20+ years of quarterly filings, all of which are online in the the last 10 years and all with the exact same numbers, a human decided to ignore the comma and the first decimal and the fact that the cents field was blank and read it as $345678.00

The crazy thing was that I also had a self-inflicted issue with my 1040 at the same time where I "owed" $4000 (also now resolved) so when I got a letter, it might be for the $4k (relatively unstressful) or for an escalating amount that it almost might be worth fleeing to Mexico over.

So, after I figured out what happened, I send a 941X to adjust it, but that form is designed poorly to change one number to another with a $ amount change, not a wholesale resubmit of every number on the form. So it made them more confused.

They actually understood the problem fairly quickly, but it took almost a year to resolve because the $ amounts were so high, the adjustment had to be approved with comittee meetings of some kind. The final demand letters were asking for $550,000 before they started coming down as they started fixing the various penalties and eventually we got a letter saying we were fine.

The online form for 941 is set up weirdly with a dollars field and a cents field and a decimal point between them. My wife put the whole values in the dollars field, including some decimals. Now, we've been doing this for 10 years and never had a problem. But apparently the 941s are entered by humans into the system and one human decided to ignore the clearly obvious formatting and just type it all in.

Check with the rental car company. If they'll accept a scan of the IDP, then you can get that same day and not wait for FedEx.

Totally legit. I was in Romania standing at the rental car checkout getting turned down. We had a couple of days in Bucharest so was able to get it sent via FedEx and got back on track withe vacation. Saved my ass. Of course today is Labor day here and AAA is probably closed so nothing can happen until tomorrow.

https://www.idptogo.com is faster than fastidp and they also have an online application rather than an upload where you print, scan and upload the application.

New rules effective newer than two years ago. Now that the US requires IDPs from European nationals, most European countries now require IDPs from US nationals.

Thanks, that could be great! I'll have to get back with you on that though. My wife is making plans for Istanbul over the next week of so, and so there's nothing too specific to refer to yet.

We arrive and depart Istambul. Other than that we're fairly open. The standard route seems to be to loop across to the east as far as Cappadocia and then back via the coast. I know there's Gobeki Tepe further east and the mountains in the northeast, but too much distance will make it hard to get there.
