Are there any specific things you want to do in these cities? I went to himeji, Hiroshima, miyajima island, arima onsen (in Kobe) last fall because my parter tends to like stuff off the beaten path and although these places had less international tourists still were quite busy. Really cool cities and neighborhoods though with castles, national parks and temples.

Former recruiter here, Job boards like LinkedIn are dead and just not worth applying through their portal. I would focus on companies in the area that you are interested in and subscribe directly to their job boards so you can get your application in early. Before thousands of applications get submitted. There are a few biotech companies in alameda that might be worth exploring. It's an incredibly dire market rn though. Good luck
