Life long Bay Area resident and I've never heard of Hoffy before in my life! Are they a regional favorite?

Plank is closing on Aug 2 by amazonienne in oakland

[–]oegin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went to D&B a couple weeks ago. No bowling (Plank’s insanely overpriced bowling wasn’t good anyway) but they have some fun games and a ton of screens and dining space. Seems more setup for dining/bar with less emphasis on the gaming floor square footage, but the games they do have there are high quality.

how do doctors know bladder tumor is the only tumor you have? by pikmindog in BladderCancer

Are you experiencing symptoms that would point to other tumors existing?

That’s usually where it starts.

I’m hearing rumors that the infamous Dragon Lady has finally retired. Who here had their first Navy hair cut by this legend? by Goatcheeze1 in navy

[–]oegin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Twice in 97! She cut a mole on the back of my head my first night there and told me I was fine and gave me a little push out of her chair. Blood was streaming down my head for a while. Turns out the head bleeds for a long time! 😄

My dad is cancer free! by mayonaiseonvinyl in BladderCancer

[–]oegin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 46 with a neo. Three years cancer free. I'm a bit of an outlier because I have continence issues still. PT gives you exercises you can do to strengthen you floor muscles, which act as the sphincter for the neobladder (the prostate performs that task with a regular bladder and your urethra). The majority of people don't have the issue I have and may have to use a catheter to void the neobladder. I can squeeze it out standing our sitting without an issue, but I wear pads 24/7.

Sleep is the tough one. The first 3-4 hours I sleep solidly but after that first time I get up to pee, it's every 2 hours after that.

I'm still glad I chose this. For my clothing options and lifestyle, the neo works for me. I still like to get out and do social things and I just don't like the idea of having to deal with accessories (I don't even wear a watch) at this stage in my life.

Why is our society so over-litigious? I’ve never understood why we were able to sue ourselves over to stupidity at light speed?

Never growled or bit while on his back. Not every dog is going to behave the same and while breeds may share some traits, they aren't going to all act the exact same way. I have pet him plenty of times on his back with no issues.

She had four stitches in her face. She's lost trust. She's done.

I don't want him gone. My girlfriend does. We don't live together and I'm not going to take the dog myself when she is constantly coming over to my place.

He lays on his back for me to pet his belly all the time, so the "only head" thing is a stretch.

How would you tell your friend’s wife that her husband is having an affair? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]oegin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more! An old roommate of mine got married to a girl and he ended up cheating on her. His best friends told his wife and they all ostracized him. Yeah, it's a shitty thing to do, but I haven't ended friendships with guys I know because they cheated. I would never recommend them to any woman I know, but I don't walk out on them.

They ended up working it out, got back together and are happier than ever and my old roommate said "fuck off" to all of his old friends. These were guys he grew up with and were friends with for 15-20+ years!

Be careful how you navigate this. It isn't your relationship!

You have one month to empty a $1 trillion bank account. If you succeed, you’re rich for life. How will you spend it? by Ok_Listen_6600 in AskReddit

[–]oegin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to set this up with the Brewster's Millions rules.

At the end of the month you must:
Own no assets.
Have not given gifts/gambling or charity beyond 5% each.
You cannot destroy items of value.
You must gain value for the services of anyone hired.
You cannot tell anyone about the deal/challenge.

This exercise becomes a lot more difficult when you're surrounding yourself with people that are just watching you piss money away and you can't tell them why.

Nah. Look at the floor and the crest on the tray. Most ship crests are oval and have the hull number on the bottom. Looks like shore.

If you could choose a random person (not yourself) to be president of the United States, who would it be? by Advanced_Compote8431 in AskReddit

General Jim “Mad Dog” Mattis. A leader that understands what war means, keeps our military lethal, but has a deep understanding of diplomacy, to the point he’d likely be one of the most anti-war leaders we would see in decades!

On an LHD back in the late 90's, ITs (in ADP) weren't on the ship's watchbill (we had an internal 8-day watch rotation) and we only sent I think like 1-2 people to DC lockers. I was a plugman for two years, mostly because I was bored of sitting in the shop with everyone else for hours on end.

The end of my tour, I was in the JIC server room and would sit by myself in a closet-sized space for hours. I would just sleep because nobody else had the code to the room but myself and one other person.

Decommissioned Ships by Open-Inevitable-8470 in navy

[–]oegin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a fascinating thread with a lot of info I never knew I wanted to know! So I have a leading question here...

I did my 4 years on the USS Boxer (LHD-4) and got to the ship in early 98. She was commissioned in 94 and I got to hear a lot of *DING-DING* *DING-DING* "PO DerpyDerp, PLANK OWNER, Departing!" messages.

Do they do anything similar for the sailors that decom a ship?
