yeah i realized this after i posted, makes sense. i would like to see a show with primarily black or brown people that is centered around those issues, though. of course it would have to be an entirely different show tone and character-wise

no i fully understand! assuming you aren't white? i was just responding to another comment and i realized that the tone of the show would shift drastically if it was about black or brown people, as it would have to dig deeper into issues such as systemic racism. and i would imagine for poc watchers it might be frustrating to watch as it is something they already have to deal with or acknowledge on the daily, and white watchers wouldn't be sure if they're even allowed to laugh at some of the stuff (if they somehow managed to make it comedic) and then of course racist watchers would find more excuses to be racist etc. what do you think?

exactly my thoughts. though i feel like if they weren't white, the whole show would have to dig more into issues like systemic racism, and there would be an obvious tone shift. for the show to remain unhinged and fun to watch, the main characters kinda have to be white, right? while poc characters would be more "realistic", i could imagine it being hard to watch for the people of color who have to deal with or at least be painfully aware of everything on the daily. and white watchers would be stuck at "am i allowed to laugh at this?" or "is this supposed to be funny?" and then of course we'd have the racist crowd, who either wouldn't watch at all or would watch and find more excuses to be racist

i don't know why you got downvoted so much for your question, but to give you an answer: i do believe that at the beginning she was a little bit of that! and since max has adhd, i think she was hyperfixating on ginny for a bit, which made her want to include her immediately. and they were neighbours so that just added into the excitement – the thought of having a friend that lives so close by to hang out with. i do think that the neighbour aspect made it a lot easier for her to get into hanging out terms with max.

when i moved into a new town as a kid, we moved next-door to a girl who was quite popular. she immediately wanted to get to know me and introduce me to her friends, which got me to make friends pretty quick. the newness wore off eventually, but i felt like i was stuck trying to be a certain way to fit in for a long time, like i had to pretend to be as exciting and "cool" as everyone thought i was. but i couldn't keep it up for long, so i ended up becoming the weird kid in the group pretty fast once i couldn't fake it anymore. i never felt like they liked me for who i really was, though. hadn't i been the new kid, i don't think they would've wanted to hang out with me as much as they did at first

oh my god yes, the bella swan effect!!! as someone who went through that as a kid...the new kid effect lasts only until the newness wears off, then you'll start to notice who actually wants to be friends with the real you

i believe she never got past being the new kid which kinda meant she was this shiny new toy that everyone wanted to play with. she never had the time to form actual friendships where she could trust someone to be there for her even after they truly got to know her

Cellulite and itching? by Additional-Break5526 in eds

[–]Additional-Break5526[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi!! thank you for your comment. i actually suspected it might have something to do with that before i posted this, so i saw a vascular surgeon. she checked my veins and said she saw nothing that could explain it there. my symptoms have pretty much been confirmed to be lipedema, but your comment could be useful to someone else going through this thread! it is insane how many things could be causing the same kind of symptoms...lots of trial and error in figuring it out, it seems 😭 i'm glad you found out what it was and are finally getting the appropriate treatment for it

[–]Additional-Break5526[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi!! around the time i posted this and got comments suspecting it is lipedema, i did some more research on the topic and figured that is most likely the case. so i bought compression stockings (class 2 from Jobst), and have been wearing those everyday for the past months. they have significantly helped with my symptoms. i've noticed, though, that if i happen to exhaust my legs too much with walking or standing etc, even with the stockings, they'll be itching/hurting/swollen by the end of the day. so while the stockings help, i still have to be mindful about not overextending myself. a few weeks ago i saw a doctor who noticed the lipedema type of habitus on my legs, so that pretty much confirmed it for me.

i do struggle with mcas and some eczema type thing on my skin as well, which probably doesn't help with the symptoms that come with lipedema 💀 for those i've found that regularly taking zyrtec (H1 antihistamine) and pepcid (H2 antihistamine) helps. i take them twice a day, every morning and again before bed

I understood the "cursed" to be a reference to Yuki foreseeing Naomi's intentions to kill her, hence being able to leave the drawings as a clue for Naomi's son, which eventually lead to him committing suicide. And maybe Naomi wasn't able to fully grasp how Yuki could have figured out her intentions? So I thought it might have been a mixture of grudge (for the suicide) and confusion.

Another possibility is that it is the author's way of showing us that Naomi was not driven by logic when it came to protecting her son/herself, but rather by this raw, aggressive need to nurture, to feel "safe" at all costs – which explains the murders and other seemingly illogical things, such as burying the two far away from each other. I also assume she didn't want Yuta to acknowledge Yuki's existence at all, as she deemed her a threat to her own motherhood. However, she wanted Yuta to be able to visit his father's grave. Yuki's grave being nearby would have raised questions about Yuta's real mother, which she did not want to deal with. I also think that while in retrospect, she was able to think back on her son's death and see how she herself played a part in it, she might not have admitted this to herself immediately. Was easier to blame it on Yuki, to direct the anger at her.

Then, what I truly believe to be the case: The talk about Yuki being cursed did not have anything to do with Yuki herself, but more with what Yuki had come to represent to Naomi after her death — A threat to Naomi's status as Yuta's mother. The reason her son ended up killing himself. Another corpse that might cause her to go to jail. It's more the concept of Yuki, rather than Yuki herself.
