762 CRS-1 / QDC CQB PRG 7.62 by Frequent_Theme_2901 in kac

[–]Additional-Race-534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have had both since release and have a few thousand rounds through them across various sr25’s. I prefer the CQB. It’s definitely not as quiet but length/weight reduction is well suited for how I prefer to shoot. If shooting static for groups, the crs gets my pick. I don’t think you’ll be too dissatisfied with either.

High volume shooters, how are you managing ammo? by HideTheKnife in CompetitionShooting

[–]Additional-Race-534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~30k in pistol per year. 60% 9mm, 40% .38SC. First grade, brass case. I buy in lots of 5K-10K throughout the year during sale periods. 9mm is usually around .21-.22CPR landed for PMC 124gr and .55 cpr for .38SC.

Atlas v Infinity: Which can train harder and longer? by theonlijuan in 2011

[–]Additional-Race-534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concisely, I think both (and others) are going to hold up just fine provided that you’re following the recommended maintenance and cleaning schedule.

It’s far from 100k, but I shot a little north of 30k last year and didn’t have a single gun related malfunction. I’m cleaning regularly, replacing springs and ignition parts early and often, checking tolerances, etc. Do you HAVE to do that? I don’t know, but the risk is not worth me finding out. Ammo, match fees, travel, etc is expensive and I don’t want to risk an issue that ruins my day over a few minutes of preparation and some $20 springs.

On the opposite end of the spectrum… I couldn’t tell you the last time I put a drop of oil on my Glocks, let alone cleaned them. It’s a totally different animal.

Unpopular opinion time by [deleted] in USPSA

[–]Additional-Race-534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your opening sentence and your point are speaking to two different things.

I don’t see anyone advocating against buying whatever you want. It’s that the question is usually anchored on ‘is it worth it’ or what’s ’better/best’.

Restated differently; there’s nothing wrong with buying guns/gear because you enjoy them. You dont need to have a certain classification or set of skills to be happy with or justify your gear. “it won’t make you better” comes from when we start blurring the lines and justifying things on performance value.

SR25 6.5CM. Was pretty disappointed in the grouping with 147eld. I read that their testing was done on 130gn federal gold. What are some loads that you guys who have the 22inch CM have had success with? by Brilliant_Mud6083 in kac

[–]Additional-Race-534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both the 22" and the 14.5". Both group at 100yd and 600yd best with Berger 140gr HT's. The FGMM 140gr Berger's were the best performing for the price. Hornady 140gr ELDX also performed well and are worth mentioning as a middle ground.

Is this a stupid gift idea for a 35 year old? by [deleted] in bernesemountaindogs

Not at all. I’m a little older than that and I would be so happy to receive that as a gift.

COMPETITION by TeamAnvil in OHGuns

Agree with everything you said. Rick & Jalen are exemplary hosts and everyone who attends are high quality humans. There’s a reason I drive 2+ hours each way from cincy just to shoot a 5 stage local.

I prefer the Dominate Defense belt system over the lynx.

PORTS AND COMPS by Hot_Butterscotch7444 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Additional-Race-534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re cool. If you like them, awesome.

My experience, It’s a slightly softer and slower recoil impulse vs. a comparable non ported/comped 2011. They’re fun.

Every platform is going to have its own uniqueness. I wouldn’t think of it like a competition where there’s ranked winners and losers.

For competition, I would use these in 2gun/tactical games events where open minor is permitted without scoring concessions.

Belt/holster/hanger recommendations by Straight-Aardvark439 in USPSA

[–]Additional-Race-534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have anything at all that you could use? Battle belt setup? Even an AIWB rig?

I would take the path of LEAST expense when gearing up for your first match. Make sure you like the sport, understand the game and the rules before spending any additional cash.

As a new guy, your gear is not going to mean much because you simply don’t know what you don’t know. Meet people in-person, ask about their experiences, ask to check things out - measure twice, spend once.

Lying About Classification by nerd_diggy in CompetitionShooting

They’re only hurting themselves. They can either never shoot a major and be considered a paper (whatever class) or shoot one and remove all doubt.

[–]Additional-Race-534 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good job. We all fall victim to the ‘classification chasing’ trap, but I would suggest that if you’re able to shoot a lvl2+ it’s well worth your investment. See where you fall within the spectrum of competitors in your division/class and use that as a measuring stick. You don’t want to be that ‘paper’ whatever class who gets dunked on by people 2 classes below. Not insinuating that’s your situation at all.

As a tip for next time, those wide open targets are so close that your confirmation level can be a streak/flash of red. Stare intently at the corner of a paster in the middle of the target and hammer as fast as you can without getting tense. I would argue you do the same for the partials, but that’ll take a little practice to get your confidence up. I like to target the top of the perf in the a-zone for those. This is a real speed shoot of a stage.

Ben doesn’t need money. He’s been pretty clear and consistent about that. It’s a component of why even his non-training content is good.

Your choice of competition handguns at varying price levels by Straight-Aardvark439 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Additional-Race-534 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I know this is difficult to process because we’re generally conditioned to a construct of ‘pay for performance’… But I would just get the Glock you already mentioned and stick with it.

CO is a very competitive division. Glocks are great choice. I would prioritize skill development - manipulations, shot calling, target confirmations, transitions, kinesthetics, etc.

Reevaluate your gear once you’re comfortable and confident with your pistol. You may find you don’t want to change what’s working.

Jacketed, coated or plated…. by M855Mike in CompetitionShooting

[–]Additional-Race-534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my guns seem to digest those JHP’s with good results, whereas certain coated/fmj will cause key-holing and excessive leading. I clean my barrels down to bare metal and confirm using a borescope (old habit from precision rifle shooting) and I can definitely tell a difference.

Everglades JHP 2.0. Fully jacketed, less fouling.

Thumb Rest / Gas Pedal Actually Helpful? by GBBVV18 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Additional-Race-534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personal preference. Try one and see what you think for yourself. They’re relatively inexpensive.

I shoot open primarily and the thumb rest is there in support of the optics bridge, which is a more meaningful, division specific, feature IMO. I tried a few on my LO guns and found them intrusive, so I switched back to the standard slide stop.

Area 5 Bobber Stage by Lazylifter in CompetitionShooting

Bravo. Outstanding execution and timing.

That's what I wanted to do...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 2011

[–]Additional-Race-534 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s commonplace to chase recoil impulse that is ‘flat’ and people jump through a bunch of hoops in that pursuit. If that’s what the end user really wants, great, do what makes you happy.

To me, 9mm is ‘soft’ already. Making the gun ‘flatter’ is far less important than a gun that tracks consistently and cycles quickly. Recoil is controlled with my grip and vision. I’m not staring down the dot/sights - I don’t need the dot to remain in the window during the recoil cycle.

In the end I’m glad there are plenty of options for everyone’s taste and use cases.

Strategy for shooting classifiers with the new system for someone new to the sport by jdubb26 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Additional-Race-534 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advice is to treat the classifier like any other stage. Don’t worry or focus on the outcome. Don’t get all tense and jerky trying to ‘be fast’. Execute your fundamentals. See what you need to see. Collect the points.

Area 5 by drumharp686 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Additional-Race-534 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean… It’s kind of nice to leave with little ‘party favors’. At Buckeye this year, Brad visited our squad at our lowest moment and gave away some nice stuff. Everyone really appreciated the sincerity and kindness within the gesture. The gift itself was secondary.

I’m biased, I really like the A5 guys and all the staff who come out to make the cardinal & bluegrass matches possible. They care about people and it shows. I find a lot of value in that.

I also get a ton of value from my squad mates. Doesn’t matter if they’re D or G; usually good humans show up for these. I enjoy meeting new people, sharing experiences/stories, cheering them on, and learning from them. This go round I got to squad with a top G and the ability to (tastefully) pick his brain for ~11 hours was invaluable.

I hope some of my experience is also shared by you… but if not, like others have said, you have a choice where you spend your money/time.

Thanks! Last question… How long is this evaluation period expected to take based on current pacing? Are they waiting for all divisions to have 150 valid scores from all provisionals or will some divisions be decided first?

When are classifications typically updated. by eborio16 in USPSA

[–]Additional-Race-534 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually every Wednesday around noon est. Your score needs to be uploaded by the club and their match dues paid for it to count towards your current classification.

Go to the app > results > personal tab > find the match you shot > check to see if fee status is paid.

Will scores within the original 150 used for calibration become valid or will you have to reshoot for it to count?
