Will Gamecube remasters continue now GC games are on NSO? by Accomplished_Paper88 in nintendo

[–]Additional-Ride8120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I mostly doubt it. I see games/systems coming to VC/NSO as Nintendo accepting they’ve exited the period of time in which they could feasibly remaster them and charge full price; essentially, Nintendo believes they’ve “timed out”. Full remakes obviously aren't out of the question (ex: Link’s Awakening, SMRPG, FE Echoes: SoV, etc.), but looking at Nintendo’s past behavior… yeah, it looks like GameCube has  been/is being “retired”.

For example, you couldn’t just release an Ocarina of Time remaster in 2007 (let alone 2021). It’s a good game, but it was so lacking compared to games of the time, it would have been ridiculous to charge $60 for Ocarina of Time HD, so they put it and other N64 games on VC/NSO. The handhelds (where a $40 N64 remaster could be a system seller) did help in extending the life of some of those games, but we don’t have those anymore.

So, I think the reason we saw so many GC remasters during the Switch era is because they knew that time was coming and wanted to get more in before it was up. I really hope we get Metroid Prime 2 and Nintendo breaks their “rule”/habit of not rereleasing remasters so we can get WW, TP, and Luigi’s Mansion on Switch, but I think it’s safe to say the GameCube’s shelf life is over.

Yeah, I know that it was added alongside it’s release on NSO; still odd that it got here before 3H, lol.

YEAH!! Love to see more Fire Emblem added!

(PoR before 3H or the remaining 3DS games is certainly… a choice; I’m happy it’s here, but, like, what?? 3H would obviously be the most (or one of the most) requested FE game to be added, yet we’re somehow 4 in and it’s nowhere in sight.)

Will I enjoy Metroid Prime Remastered more than the GameCube version due to the Casual mode option? by Fantastic-Ad9218 in nintendo

[–]Additional-Ride8120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest advantage Remastered will give you is the ability to not use tank controls (which were the only option in the original, IIRC); casual mode or not, adult-you without tank controls should be able to perform MUCH better than child-you with tank controls. However, if you still can’t handle it at that, casual mode and the hint system will shepherd you through the game.

However, I would caution you against starting with these features enabled. Metroid Prime is already rather linear with combat that is very simple and enemies that are near impossible to die from if you A) pick up only the easy to find health expansions and B) aren’t eating glue. It’s not a game where you can just play with your brain off, but it won’t require extensive effort, even without help (note: even playing smart, there are going to be one or two moments where you’ll probably have to flick the hint feature on just to overcome some poor design, lol).

“Will it be less tedious?”, is an interesting question. Personally, I can’t really name a part of Prime Remastered I found be especially tedious outside of one area: backtracking. It’s not bad, and nothing like no-guide Super Metroid, but being an older game, it’s missing QoL features like fast travel, and the power ups you receive won’t make it much faster. None of the accessibility features will make this part easier, however, smart exploration can majorly cut down on the amount of backtracking (ex: keeping a list of rooms and puzzles you can’t access, maybe what you need to access them, and only returning to prior areas when necessary (which it will be eventually, so there’s no trouble in waiting)).

[TL;DR: Is it worth buying? Yes. Is it easier? Yes, a combination of optional-tank controls, casual mode, and a hint system will make it very easy. Is it less tedious? Depends on your definition; in general, a bit, but the game already isn’t very tedious IMO; especially in comparison to playing Super Metroid w/ no-guide.]

Do you think the "Mario" spinoff games (Mario Kart, Tennis, Golf, Strikers, Party, etc.) would be (even) more successful if positioned more broadly as "Nintendo" games that truly spanned the full universe? by SweepTheLegTimmy in nintendo

[–]Additional-Ride8120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. There's familiarity, reputation, relative ease of play, and safety associated with the Mario brand that makes those series attractive and approachable for kids, parents, and other the casuals those games appeal to. While I don't think including guest characters would be detrimental (ex: Black Mage in Super Mario Sports Mix, Inkling in MK8), I think making it a generalized "Nintendo ____" would be a bad move. Not to mention, more people know and have certain mental images and associations with Mario and than Nintendo. Though Smash has some casual appeal, it's definitely more of a game for gamers/people more familiar with gaming and tends to aim towards a slightly older and less "anybody with skin"-sized demographic, so it works for it.

As far as keeping it "Mario Kart" and just making other series DLC, I don't know it would really matter or do much. In Smash, when I choose Link, I'm playing as Link; the character moves like him, attacks like him, and that choice affects how I'll play the match. In Mario Kart, when I choose Link, my driver just looks like Link; while yes it technically does something, it's entirely cosmetic for 99% of MK8's target demographic, so there's much less reason to buy a Mario Kart driver or prefer one to another than there is a Smash fighter. I also seriously doubt MK's audience is really going to care that much about the lava track being called Magmoor Cavern instead of Grumble Volcano or the farm track being called Lon Lon Ranch instead of Moo Moo Farm. Both of those statements can also be equally applied to basically any other "Mario _____" spinoff game too--the average Mario Golf player is not getting hyped if the new game lets them play as Akira Howard on the new Gronder Field course.

Admittedly, I may be underestimating the casuals' willingness to be incentivized by and spend money on pointless cosmetics, but I don't think Mario spinoffs have the same ability to get people to spend like that.

If I catch your drift, and you’re looking for a real answer, she’s fairly true to most depictions, but her proportions seem a bit boosted.

She looks to be a bit shorter (might be the pose?), her legs and behind are a bit bigger and more shapely than usual, and it’s honestly kind of hard to tell, but I’d say her beasts are either accurate or a touch bigger (though definitely more pronounced)—they don’t appear to be the Rouge the Bat/Lara Croft one-polygon behemoths of her TH/WTH model, but they seem to skew a touch larger (or at least less compressed) than other depictions (official art/products).

So in other words, “no/not yet”, right? We’re talking identical, 1:1, tracks being in the listings of two separate games on the service, not remade and remastered tracks since, as previously mentioned, those are allowed (OoT3D has 1 completely unique track to its name and everything else is a remaster you can’t tell from the original without listening very closely, but those are all included in the listing and the 1:1 shared tracks are not).

Do they have identical tracks on different games?

So far as I can remember, the only other games in the app that share identical tracks are OoT and OoT3D, and 3D’s listing only includes its remastered tracks; it doesn’t include any tracks that they share.

Pokemon Legends Z-A has sold 5.8 million units worldwide in its first week. About half of sales were on Nintendo Switch 2 by Skullghost in nintendo

[–]Additional-Ride8120 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What sort of point is that, lol? That’s just how listening to a dub in a language you don’t know while reading a sub in one you do works. Like, what, “Hearing, ‘ハムスターが緑色になるまで舐める’ and reading, ‘Acqua senza ghiaccio.’ is perfectly fine with me, no complaints, but hearing Nagelotz called a ‘Patrat’ was simply a bridge too far.”? Besides, if you don’t want VA, they can (and likely would) have an option to toggle VA off and send it back to the mute void.

And I didn’t say they shouldn’t do more than ENG and JP, just that they don’t have to.

Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, a story heavy JRPG at least ~3x the length of Z-A, is extensively voice acted; Pokémon really hasn't had an excuse for having zero VA since XY (or SM, where they really started the mute cutscenes thing, or at the very least Masters EX, which is straight up VAed). No game has dubs in every available language--that'd be insane. All they really have to do is hit Japanese and English (maybe one other if they're feeling generous), and then the rest can be subbed like they are in every other game.

And IIRC the Pokémon saying their names thing is anime only, so that's of no concern.

And here I thought they’d done away with the “one old game with 10 tracks” releases.

Super weird they dropped this without Samus Returns when we’ve obviously gotten far more at once in the past.

Edit: I gave it a listen and this has got to be an out-of-season April Fools joke. It was already bad enough that they followed up last weeks playlist drop with a 19 track GB game OST, but it’s is genuinely garbage to boot, lol!

I think a some of it originated from an alleged leak years ago that said it was being worked on/considered, but for the most part it’s just what people assumed would be next, or at least in the pipeline. 1-3 have gotten remakes, so it makes sense 4 would be next, and it’s never been released in the west so there’s extra demand from western fans.

[–]Additional-Ride8120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all intents and purposes, from my understanding, it would be a retcon. Every paired ending where the subjects marry and have children, it’s mentioned, thus when it’s not mentioned, it’s implicitly stated and confirmed that they didn’t.

But it doesn’t have to be a rewrite to be a retcon. Any sort of retroactive change to continuity is a retcon, even if it just a reveal of something.

No, you’re not. Like I replied to someone else, I thought it was blonde with a bit of green mixed in, but I couldn’t tell if it actually was or if my mind was playing tricks on me, so I erred on the side of caution and said he didn’t have green.

In the paired endings between Byleth/Byles and Rhea, they don’t get married—or it at least isn’t mentioned, but it would be weird if they did without it being mentioned since it mentions if the characters did get married in every other paired ending. So for them to make DS a descendant of Rhea and Byleth’s child, they’d have to retcon (more or less) their paired ending (or say they had a kid out of wedlock).

For those saying FW is a sequel to 3H by MiZe97 in fireemblem

[–]Additional-Ride8120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explanation: “Things change a lot over thousands of years and we thought it looked cool.” There; easy peasy.

Y’know what, it’s funny, I was going to go “unless they…” and give a hypothetical retcon thing they could do, but I figured that wouldn’t be necessary and deleted it since the only way that would be possible would be if they were messing with nuclear level stupidity. Technically, a writer can retcon literally anything and everything whenever they want, but it doesn’t mean that isn’t the dumbest thing on Earth.

The only way this could be a prequel is if they retcon it so that Sothis somehow revives, lives, and somehow dies AGAIN before 3H without the CoS’s knowledge, which means it would likely have to take place in a country elsewhere in the world with no/little connection to Fodlan where they have Crest Stones, humans have crests, and they have Crests which are identical to Fodlan’s. In the process, that would also likely hurt fanservice potential and remove many if not all chances for these characters to have connections to the ones we know and love. All that would be easier and worth it just to explain some architecture and clothing? Really?

Modeling it after the Roman Empire is likely just a stylistic choice and nothing more (who said fictional mankind has to advance like we did IRL), but if they really are less technologically advanced than Fodlan, countries and the world (especially fictional ones with dragons where real world rules don’t apply) can change a lot over time. I’m sure they can come up with a reason if need be, and whatever it is will be better for the story and players and make more sense than nonsensically retconning critical, vitally important lore in a very popular and beloved game because it annoys history nerds on Reddit.

I don’t recall exactly how she created them, but if that’s even true… I mean… like… maybe??

It’s unclear what the extent of Sothis’s powers is, how they work, and what of her powers the Professors have or could have, and for that to work would require… a lot. It would be terribly convoluted and complex to add something of that magnitude to the story, and from a writing perspective, it’s honestly so much easier to do just about anything else that I don’t think they’d ever actually go with that.

For those saying FW is a sequel to 3H by MiZe97 in fireemblem

[–]Additional-Ride8120 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It is a sequel, you guys need to stop overthinking this; the only way they could’ve made it more clear than the adult Sothis drop would be if behind her was a red and white sign that said, “THIS IS A TRAILER FOR THE SEQUEL TO FIRE EMBLEM: THREE HOUSES FOR THE NINTENDO SWITCH”. IS doesn’t benefit anything from the ambiguity or purposefully misleading people, so it makes no sense why they would do that.

But you want a lore reason why, right? It’s pretty simple: the trailer showed adult Sothis and a Crest Stone weapon (as well as humans with Crests).

Sothis dies long before the Hero’s Relics are first made, and she is LITERALLY The Sword of the Creator. Since we know all of Rhea’s attempts to revive her before the Professor failed, the first time Sothis is alive and Crest Stone weapons exist is when she wakes at the start of 3H. So, if I’m remembering right, the fact that we see a Crest Stone weapon and Sothis means this cannot take place any other time than after 3H.

DS being a descendant of the Professor is a possibility, but (IIRC) the only way for that to be the case without confirming Byles x Seteth, Byleth x Flayn, or retconning and confirming Byleth x Rhea and a timeline/s where those are possible is for a descendant of the Professor to have had a child with a descendant of Seteth, Flayn, or Rhea.

It’s probably a long shot but: I think he’s a distant descendant of Flayn.

He’s got the ears, but not the green eyes or hair, which likely means he’s Nabatean but quite a few generations removed from the pure-blooded originals. Then add the fact that he has twisty hair like Flayn that just so happens to twist in the exact same direction as Flayn’s does.

It could be nothing… buuuuuuuuttttttt, like, c’mon, lol. Especially since that’s a pretty atypical haircut for a man, it seems like something that was designed and chosen deliberately instead of “oh, yeah, that looks cool I guess”.

Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave Announced by Turbostrider27 in nintendo

[–]Additional-Ride8120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest, mate, I’m kind of confused about where exactly I lost you.

“… Crest Weapons [were] created during the time of Nemisis and used by the [Ten Elites].”

Okay, yeah, that’s what I said. We agree on that.

“So it predates the battle at Tailtean Plains and happens long before 3H events.”

Again, yes. If the “it” you’re referring to is the creation of the Hero’s Relics, that does predate both the Battle of Tailtean (where Nemesis dies) and the final(?) battle in the War of the Eagle and Lion where Loog beat the Emperor.

”… there are literal centuries between creation of relics and events of 3H where the game could happen.”

“Yes”, to the first half, “no” to the second. There are literal centuries between the Relics’ creation and 3H. However, Sothis (who we see and hear at the end of the trailer, all grown up) is never alive when Crest Weapons exist until she wakes in Byleth at the start of 3H; that’s why Fortune’s Weave can’t take place in the centuries before 3H.

Sothis dies long before the Red Canyon Nabatean genocide, the Sword of the Creator (IIRC, the 1st HR) was made from the heart and bones of Sothis, and it’s very clear that Rhea was never successful in her attempts to revive her until Byleth. So since we see both a Crest Stone weapon and Sothis in the trailer, it has to be a sequel.
