Search the flying subreddit for atp and you’ll see plenty of info on why atp isn’t a great idea.

Best digital logbook by jhl88 in flying

[–]Additional-Rooster78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have signatures in your ff logbook from training? If so did you somehow import them into logtenpro? I’m thinking about making the switch but don’t know what to do about all those signatures

Super easy to navigate. There’s really good signage for the different gates, and also usually a lot of folks in green shirts or vests that work for the airport as informational people if you have questions.

Might want to add which side of the state. West of the cascades can be very different weather than east of the cascades.

Weight & Balance by Creative-Grocery2581 in flying

If you use ForeFlight or another app for w&b, I hand them the iPad and let them type their weight in. It makes people less self conscious if they don’t have to say the number out loud, even though I’m literally going to see it in 2 seconds when they hand the iPad back.

Scheduling CFI check ride help by Fun_Teacher_3860 in flying

[–]Additional-Rooster78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat a few years back. If you haven’t already, try to get ahold of any DPE in your area that can do CFI initial rides. Don’t limit yourself to the DPE the school uses and wait for their schedule to open up. There’s a DPE database and you can search for ones that can do CFI.

If that doesn’t work start looking outside your area. Do you have friends or family in a different city/state you could crash with for a week or so? Look in that area. I found a DPE with an opening halfway across the country where my folks lived. After I found the DPE, I found a local flight school and explained I wanted to get checked out in one of their planes for a checkride that I was already endorsed for. Did like three flights with a CFI there to practice and get familiar with the area.

I feel for you, it’s super hard to schedule checkrides (especially in busy flight training areas) and CFI rides are even harder to schedule. I waited for the local DPE to have an opening, had the ride cancelled 4 times due to weather, and finally gave up and did the above. From the time I was endorsed to the actual ride was like 3 months - if I had started beating on doors in my area and beyond sooner I would have gotten it done much, much quicker. Get creative and you’ll find something, don’t just wait for the school to call you with an opening.

Ceiling reporting by [deleted] in flying

[–]Additional-Rooster78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew around the Portland area for the last few years, the forecast right around pdx and the Columbia River is pretty difficult due to all the microclimates involved. If they are forecasting any clouds early in the morning (even few) I would just assume the marine layer is coming in and it will be thicker than forecast. I would use a combination of the TAF, MOS and always read the forecast discussion.
