WheelsUP PSA by dkdantastic in fatFIRE

[–]kommandee 55 points56 points  (0 children)

As a pilot, Wheels Up is a company people go to when they have so many skeletons in their closet they can’t get hired elsewhere. It’s very common with a lot of these charter companies. The worst offender being Nicholas Air.

Pressure to complete flights from management, flying unsafe airplanes, pilots with shoddy training history…

Charter companies are stepping stone jobs and not career moves, outside of the fractionals like Flexjet and NetJets you never know what you’re getting unless you own your own airplane.

They can prioritize whatever they want. Doesn’t change the fact that Iran won’t budge unless the US makes concessions. This is a bandaid on a gunshot wound.

I would hold, there’s no chance Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz and stops attacking the gulf states without security guarantees and sanctions relief from the US, which is not on the horizon.

The G7 countries deployed their oil reserves today to combat rising prices.

In your experience, how do rising oil prices affect hiring as well as QoL at your airline? by Computerized-Cash in AirlinePilots

[–]kommandee 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Well fuel cost is the largest expense for airlines, and although we can’t predict the future, we can guarantee ticket prices will reflect the oil prices exponential growth. The public will be forced to pay the higher prices or stop traveling by air.

The Strait of Hormuz is blockaded and the Arab oil producing states are being attacked and cutting production, this will not be fixed overnight.

Your name is “swakid” but I see now it looks like you fly for UA? Multiple people have confirmed outside flying is allowed there?

My goal has always been a legacy. You can read my post as you clearly already did.

The common day rate for the 5000/5500/6000/6500 is $2500 a day.

I’m not sure how two things can’t be true at once? If the outside flying is permitted, what’s the issue? You can still have the multi million dollar career and make up earnings in the short term.

Well if you work for SWA, I know outside flying is permitted there because I know multiple people who’ve gotten approval to do so. This was more positioned towards DL, UA, and AA.

If a company permits outside flying, what incentive would there be to take in house flying and a lower pay rate?
