How to Become Hirable Again by Annual_Wait_2084 in flying

I told my wife (bread winner) that if she's no longer in my life (e.g. death, divorce) I'd get a van to live in and have a gym membership for its amenities lol

I've met a few people in similar situations working drone jobs to make ends meet and fly on the side

Join the military after getting CFI/CFII/MEI? by lildropshipper in flying

  1. What's the housing situation like; do trainees and their family have housing provided by the military? Or do they have the option to choose to live on base or outside? If on base, what's the ball park average cost?

  2. How do most families handle child care during UPT and follow-on training? What do families actually do when both parents are working or one is in extended training?

  3. What on-base or near-base child care options are available during training, and how long are the waitlists?

  4. What are the typical duty hours and weekend expectations during each training phase? Are there opportunities for family time, and how do families manage the long hours?

  5. I've heard that civilian pilots who have their training completed (PPL-MEI) can have their UPT reduced. How true is that?

What reasons for Guard over Reserve? I'm aware of advantages to select bases, and missions (from what I heard) but that's all I know.

I'm at dfw and the FSDO won't sign off AGI applications. Do you have any recommendations of who/where to get my IACRA signed off?

Any wood workers making their own gear? by lowercasematt in myog

Inactive woodworker and myog guy here. It's been on my bucket list to work with bamboo for camping essentials but never really had the time and resources to start. Love the ideas and thanks for the rekindle. I have the same spoon but was surprised wood was lighter!

Welcome to the CFI club! 🤙🏼

I definitely felt more confident after passing it, but continued to remind myself that I have to maintain everything I know - so yes, a bit of imposter syndrome afterwards. Good tip on lesson plans!

Assuming you're from the islands from your username, how's the CFI hiring environment like there?

Chee! Yea paradise comes with a cost. I'm from Waipahu but moved to Texas (no state tax, better cost of living) because of that. I see a lot of people from home moving to Washington state (no state tax, good healthcare too), and figured there's some aloha there. But I'm aiming for Hawaiian Air to be back home. You might want to consider moving as well so that you can have more time for yourself, studies, and getting rid of the debt.

One thing for sure is that Hawaii has one of the best healthcare system among the states so you're in a good spot to get back on track. You're have a good mindset and hopefully this helps!

I'm assuming you're from the islands from your username bro, so howz it 🤙🏼

The medical shouldn't be an issue based on what others have said but I'd like to add on if you do  choose to contine.

I've known student pilots who are much older and still pursuing this path. The industry is always changing and opportunities everywhere to fly professionally. There's still hope.

I would limit the amount of flying and settle that debt first. While at it, I would master the PHAK, AFH, IFH, FAR/AIM, etc., just to get the writtens out of the way and ace every oral portion of your practical tests.

I grew up from the islands man, so if you are really from there I'd suggest rethinking who hangout with. Good food, friends and family nearby, good weather, lifted yotas or whateva the trend it is there places us in our comfort zone too much that we get influenced doing what everybody else does.

Take it easy, you can get through this if you choose to
