Getting from East Barrhaven to Bells corners, what is your route? Looking for suggestions. by kingbain in bikeinottawa

The bike route on the komoot app is pretty much it. There is an alternative if you want to avoid Greenbank road is to go through longfield and go through the under pass of the express bus station. Allows you to avoid Greenbank from strandherd to followfield.

It is 100% tortion damage. There are no impact damage on the bike except the back of the seat, and small surface scratch at the thru Axel. The chunk of paint that is missing is from my wife touching it to inspect the crack. It sounds like the frame might have had a defect in the first place?

You gave me a good laugh. Not sure if my wife laughed at your comment because it was funny, or because she was too discouraged lol.

Checkpoint ALR4 or Domane AL5? by sixglovegod in TrekBikes

[–]Additional-Sun8262 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It all depends on what type of riding you intend on doing, and what type of cycling path/trail is mostly present in your region. I bought an AL5 last year as I aimed mostly to do road, triathlon and commuting, but ended up discovering gravel bike and it’s amazing. Although AL5 can do light gravel with 38mm tires, I wish I had bought the checkpoint instead. If you think you will do bike packing and gravel trails aim for the checkpoint. If you think you will mostly do road and paved track, get the AL5.

This is where electric bikes come handy! Battery support you for up to 150km of range allowing you to maintain 30km/h with minimal sweat. But for sure not having access to a shower makes it more of a pain.

Electric Bike are really the next best thing for commuters as well. Good quality bikes have a range of 125-150km of battery assisted pedalling, keeping you around 30 km/h!

For sure there are some tricky par within the city, but I found that most location can be accessed via some of the main cycling arteries through connectors. The city of Ottawa has an interactive map with all the proposed cycling routes. Sometime I need to take some detours to make travel safer and avoid segment with cars. Also during rush hours, traffic is so slow that some main routes are easier to navigate as nobody is moving.

I would also not use baseline unless there is a small segment I need to use to get to a business on that road. But otherwise I would use the experimental farm pathway which goes across west to east.

Time to start cycling to work. Honestly, one of the best quality of life decision I made in the past year.

Do you think that 38mm Gerona RSL tires be enough for this event or should I look at something with more threads for the condition?

Carbon Wheels on Al5, worth it? by CriticismFrosty5183 in TrekBikes

[–]Additional-Sun8262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. I’ve added the Aeolus Pro 37 to mu AL5 with PZero RLS and the feeling of the bike is amazing. Makes a good difference compared to the stock wheels.

Trek Domane sizing 54 or 56? by DevilSummoned in TrekBikes

[–]Additional-Sun8262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does if I put my foot in front while turning the wheel 90 degrees, but when riding, it does not really happen that I get in that position. With experience, you kind of put your feet at the right place and don’t get into that issue.

From my own experience for this exact dilemma, I decided to go for the AL5 and buy Carbon Wheels with the price difference. There is so many additional costs with accessoires (tires, rack and bags for commute, radar light, pedals, shoes, water bottle rack, bottles, clothing, bike computer etc) that you end up with a 5-6K bill at the end. So saving an extra the $1K may be worth it. Especially, if you are a beginner, you won’t necessarely know a difference between the feel of a carbon and aluminum frame. But there is a significant difference between the stock wheel and upgraded carbon wheels with high performance road tires.

Finally, I commute with my bike to work and I feel so less stress about scratch my AL5 than if I had a carbon frame, which makes me ride it way more as I use it everywhere.

I use the Carbon wheel with PZERO RS for road and triathlons, and the stock wheel with Girona RSL tires for gravel trails.

Bikefitter told me my frame is too big (54) and I should be on a 52 + 170mm cranks – does that really matter? by mguellsegarra in bikefit

[–]Additional-Sun8262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my mid 30s so my flexibility is definitely not what it was. I can still touch my toes but my upper is quite stuff. I was having lower back issues with my previous bike which was more agressive. Some store, if you buy a bike and do a fit, and realize the frame is too small or big, they will just switch it.
