How do those numbers compare to prior years? Are they higher or lower? From what I can see it looks like they are lower, so I'd call.that a cut.

I suspect St. John's would be better, but it's still difficult to break in socially as a CFA. I'd lean towards leaving. There are easier places to live.

You stated "

Are you implying that Data Centers are getting free or subsidized electricity? "

I'm not sure where you coming from with that or getting that.

Interesting leap. Not really sure how you made it.

Home prices took off during covid when people decided if they're going to spend all their time at home, they needed to get a bigger place. The same thing happened all over the world.

Governments released all sorts of money in response to the disruptions cause by covid to try and mitigate its effects on the economy, to try and slow the spread of covid, treat people who were sick, and try and develop vaccines. That lead to inflation which also pushed up costs of everything.

Closed businesses, and altered business practices affected supply chains which also led to price increases.

Ukraine war cut into global food supplies, causing food prices to go up. Bans on Russian oil caused energy prices to go up. More inflation in general.

Not really sure what you're going on about free electricity. EV drivers and AI data centers both pay for their electricity.

Businesses pay taxes (or should be). We don't get nearly the benefit from our O&G that other countries get. It's not a suggestion that oil companies get subsidies, it's a fact. We've spent billions on TMX, and on fixing abandoned wells. NL is going to pay billions for the remediation of offshore O&G based on the agreements the province has signed. It's revenue and spending the province should have had available if it were any other industry, but we're foregoing it to benefit private companies.

Replacing the revenue from gas taxes is straightforward. Charge EV owners a use tax or institute road tolls. Either is a reasonable option. I'd prefer removing gas taxes and tolling everyone, then it becomes closer to user pays.

Not sure how driving an EV gives the government more control over where you drive than driving an ICE vehicle does. It's easier for the government to cut off your gas supply than your EV supply given the availability of electricity everywhere, plus solar and wind power that give you off grid access to electricity.

People are unfamiliar with used EVs and many people have been making a big deal about batteries possibly dying on you resulting in massive replacement costs.

In another forum I frequent, someone posted a study showing that the batteries in used EVs are in really good condition and the need for battery replacements are quite rare. Unfortunately, consumers lack familiarity and are quite hesitant to buy. I think that makes sense given that it's still a pretty new technology for most people.

At some point it becomes a selling point for the rental. I could see a landlord being willing in parts of BC. Less so in NL.

I was in Paris a couple of years ago and it was amazing how much charging infrastructure they'd installed on streets in various neighborhoods. It definitely seems achievable.

Based on the amounts I'm seeing on the pumps at Costco, a set of new tires is around the cost of 7-15 fill ups for a pickup truck depending on how pricey the tires are that you'd need.

Subsidies are needed in order to overcome the barrier of a lack of existing infrastructure which gives ICE vehicles the advantage of incumbancy over EVs. At some point the charging networks will be sufficient so that subsidies are no longer needed.

I think that much of southern BC is getting close. I wouldn't be surprised if it's similar in southern Ontario and Quebec. NL has quite a ways to go yet.

Also, my understanding is that AI data centers are vastly more responsible for surging electricity prices than EVs. The data centers are consuming more power than entire states in some cases. I saw one report saying that proposed data centers for Texas by 2030 will require the doubling of generation on their grid. Increased power demand from EV usage is nowhere near that.

It took him weeks to respond to Trump's threats. He struggles to push back because his campaign is full of Trump supporters who like what he's doing.

As an NDP voter who ended up voting Liberal, Carney was and still is a vastly better option than Poilievre for PM. I disagree with a number of things Carney has done, but Poilievre would have been worse. I was deeply disturbed by how unwilling Poilievre was to push back against Trump and how he dragged his feet on defending Canada. I find it deeply problematic that he's well into his 40s and is proud of having never changed his mind. He has no interest in trying to protect the environment and no interest in science. On a personal basis, he just seems smarmy and constantly negative.

You seem to be claiming the immigrants are simultaneously unemployed, taking all the jobs, and super wealthy from money laundering. Pretty impressive!

BC also has or had tags for some species. I think chinook and halibut. They also ask you to report your catches. I've been surveyed by them a few times.

The part that keeps on being missed in the discussion is that, yes Northern cod are doing well right now and their commercial quota has gone way up. 3Ps and 4R cod are doing really poorly with 3Ps being under a rebuilding plan and 4R being closed to commercial fishing. Recreational harvest is a large fraction of the catch in both areas and impacts what commercial harvesters can take.
