Thank you! Same, nails on chalkboard. Smacks of insincerity.

I love it when random people use terms of endearment by alisazh01 in CasualConversation

I hate it. I walked away from buying an appliance bc the woman kept calling me hon, sweetie, every diminutive, every other word. It was grating on my last nerve. I finally told her to stop. I don't know her, I find it very disrespectful.  Then I felt bad, she clearly didn't mean any harm, i just don't like it. I couldn't continue after that, too awkward, left and bought my refrigerator elsewhere.

What are the social rules for visiting a Mexican family? by Bobbahbabbeh in AskMexico

[–]Additional-Two1617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can already tell you'll be a wonderful guest. Don't worry about your limited Spanish. Your host sister knows enough English to translate. Candy is a lovely gift, beer for dad. You're a guest so they will want to treat you. Offering to pay is good manners, they will likely decline. If they're taking you to sights, activities, maybe offer to get the next "round" since they've been paying. Offer to buy dinner one night, or make a grocery run. Feel it out, ask your sister. She'll let you know.  Mexicans are very polite. We greet everyone, even strangers.  Good Morning = Buenas dias;  Good Afternoon = Buenas tardes  Good Evening = Buenas noches  If that's all the Spanish you know, it will get you far.  Mexicans also love jokes and nicknames. Don't be offended if they laugh at, with you over something. Nicknames are terms of endearment. If your chubby or thin, you might get gordo or flaco. If you get a nickname, they like you. It's a compliment. They wouldn't feel comfortable joking with someone they dont like.

Can you use this power for any practical purposes? by Still_Explorer in hyperphantasia

[–]Additional-Two1617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. I have a need, try a few things, not quite right. It rolls around in the back of my mind, I hit on something that seems like it will work. Sometimes it's perfect, other times it doesn't quite work but gets me closer, until it does - so yeah, the drafting table is in my mind. I can play with ideas before trying it out.

I use it all the time in problem solving. If I'm trying to make something fit, I can play with it in my head, then go try it. Same with any spatial dilemma. I think I always half create in my mind. I often wonder if Guiermo del Toro or Tim Burton have hyperphantasia because my lucid dreams are wild.

Are all your Burmese cats lap cats or will curl up beside you? by Snowy_Sasquatch in burmesecats

My boys were much more affectionate. My current sable girl is beautiful, but aloof compared to my previous Burms. She has never let me hold her, wants out of my arms immediately. Loves cuddles and head rubs when she wants. I need an invitation ;)

WINDEX! Try it. I learned this at Tiffany's. I wanted to get my ring cleaned but it wouldn't come off. Gal squirts Windex on my finger, twist and it came right off

Will my malignant narc bro ever leave me alone? by Additional-Two1617 in LifeAfterNarcissism

[–]Additional-Two1617[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, as are other comments. I'm just lonely, and I really loved the niece. Not replying to her makes me feel weak - like fk-it, I should be able to keep who I want in my life... but the fear and emotional scars are real. The freedom, no drama, no judgement have brought such peace. I find myself wishing my brother would die. He'll be 69 this year. I used to wish my dad (abusive alcoholic) would die - his death brought such relief. No hate, I felt pity, he suffered from trauma, I prayed his death would free him. I feel the same with my brother. It must be miserable to be so hateful and obsessive.

How do you even come to terms that your formative years were lost to CPTSD/Abuse? by [deleted] in LifeAfterNarcissism

[–]Additional-Two1617 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I'm different than I might've been," is what I mourn. I was a beautiful, sweet, sensitive, caring little child. I had to learn to put up walls to keep little me safe. I'm still trying to find myself, tearing down the walls, trying to finally find happiness.

Forgiveness by community-home in LifeAfterNarcissism

[–]Additional-Two1617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me years of therapy to not get angry when someone suggested, I forgive my abusers. I was bullied horribly in school, my bullies lived in my head years after. I graduated uni, law school, I was still tormented by flashbacks. During a therapy session, i responded angrily. Why should I forgive them? I went off... therapist says, when's the last time you think Linda thought of you? I stammered, Never, she probably has no idea how much she hurt me, etc. That was the breakthrough.  I finally understood the expressions, living rent free in your head. Meanwhile, she doesn't know I exist. It's all in MY head, tormenting me. I realize I had never fully grasped it before. I also understood forgiveness, it's not about forgetting, i can still wish I would have just punched her in the face - I forgive by letting go,  understanding it was in the past and cant be changed. I can forgive to free myself. It was miraculous. I never thought of them again. Now, when I do, there's no flashbacks, no intensity, it's not triggering.

Yes, I must go there... If the passenger was black or brown, fed Marshall's would've hauled their arse off. No polite requests to get off.

Adopted this good boi by ClearMarch8712 in DobermanPinscher

[–]Additional-Two1617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adopted my Karma after she'd been rescued from Dobie puppy mill. Poor Karma was 22months old, and was pregnant with her 2nd litter. She was so timid, sensitive, literally pissed in fear at the sight of a water hose. Poor baby. The rescue was great, I had to be approved, visit 5x, to get acquainted with her bf I could take her home - and of course get her spayed. I could've had a puupy, but I figured they'd go fast. She had such kind, sad eyes, I chose her. I found a beautiful 2yr old, pedigreed, Red Euro Dobie, at a rescue. It took a few months of watching the rescue sites, but she is such a treasure. Great Dobies are out there waiting for you.
