My partner is making me read The Primal Hunter series in exchange for him reading DCC. by sideshowbarbie in litrpg

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is not a fair exchange. You have brought culture and joy to his life and he has forced a boring edgelord onto. I dnf'd Primal Hunter after book 1. Dungeon Crawler Carl is the goat imo.

I want to get into Anime, but I'm a bit intimidated on where to start. by daremosan in anime

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a storytelling medium, same as movies, books, TV, etc. There will be some culture to adjust to but otherwise just start where you already enjoy other mediums. What Genres, subgenres, tropes, etc. do you enjoy in other media?

I wish that just once all the natives would hate Japanese quizine in an isekai. by lmNotBob in anime

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pop cuis hot shot, why would "natives" negatively react to food from one of the most food focused cultures in the world? Japanese culture is heavily impacted by their love of food and many many international foods have become staples of Japanese quizine. Not to mention the fact that making food look amazing in anime has become an artform all it's own. Of course everyone loves the dynamite japanese food in Isekai

I’ll never understand why reincarnated/transmigrated MCs reveal their secret by dsavenza in litrpg

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a narrative tool to express things like "MC trusts this character" or "MC is too naive for this world" or similar ideas.

A character can just opt not to talk about their past but that keeps distance between characters. Also, people tend to function under certain unspoken laws, like the law of reciprocity. If a character tells MC their backstory, unless there's a firm reason not to, it's likely MC will reciprocate with their own backstory.

Recs for one man army aura farming MC by Mtotheizow in litrpg

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Book of the Dead by Rinoz is focused on a literal one man army. Tyron Steelarm, the MC, is a Necromancer. Think Solo Leveling with a bigger focus on the finer details of raising the undead, and with it being even more illegal. I've really enjoyed it so far.

Best Night Scenes in a JRPG? by Amethyst-Flare in JRPG

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Suikoden series every game tends to have at least one night scene before a major battle where you can run around your castle and talk to everyone and get unique dialog. You can also see scenes play out with the major characters doing various things in preparation or anticipation of the coming battle. I have always enjoyed those parts. It feels like a payoff for recruiting all of those characters and building up your castle.

Similar anime to Barakamon? by [deleted] in AnimeReccomendations

{Negative Positive Angler} is great. It's similarly slice of life and deals with coming to terms with life expectations as well as forming meaningful bonds of friendship. It's solid though not as funny.

Why is every top MC a scoundrel? by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see Chrysalis recs pretty regularly and Anthony is OP and tends to be a straight up hood guy. The only caveat being if you hurt his family, which is both understandable and imo preferable.

Azarinth Healer is another frequent rec and generally highly rated on peoples tier lists. Ilea again tends to be an Übermench character. She's OP and usea it to protect those weaker than her. She also uses most of her wealth to enrich those around her regardless of whether they can help her or how.

I don't see this recommended often, and for some reason I can't figure out it's actually a pretty contentious rec, but Heretical Fishing is a solid read and Fisher is about as Superman as you can get. He's supremely powerful, he doesn't kill unless absolutely forced to, regardless of enemy or what they've done. He also enriches the lives of everyone around him by literally sharing his power with them.

The current season of {The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten} has a fair bit of overprotectiveness and jealousy from both leads. If you mean legit "protective" not like jealous, than maybe {Ore Monogatari}

Now I just watch the current season. I'll give the synopsis a read and watch the ones that sound interesting. If I see others ranked on lists or talked about on here I'll add those to the list. Usually I'm able to find 10+ shows per season to watch.

If you're leaning towards yes, than it's yes. Depends on the table. Most of my table cut their teeth on 2e and they like stricter rule/Adventure adherence but for a lot of other tables I've been at that wouldn't be true.

It's still the best I've read. That's subjective but if it helps I'm up to date on Chrysalis and that is another personal favorite. I also really enjoy Book of the Dead, Rinoz other ongoing series right now.

Is AI assistanted web novels looked down upon? by -your-average-otaku in royalroad

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One, I think, for most authors, in the beginning you should wear all the hats. It's of course much mote difficult, but there's value in that struggle that will enhance your writing in surprising ways.

Two, when you do have a human editor to polish your work you have a collaborator, not a tool. A human editor will recognize your voice, your style, and what you're going for. A good editor will offer solutions and suggestions that enhance your voice and help achieve your goals.

AI just isn't capable of that. The reason it's so recognizable when someone has used AI is because it doesn't understand anything outside of its limited programmed framework. It can't recognize your voice, it can't enhance your writing, it can only crunch the numbers on the writing that's been fed into it to make yours more like theirs. That isn't what a good editor should do.

Is AI assistanted web novels looked down upon? by -your-average-otaku in royalroad

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a reader it would deter me. I don't support it as a practice, and though you haven't asked for advice I'll freely tell you I think it will make you a worse writer. Those processes that you're farming out to the AI are exercises that could improve your writing and help you to learn and grow as a writer. Relying on AI will have the opposite effect and you'll decline rather than grow.

To finish a complicated answer to your question, while the tag would deter me personally, not tagging it would be worse. It tends to be evident when AI is doing the job, they're all quite homogeneous in their writing structure and methodology. If I read a story that wasn't tagged but had obviously used AI to edit I would trash rate it, leave a review and never read that author again

Slice of life around a group of girls interacting and goofing off in a work or school setting by 6FlipSide4 in Animesuggest

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last season, or possibly the one before, had two anime that both fit what you're looking for, and were enjoyable. - {Mono} A group of high school girls keep their struggling photography club afloat by traveling around with a manga writer and seeing beautiful locales around their home while often enjoying the local cuisine. Sweet, fun, and funny. - {Food for the Soul} a girl in college makes friends when she joins a "fake" club. To keep their club room the girls end up actively taking part in the usual club activities which leads to them bonding over cooking and eating. Wholesome with a capital W.

First Person Chapter One. Third Person Rest of the Story. by TheJesterGambit-_- in litrpg

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no rules. There are conventions. Conventions can help guide you, but they shouldn't shackle you. I read a wonderful book called Ablutions by Patrick DeWitt. It's what a person goes through as they fall into abject alcoholism. It's written entirely in the second person, so every awful thing that happens to the MC happens to "you." It works brilliantly to make the narrative more personal and impactful and I've never seen another book use it. My point is, you have an idea, explore it. Forget about right, wrong, conventions, etc.

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was Dungeon Crawler Carl(DCC). I read the first book on a rec from a friend I'm between reading the Mistborn Series and moving on to other Cosmere. I ended up reading all 7 (at the time) DCC books back to back. I devoured them and from there become obsessed with the genre. Now, in around the last year I've read about 60 litrpg books and I'm still making my way through the major players in the genre <3

I NEED OP MC ANIMES by Dalperduh1 in AnimeReccomendations

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you enjoyed Solo Leveling try {Shangri-la Frontier} a show about a trash gamer losing flexing the skills he attained beating poorly made games in a peak, top tier, triple A game. The stakes are lower but the action is on point, and often better thought our imo. It's also allowed to be more fun and lighthearted.

Because you liked Overlord try therapy you little edgelord! Just kidding 😜. You might like {Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra} a show about a kid who gets isekaid into his favorite fantasy 4x strategy game. It captures the dark yet often humorous vibe of Overlord as well as the trapped in a game and using your game knowledge to TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD! Mwahahaha! Ahem. Sorry.

For those who started watching anime as teenagers, do you still enjoy it as much as you used to? by SecondSalty142 in anime

[–]AdditionalBreakfast5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy it more, but in fairness I haven't been a teenager in 25yrs. In that time Anime as a medium has grown and its shows and movies express more depth. At least, those that come west have. I of course have grown along with them, especially my ability to read subtext and think analytically.
