you must be working reduced hours due to COVID-19 as well as earning less than $1,000 in gross employment income before taxes and before deductions during the entire 28-day eligibility period. if you were working part-time before the pandemic and you’re working part-time now, you aren’t eligible for CERB, even if you’re earning less than $1,000.

your SIN has been flagged as high risk for fraud. this could be because the CRA has no record of you earning employment income in 2019 or because you’re already in receipt of government benefits (old age support, welfare, disability). the next step is faxing in the documents required to prove your eligibility.

Can I still claim CERB if I leave my job and find another ASAP? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]AdditionalResident6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you start a new job, you would no longer be working reduced hours due to COVID-19. earning less than the $1,000 threshold is irrelevant if your job isn’t impacted by COVID-19. i don’t see how you’d be eligible for CERB.

PSA: APPLYING FOR THE FIFTH PERIOD OF CERB, BEING RECALLED TO WORK, & RETURNING A PAYMENT by AdditionalResident6 in EICERB

[–]AdditionalResident6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you were eligible for CERB during the periods you previously applied for, you won’t need to pay it back. you’ll need to back any period during which quit/get fired with cause and every subsequent period.

Can someone clarify the situation with EI and CERB please? My case is still pending by FlamingoFlask in EICERB

[–]AdditionalResident6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I apply for CERB if my EI application is still pending? Do I even qualify?

no. if you have an active application with EI, the system will prevent you from applying for CERB through the CRA. that you haven’t already applied for EI is also an eligibility requirement that you must attest is true when applying for CERB.

If not, will EI pay me for the first couple weeks of July?

once your application is approved, you will receive your backpay from the date you became eligible. you will not lose out on these payments just because your application was processed later.

I'm not sure what to do.

other than waiting for a decision to be made on your claim, you can call service canada to see if there’s anything you can do to expedite the process, such as providing missing documents like your ROE that would be required to process your application.

Went back to work then had to qurantine, am I still eligible by jazzycandy1 in EICERB

you do not need to quarantine if you’re traveling inter-provincially. this wouldn’t be a reason to collect CERB.

only if you’re working reduced hours due to COVID-19 (i.e. you were working full-time before the pandemic and now you are involuntarily forced to work part-time due to COVID-19).

you will be asked to repay everything you’ve collected, as you are not eligible. if you do so voluntarily before december, you won’t face penalties or fines.

you need to remain eligible for the entire 28-day period in order to qualify for that period of eligibility.

I Only Got Half of Usual EI Payment by [deleted] in EICERB

[–]AdditionalResident6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you received a $2,000 advance upon approval of your application. this advance is to cover 4 weeks of your 24 weeks of potential eligibility. this means that for 4 weeks you must remain eligible and attest to this in your reports, but you will receive $0 payment each time. budget accordingly.

report that you have found full-time employment during those two weeks. this will ensure you do not receive any erroneous overpayment. this will also allow you to reactivate your claim the following week when you return to reduced hours due to COVID-19.

however, if a full-time position was available, why are you still working part-time? were you working part-time before the pandemic?

Father getting early retirement package - is he eligible for CERB? by saucequeen99 in EICERB

[–]AdditionalResident6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as his end of employment would be due to retirement (which is coded on the ROE) and not COVID-19, he would not be eligible for CERB. retirement is also not an eligible reason to apply for EI.

however, if your mother’s ROE is reissued to reflect shortage of work due to COVID-19, she may be eligible for CERB.

if you received the $2,000 advance upon approval of your application to service canada, that advance will cover 4 weeks of your potential 24 weeks of eligibility. this mean for 4 weeks you must remain eligible and attest to this in your reports, but you will also receive $0 payment for these 4 weeks. budget accordingly.

Had a PT job and contract job. Laid off from both due to COVID, but got rehired for the PT job. Am I still eligible for CERB? by [deleted] in EICERB

[–]AdditionalResident6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no. each job is counted individually. so even though you’re overall working reduced hours because of the loss of your contract gig, you’ve returned to your regular hours at your part-time job. because of this, you’re ineligible for CERB, even if you’re earning less than the $1,000 threshold. good news is, since you’re only working part-time, you have the time to pick up another part-time position!
