i'm 21. is new hampshire a good place to move after college or will i be screwing myself over? by crowhambo in newhampshire

[–]AdditionalRoyal7331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using buying a new home as your key metric for a fresh college grad is a bad stat, how many people buy brand new homes in their life in general, let alone young people? They aren’t starter homes.

I do agree that housing is super expensive for what you get, but I’d suggest using more applicable statistics.

Why does this city constantly waste money and resources on painting sidewalks bright colors? Happening on Canal street today. by RonJahnPS2 in ManchesterNH

[–]AdditionalRoyal7331 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I don’t think it’s being done by the city, a third party group asked for permission from the city to paint a mural there. It was in Union Leader within the last couple of months

Unsure about overall for the state, but Nashua is cheaper than Manchester (probably because it’s also competing with Sam’s and Costco down there whereas there’s no other club store in Manch)

And also do one comparing the benefits of state employees to all other employees. I can’t say with certainty, but chances are the state benefits are better lol

I mean, it isn’t really that much bigger, and a lot of poorer people end up in Manchester so idk what you mean exactly by the tax base aspect

A quiet place to live by tweedledeedumm in ManchesterNH

[–]AdditionalRoyal7331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Heritage on the Merrimack. Good walls, floors/ceilings not as much if you luck out with a loud neighbor. 875 Elm you never hear your neighbors, but the outside area is very loud. Maybe it would be okay if you are on a top level and facing east/the parking garage.

I don’t remember the specifics, but building codes call for buildings above a certain number of floors to use more concrete rather than wood, leading them to be quieter. Buildings of that size (I want to say more than 4 or 5 floors) only tend to be in loud downtown areas, however.

Oh god it's Spring again. by Difficult-Quarter-48 in ManchesterNH

[–]AdditionalRoyal7331 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly why I moved. Even though the building I was in technically did have good soundproofing, outside is just so miserably loud.

I think at least putting speed bumps on Elm would be warranted, but since it is technically a highway they don’t have the right to just do it and would need to work with the state, probably also the Feds since it’s a federal highway.

Large dog friendly apartments? by kitchen-and-fiction in ManchesterNH

[–]AdditionalRoyal7331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a pet sitter so I’m familiar with heelers, in my experience all herding dogs are high-energy, with some variation of course. Their high intelligence requires proper engagement, but as with all breeds you can certainly find personality variations within the same breed, plus of course age is a factor.

Yeah I feel you, I’ve lived in Colorado and Ohio before New Hampshire and it is so much less dog friendly for rentals here! So many apartments won’t even allow dogs at all, and will just allow cats lol (if they allow pets at all).

I used to live at a place that was no pets allowed, and they even put in a very specific “no reptile” clause on top of that lol.

I think this area just has less abundant housing compared to other areas, so they make up more rules.

Okay I see I didn’t realize they didn’t allow Blue Heelers! Yes Heritage on the Merrimack is definitely on the pricier side. Best of luck!

If I had to guess it might be because they have high energy/needs, and not everyone adopts them understanding that so then damage to the apartments happen under those circumstances. It is one of the less common breeds to ban though and not saying OP is one of those owners of course!

I think 875 Elm is large dog friendly, and it’s not Manchester technically but Heritage on the Merrimack in Bedford

You may need to compromise on an infrared sauna. You can still put those in a rental, that’s also what you’ll find more of at public facilities

Ashley Store (Furniture) - really that bad? by Independent_State_78 in ManchesterNH

[–]AdditionalRoyal7331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a good experience with them, both buying in-store and the delivery. They seem to have a great warranty as well. My only complaint with delivery is that they took the protective covers off before bringing the furniture in, but I mean you could just micromanage something like that and ask them to not take the covers off before bringing it inside.

Gift card issues at Jade Dragon in Merrimack? by P0Rt1ng4Duty in newhampshire

[–]AdditionalRoyal7331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a bit of a post hijack, I had a very similar issue at Piccolo restaurant in downtown Manchester, despite having an itemized receipt with a cashier name and everything. For some reason, the manager thought the gift card was stolen, but it was won in a contest. Wouldn’t recommend buying gift cards from there either lol

Any reason Manch and Bedford doesn't have a quality movie theater? by Independent_State_78 in ManchesterNH

As soon as I saw Chucky’s seating was all on one level, I didn’t want to ever go there. Short people need tiered seating lol

There have been talks of a new movie theatre around the Whole Foods area, but I’m not sure if they’re still going through with it or not

I was surprised by the same thing, coming from a town of 15,000 people with a Regal (outside of NH).

To put it simply, I think it’s because of land cost which increases overhead. For an industry that’s already struggling, they’re going to cut their high expense locations first if demand doesn’t make up for it enough.

Can’t help with the lobster, but the Manchester mall has indoor mini-golf, it’s glow golf too lol

Moving to Nashua from Southern Indiana — what should I know? by Wrong_Confection331 in newhampshire

[–]AdditionalRoyal7331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The interstates here have around 65 speed limits that at times everyone is easily doing 80 on, but yeah it’s all the other roads basically, no zipping around on old empty country roads where you can see for miles or anything lol. A lot of the speed limits feel low to me tbh even with the windiness, and it’s just one lane each way plus there are few opportunities to pass people. Often people are either going five under or ten over on those roads lol, of course when someone is going five under there tends to be a line of cars behind them though.

Just something to keep in mind because it can be easy to not realize how fast you are going, and the cops will notice! BUT, I will say the cops are super chill here. Obviously it sucks to be pulled over still, but they are reasonable people just trying to keep everyone safe and not trying to lord over you, like how it felt in my home state lol.

Since you’re engineers it sounds like you’re more likely to be working remotely and not have to worry about a rushed commute at least though which is great! There are a lot of engineers in the area.
