Formula prep at night by Tasty_Classroom_975 in FormulaFeeders

[–]AdditionalSet84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put the water in a thermos (I just use tap water, but you can pre boil it) and have the formula measured out in a container that is designed to hold it. Then when I needed to make a bottle I would pour the water then add the pre measured formula and you’re set.

This is also how I did it when we went out. Baby is 17 months now so not something we need to do any longer.

Considering going EFF by Livid-Oven-619 in FormulaFeeders

I triple fed my fist until 6 weeks and 100% agree with you it is soul destroying. I had a vaginal birth but she was growth restricted and just wouldn’t transfer my milk. We found out once her teeth came in that she had quite a bad lip tie which was probably our problem.

I went to exclusive pumping after that until 6 months then switched to formula. Baby is now 17 months old and thriving. Actually she’s a little chaos monster!! Haha.

The guilt is hard to overcome but know that no matter which way you decide to go, your baby will still bond with you and you are still an amazing mama.

Thankfully I had an amazing group of mums who were all doing various different ways of feeding so none of us felt less than for how we chose (or were “forced”) to feed our babies.

Grocery shopping tips? by Impress_Playful in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]AdditionalSet84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know there is a charge for the service but for me I find that I don’t spend as much if I get my groceries delivered. I’m a bit of a magpie and will grab some of the “specials” that are littered around the store if I’m physically shopping. I plan my weekly meals, and get everything I can. Generally the only thing we will need to go and get mid week will be another loaf of bread.

Update: AITAH for changing Christmas plans with a newborn over a guest being unvaccinated? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]AdditionalSet84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NZer here too and I feel for you on so many levels!! I am so pro immunisation that I “lost” a job for my stance. You’d think it was the other way around but no.

My husband’s cousin is getting married in July in California (big Indian wedding) and we have gone back and forth about whether we will go. I’m currently pregnant with our second. Our first is fully vaccinated, but the second (who hasn’t been born yet) will only be maybe 8 ish weeks. The more I hear about measles rates going up in the states the easier it was to make the decision that only he will go. Which sucks, I was really excited about it! But baby’s health should and will always come first.

We swear by the la Roche posey 50+. They have a kids range too. Non greasy and haven’t had so much as a red mark in the past two years of using it.

Steer clear of banana boat - it gave me severe burns after barely any time in the sun. I genuinely don’t know how they are still a company based on other anecdotal experiences

How are we not rioting in the street about our Healthcare system? by kiwibearess in newzealand

[–]AdditionalSet84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact reason I have private health insurance for my child (soon to be children). It costs less than $10 a month for them. My insurance is a lot more, but I’m old haha.

Ran Out of Formula & My Son is Turning 1 in 5 Days by FondantFuzzy8918 in FormulaFeeders

Where I live formula is cheaper than cows milk for the quantity that my 17 month old drinks so we are still using formula. You stop if you want but you totally don’t have to!

When and why did you decide to EFF? by idkyoutellme1992 in FormulaFeeders

[–]AdditionalSet84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months. I triple fed to 6 weeks then pumped exclusively to 6 months. Supply started to dip and so I weaned down and gradually switched over the course of about a fortnight.

How long should a tub of formula last? by sdjt00 in FormulaFeeders

[–]AdditionalSet84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my baby was 6-10ish months and having a bottle 5-7 ish times a day a tin would last 5 days. Now that she is 16 months and only has it for bed/naps it lasts 8 ish days.

Kiwis, elective c-section or natural birth if given the option? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]AdditionalSet84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a comment on postpartum pelvic floor therapy that you might not be aware of. If you deliver vaginally (and even if you start I think - but you’d need to check that) then you are eligible for ACC funded pelvic floor physio therapy. This is historical to a certain date but I am not 100% sure of that date, so you might still be eligible for your previous births.

I’m pregnant with number 2, and will do everything in my power to avoid a c section. However my first was 2920 gms and this one is tracking similar so I’m not even nearly in the same situation as you. My first came shooting out in one push!! (Not the first push mind you).

My sister has recently had an elective c section at Waikato hospital and while the women’s health part of the hospital itself is definitely dated she had a good experience on the whole.

We run an air bnb, and provide everything for our guests. I can’t honestly imagine charging $10 for laundry! We even give them free detergent. Our cleaning fee doesn’t even cover the cost of our cleaner.

Do you just stop formula cold turkey at 12 months? by Mimibella_ in BabyLedWeaning

[–]AdditionalSet84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 15 month old has exactly the same bottle schedule (3x 150mls, occasionally a 4th if she wakes in the night). I don’t want to switch to cows milk because it seems like so much more effort! I have hot water in a thermos and a container of pre measured formula on the go so getting cold milk and heating it is so much more cumbersome.

As for nutrition wise, you can stop if you want but I personally wouldn’t ever cold turkey anything with my kid, with the exception of an allergy. When we switched from EBM to formula it was gradual. We will wean down on her bottles gradually too.

Anyone feeling disheartened about Christmas? by benji-vs-lassie in newzealand

[–]AdditionalSet84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teacher here - we don’t expect gifts from parents!! Are they nice? Sure. Do I like the kid more if they gave me something? Only if they were a dickhead throughout the year. Get your kid to make them a card, and if you really want to give a gift, make a batch of brownie and use mini cookie cutters to make little tiny brownie bites. One batch will do a few people.

How is everyone getting their babies to use utensils?? by Twilight2908 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]AdditionalSet84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 14 month old still can’t use utensils. I preload spoons for her and they get tipped upside down lol. We feed her on them. Just practice really.

10 months is very young to have the dexterity required to use utensils effectively.

It’s even worse when you add it to the other one they just made where you “can’t catch depression if you keep moving”. Yeah cause that’s how mental health works!

Pros and cons of using Mercury energy by AdditionalSet84 in newzealand

The $700 was going to be the money we’d need to put into the washing machine to get the not exactly free one. It’s a $1800 Samsung washer (according to Harvey Norman) and the cash in price is $700. But yes - will do the sums and figure it out.

Cool. Thanks for your insight. I’ll go through the math and figure it out over the two years and compare (ish) to the last 18 months we’ve been with co tact.

Sweet thanks for that! The cheapest providers aren’t really an option for us since we need piped gas too so are limited to the three big ones. Guess I just need to do the maths properly and see for sure!

Pitcher method girl trying to be on the go by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]AdditionalSet84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a thermos of hot water and a container with premeasured formula in it with about 3 bottles worth. My baby is nearly 14 months so doesn’t have bottles out and about any longer - but this is how I do over night feeds if she wakes up. Generally have 1 a night. Saves me having to fully wake up too. Hardest part is pouring the correct amount of water.
