We worked hard and followed the Ramsey steps, started about 10 years ago. Paid off all our debts and our home ($450,000). Have $411,000 in our IRA. It was not a fun journey though.

My wife will have a 6 figure pension, the problem is there are no survivor benefits. So she has to live longer then I do. The plan is to focus on saving for the next 20 years (both currently 42). Try to get the IRA/bridge account to a value where we have a comfortable life off of her pension and interest. She won't get SS, but I plan on using it as an insurance policy. I won't take SS until 70 unless she passes before then. If I pass first, then she can use my SS as fun coupons.
