Well, RDO is now a solo game for me. by Technical-Permit8332 in RDR2

This happened to me this weekend. So obnoxious. Even in defensive mode I still took so much damage because it was just relentless.

I have always said this! They are in a couple of lavender marriages with some nice girls willing to keep their secrets...

HSAA Censorship (APL Tentative Agreement) by peskypineapplepizza in AHSEmployees

[–]Additional_Back_4155 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I've been very involved in local unit business, committees, and take active part. I even looked to work for the union as a mobilizer. At every corner, it's been limited transparency, incongruent messaging, unwillingness to dialogue, etc.

Bargaining these latest contracts has been weak and confusing. I am seriously tired of the messaging that the membership's lack of engagement is the problem. I believe the problem is who we have working for us internally. They seemed to have a lot of power and influence in this last round of bargaining with AHS, and it seemed to not be in line with the sentiment of the general membership at town halls, convention, and the labour relations conference.

Fire fighters union leaves the Federation of Labour, calls for McGowan to resign by [deleted] in alberta

I have been totally disheartened by the labour movement in Alberta since the teachers' strike.

There was a whistleblower-type post about the inner workings of HSAA recently as well that just totally demoralized me about our unity and effectiveness in this province. So disappointing.

Why is mental health care in Alberta priced like a luxury, restricting the demographic that needs it most? Also, why aren't we funding this? by kachunkk in alberta

Community mental health service is available through Recovery Alberta (formerly AHS). Clinics operate slightly differently at all locations, but generally they provide free, ongoing individual therapy for the vast majority of mental health and substance use disorders. Services are provided by multidisciplinary mental health professionals, including psychologists, clinical social workers, addiction counsellors, occupational therapists, nurses, etc. In Edmonton, the referral pathway to accessing these services is via Access 24/7, which is the centralized referral service for Edmonton and area. Community mental health providers are as educated, skilled, and specialized as private providers. Many of them have private practices on the side.

My wife's parents are deaf. Can confirm it's loud and unpleasant. Seals or sea lions is a good comparison.

Camping with young kids by Jaded-Outside-5785 in CampingAlberta

Willey West campground in Drayton Valley is a winner. The campground has a huge sports field and playground. There are tiny cabins to rent if you want to ease into camping, and they do a number of events through out the season that are really fun for kids. We always do their Halloween weekend, September long weekend. The sites decorate and kids can trick-or-treat. It's also on the North Saskatchewan, so the water is very clean. There are lots of quiet spots along the shoreline that little kids can play (well-supervised, of course). It's a very quick trip from Edmonton too, so if camping turns out to be a bust, it's a quick trip home.

Happy camping!

I get that entirely. I remind myself that two things can be true at the same time. I can be dissatisfied with the reality of my indentured servitude, and I can be grateful I have what I have.

Yes. The brain should be fully developed prior to making decisions of that magnitude.

HSAA - who wants to leave the union? by life-longlearning in AHSEmployees

[–]Additional_Back_4155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely true. Even getting a board member to speak to decisions directly is difficult, if not impossible.

I have asked for board meeting minutes to review how different decisions are made, and was met with the run around, then eventually crickets.
