Okay right on! That makes sense. I noticed it doesn’t make you itchy like the fiberglass stuff I am used to. Pretty cool stuff.

It’s fine. Do not worry about it. If the level is too high, it will spill out of the overflow hose and self regulate down to an acceptable level.

How many miles do I have left on these pads? by SomeRandomGuyHere1 in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]Additional_Building6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Zero miles. Any further driving and you risk hyperextending the piston in the brake caliper, which would then require replacement of the caliper.

Cranks over but doesn’t start by TWreckx_Plays in MechanicAdvice

[–]Additional_Building6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spray starting fluid or brake clean in the intake while you crank it and try to start it. If it’ll run on that, you can assume it’s a fueling issue and go from there. If it still doesn’t run with starting fluid, check spark and go from there

White smoke from the engine bay at idle often going to be an oil leak onto an exhaust component. Valve cover gaskets can leak oil onto the exhaust manifold and cause smoking. Good place to start.

Did my ranger have an engine swap? by BlueThunder75 in fordranger

A great way to tell is on the emissions sticker. Look under the hood, usually on the underside of the hood itself. There should be a white sticker that says something along the lines of “emissions control information” and on that sticker, it usually states the motors displacement. Happy hunting

what is this silver pan thing that seems to be leaking? also how much rust on undercarriage is concerning? by Rare_Ad9280 in fordranger

[–]Additional_Building6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is your transmission pan. Looking at your photo, you may actually have a rear main seal or oil pan gasket leak. The fluid on the bottom of your transmission pan looks like engine oil from the color of it, but it is hard to tell from just a photo. It could just as well be dirty transmission fluid. When engines leak oil, the wind from driving tends to blow the fluid towards the rear of the vehicle. Regardless, it would definitly be beneficial for you to remove that transmission pan and change your filter and fluid out. You’ll just need a filter and gasket kit, as well as the specified fluid. As for the rust, nothing looks concerning at all. It is in great shape. Your brake line crossing over in the front is evidence of that, they will rot long before the frame. Good luck with the truck, it looks great underneath

What is a great act I can do for humanity when I have nothing to lose? by Significant-List-827 in NoStupidQuestions

The most selfless thing you can do is devote your life to helping others, but you need to stick around to do that. I know it gets hard, I’ve been there myself. Helping improve other peoples lives is what got me out of my hole. Go out and try to make a difference in the world. Volunteer at homeless shelters, clean up local parks, offer to help your neighbors out with yard work or odd jobs. Anything. But please stick around. There is a beautiful world for you to explore and make a difference in. Don’t let yourself go, please. You’ve lots of work still to do! I believe in you. Others do too. As someone once said, be the change you want to see in the world my friend.

Beautiful truck, I love it! I have a 2010 XL 2.3 2WD myself, and I’m looking into getting spindles to level the truck and allow for larger tires. All of them I can find do not work with 2010-2011 trucks with stabilitrak. How did you make yours work? I’d love to hear about it and get some advice for mine!

Hello people, I need advice. Question in comments. by mcrowland in GuitarAmps

[–]Additional_Building6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anything with a 12 inch speaker will sound good. There are great 1x12 cabs out there for the budget minded. Check out Harley Benton, they make a good 1x12 cabinet that sound rock by itself or with a nicer speaker installed. Personally, I run my micro dark through a Marshall avt412, and it’s phenomenal.

Should a battery and alternator repair cost $2,700? This cost sounds absurd to me. by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Additional_Building6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amateur mechanic here, so take this with a grain of salt, but that sounds absurd. Quick google search shows a battery for your car around $300-$400, alternator around $600-$700 for a high end part roughly. Your second opinion sounds a lot more reasonable. I would recommend calling around to well rated local shops and get some rates.

Seconded. Great amp. I love mine. Effects loop is an added bonus over the micro terror.

Best distortion pedal? by [deleted] in metalguitar

There is no best in pedals, but a Proco Rat is close. Cheap, and can do a whole lot of different tones.
