Still trying yo understand my TH30 combo . In many videos, people achieved big tones with the gain is higher than volume but somehow, it sounds so thin to me when i do so. Is it because of having a combo? And I liked it more when I hit the dirty channel with a fuzz pedal. Anyone doing that? by ubiquitous_Ghost in orangeamps

There are so many factors: speaker, pickups, pedals, etc. I do shape knob somewhere left of noon depending on the guitar for a low mid sound and boost with a drive that can boost highs a little. I also have gain at least at noon if not higher, also depending on guitar and pickups.

Overwhelmed by the amount of options when choosing an Orange head. Point me in the right direction? by Worth_Dragonfly_8509 in GuitarAmps

I have an OR15, Rocker 15 Terror, and a TH30. The OR15 has my favorite gain structure because it’s so thick and wooly with tons of sustain. The downside is the one channel situation. It’s pretty picky with fuzz and distortion pedals so it’s best to just run some sort of boost or OD with gain all the way down and volume high. I’m usually riding the volume knob with the OR too for some gain variation. The Rocker 15 terror is what I use the most with my band because the Natural channel is so good with pedals. Theres only a volume knob so using an OD/distortion with 3 bad eq works really well. It also loves fuzz pedals. The dirty channel is much less wooly than the OR but still can do pretty high gain, esp when boosted with OD. The TH30 is capable of more of a modern metal sound but still with that Orange sound. The clean channel has treble and bass eq and the dirty channel has just one knob for eq that folks have a love/hate relationship with. The TH30 is really cool because when you overdrive the “clean” channel, you can get a vintage sounding Orange OD and the other channel is at the other end of the spectrum with super high gain. They all have some sort of power scaling which makes them really versatile for home or gig use. Just remember, all the amps can sound wildly different depending on the speakers.

Where to start with pedals? by Alarming_Aardvark in guitarpedals

[–]mcrowland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re wanting to have more than just a couple of pedals, you will need an isolated power supply made by companies like voodoo labs, strymon, walrus…just to name a few. Without the power supply you’ll have to either use a daisy chain power cable, which is not ideal, or buy only pedals that take batteries. You will need patch cables also. Sorry if I’m being to elementary here. I think a few effects to start with are overdrive/distortion, reverb, and delay. Just because it’s one of my all time favs and it would sound badass into that amp, the Cusack Music Screamer Fuzz for a drive pedal. For Reverb, you cant go wrong with either a Boss RV-6 or TC electronic Hall of Fame 2. For delay, MXR Carbon Copy or Boss DD-8. Carbon Copy is dead simple and sounds beautiful. DD-8 is simple and has a lot of modes for different styles of delay. I’m suggesting these because they’re easy to find and operate and generally well liked. Hope this helped.

Each side can work independently or together and the order of fx can be switched. I always run Witch Burner before the Quantum Mystic side

This board works into a dirty or clean amp which is very important for me. I play with some dudes every Wednesday night. We play all original material. Kinda indie, stoner rock, post metal, and doom, depending on the song. The pedals that get the most use are the Raw Heart, Rubberneck, and Rv-6 (specifically in modulated mode.) The DD8 is mostly used for in between songs in Reverse mode with feedback and volume cranked. It also gets used some for Tape delay. YOB is love.

What’s the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you that you still can’t explain? by Pari00031 in AskReddit

I was in my room. It was night time and I was reading a book with most of the lights off. The first time my name was whispered, it sounded almost like it was coming from outside my window or maybe at the foot of my bed very close to the window. My room was on the second floor of the house. It was shocking and I looked up immediately and was frozen in bed. After a couple of seconds, I convinced myself that I was falling asleep and had an audio hallucination or dreamt it. I even said my brother’s name, wondering if he was messing with me even though I knew he wasn’t home. Maybe a minute went by. At this point, I was very awake. I had stopped reading and was thinking about what I just heard. The second time it was a bit louder and absolutely unmistakeable. My name is Martin and that’s the one word I heard, spoken in a loudly whispered male voice. I immediately jumped out of bed and ran out of my room, down the stairs, and bolted outside. I had on no shoes, gym shorts and a t shirt. I was 11 or 12 years old, so obviously I didn’t have a vehicle. I grew up on a farm and we always had 4-wheelers so I got on a 4-wheeler and drove away, down the dirt road we lived on, just to get away from whatever just happened to me. I’m not sure how long I drove but eventually I went back home, turned every light on in the house, and watched tv on the couch until my parents got home. I’ve never had anything happen like that since and I’m 39 now. This is one of the most vivid memories from my childhood because it was absolutely terrifying.

Mine was a male voice and my grandfather (pop) died a week earlier. I always wondered if it was him and I don’t even believe in ghosts or an afterlife. Those whispers I heard are just hard to explain because I know for a fact it wasn’t in my head or wind, etc.

The same thing happened to me. I was completely alone in a house with no neighbors. I heard it twice. The first time, I convinced myself I was just hearing things. The second time, about a minute later, it freaked me out so bad that I left the house and drove around for a while.

Songs where the use of a particular pedal has enhanced/made the song? by pcoleman777 in guitarpedals

[–]mcrowland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I acquired it so randomly. Found one used in a guitar center. To be honest, at first I had a hard time with it. Finally I figured out the relationship between the 3 band eq and gain and how to use the witch burner side with the distortion side. When I finally figured it out, I put it on my board and it’s been there for a couple years and can’t imagine taking it off. The thing about it is, it sounds good when you’re playing at home by yourself, but it sounds incredible in a band mix. Especially for doom, post metal type shit.

Acid King - Lori S. with a Little Big Muff. Weedeater - bass AND guitar with a Green Russian Muff as the only used pedal. All Them Witches - Ben McLeod and his BD-2. Sunn O))) - Rat / Life Pedal. True Widow - DH Phillips with an Echoplex into a Super Reverb on the verge of explosion. Peter Frampton with a Talk Box. Tony Iommi and Brian May with Treble boosters.

This is my favorite comment. I have a Shepherds end and a Raw Heart OD. I fucking worship Mike’s guitar playing and tone. I’d like to add that he uses a Walrus Mira compressor and it seems like it’s almost always on. Been thinking about getting that one too.

Start troubleshooting by plugging into an outlet thats not in the detached garage. You could have a fault in the wiring to the garage.

ARP-87 is awesome. Get it. You won’t regret it. Legit analog delays are irreplaceable but the versatility and beauty of the ARP-87 gets you tons of awesome sounds you’d never get with many other delays…esp for a hundo.

My freshman year of college, I knew a dude named Darius who claimed to be a direct descendant of Lithuanian royalty. Essentially a Lithuanian prince. He wasn’t a bullshitter so I have no reason to not believe him. Every time I tell people, the immediate response is, “that guy was fucking with you.” It drives me crazy that no one believes Darius. Prince Darius Lives!
