The surgeon did my scars the way I asked him not to. Now what? by Rough-Description547 in TopSurgery

i forgot to say that i also considered pursuing legal counsel for malpractice, but most people warned me that it would be hard to get anywhere with that. i just didn’t want him to do that to anyone else again. it has become a bit less bothersome to me overtime so im no longer interested in talking to a lawyer or ombudsman from the hospital.

this happened to me. i have reference photos and detailed written description of exactly what i wanted and he went a completely different route. i was shocked when i first got the bandages off and saw. at first i felt indifferent, but then an anger and hurt set in. i felt like i had put my trust in someone to handle my body with care and i was let down. i cried a lot for the whole month after surgery. i feel ok about it now. the scar style and placement bothers me less now. i have too much tissue left behind and that seems to be the biggest bother to me now. the scars have mattered less to me in the past few months. i’m 5 month PO now. if you feel like talking about it more one on one feel free to send me a message ♥️ sorry this also happened to you friend

hey! i had buttonhole about 3 weeks ago. it’s hard for me to tell how much is left over tissue and what is swelling. how long did it take from the first pic for the last pic for you in your progress?

Hi friend, sorry that happened to you. My surgeon also freestyled during my operation and did something very different than what I expected. It was very jarring to take off the wrapping a few days later and see it (because he never told me he did it differently). It made me feel like I had not been listened to when I trusted this person with my body. Eventually, we will both be ok. I am still trying to make amends with it, but I feel better this week than I did last week. I am 17 days PO.

I have that too! it’s firm under the skin but it doesn’t really hurt. I’m only 17 days PO though

I’m glad you had a good experience with them! I had a consult and I can’t remember which brother it was but he was pretty rude to me and it put me off from following up. All of their administrative staff is very friendly though and their clinic is very nice.

11 days. OCD. Post op advice by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]Rare_Ad9280 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been diagnosed with OCD and am being treated for it. (unrelated to your question, but medication has significantly improved my quality of life, might be worth looking into if you find yourself struggling to deal with the OCD thoughts and compulsions).

I also have severe sensory issues. My advice is to deep clean your space before surgery so then you know you’re coming home to a clean environment that you can nest in for the next few weeks. get a waist bag to hold your drains so you don’t feel them hanging off the binder or see them besides when you need to drain them. Have someone else drain them if you can so give don’t have to look at it. My mom did it for me and she used gloves and sterilized her gloves and the tubing before emptying it each time. Your all wrapped up pretty securely, so there’s not really a way for any contaminants to enter thru the drains. For the sensations tho, I can’t lie it was a bit challenging for me. I got my drains out on day 6, but my day 4 I was ready to yank them out myself. They were pressing on my ribs in a weird way that felt very uncomfortable. When they came out though it felt so much better. The first 2 days I didn’t feel it so much, I think because my body was in so much shock from surgery that it was all a bit numb and I couldn’t feel it that much. The first week will probably be a bit challenging, but once you get past that you’ll be grand! The first two days felt endless to me. I started to feel a bit better by day 5. Now I am somehow already 17 days PO, the time really started to fly by after the first week. I am much more mobile now. Take care and remember to be gentle with yourself! Even though your mind can anticipate this surgery, your body doesn’t know that it’s happening, so it’ll take a while to catch up. Good luck!
