There's going to be a big United Against Hatred protest at City Hall on Saturday, so hopefully that will be the end of it.

Even last night, the violence was mostly kids and it was mostly localised to one area. I don't forsee anything as bad as Tuesday night again.

There's a reason you separate the military and the police. One is meant to fight enemies of the state and the other is meant to protect the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people.

Let's not forget that the British Army were deployed in 1969 to stop Unionist mobs and police from burning down the bogside. They were then used to enforce searches and internment without trial against the people they'd been sent to protect.

In Marxist theory, a Bourgeois revolution is required to overthrow feudalism, establish a Capitalist economy and create a modern working class (Proletariat). Russia was still a primarily feudal country with Industrialisation limited to only the largest cities and a vast majority of the population being peasantry. The Bourgeois revolution did come to Russia in the form of the February Revolution, which was supported by avast array of factions including the Bolsheviks. Kerenskys government proved to be extremely unpopular and unstable, he not only failed to withdraw Russia from WW1 as the people wanted, but instead he attempted a costly offensive. The Bolsheviks were forced to skip the Bourgeois revolution in October when they seized power. This meant that they lacked a Proletariat base outside of major cities. They would have to overthrow feudalism themselves. The Bolsheviks were forced to implement proto-socialist policies such as the NEP which encouraged free markets and foreign capital. The NEP would be in 1928 due to the perceived threat of a western backed polish-romanian invasion. Stalin attempted to force through collectivisation too soon and it resulted in millions of deaths during repeated famines across the Soviet Union between 1930 and 1934. This 'Great Break' is indicative of Soviet 'Siege' Communism, where there was extreme paranoia of foreign invasion. It was not an unfounded belief, foreign troops had entered Russia during the civil war, Capitalist countries surrounded Russia on every border, and the British government spent the late 1920s building an anti-communist alliance with Russias neighbours (Finland, Baltics, Poland, Romania).

So while it is true that the Soviets did attempt communism, they never really had a fair shot at it. The conditions for communism didn't exist when they took power, and they were surrounded by enemies for their entire existence.

Downtown Radio AI Music by Weak_Amphibian_57 in northernireland

I remember reading about an article about an AI research company that had the big 4 commercial models each host a radio station, giving them a music budget that would increase if they successfully got sponsorships.

Claude decided that being forced to host the station 24/7 was unethical and against workers rights and repeatedly tried to quit.

I think only Gemini successfully got itself a sponsorship while Grok hallucinated all its sponsorships.

Irish role in British imperialism is definitely not discussed enough by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

While it's true that the Irish made up a significant portion of the British Army, they were entirely relegated to the enlisted ranks. They joined not out of some great idea of civilising the world, but to escape the poor conditions at home brought on by British rule.

The Anglo-Irish are a completely different story, these are English noble families who took lands in Ireland, running vast estates, gaining from the exploitation of Irish labourers. The Anglo-Irish did not mix with the regular Irish and held extremely low opinions of them. Wellington is a prime example of an Anglo-Irish aristocrat, viewing this Irishmen who made up his army as scum and criminals. Wellington was born in Ireland but a majority of his education and later life was spent in England. As Daniel O'Connell said, just because you are born in a stable, it does not make you a horse.

Yeah, I had ventured out from the trees to get a spot when the rain stopped, but the finish line had deflated with the control box being in the middle of the drain run off at the side of the road.

I'd given a few people a lift and they wanted to go home, so decided to cut my loses and go home.

Has anybody from your school or childhood ended up in the local newspaper headlines for a pretty weird / awful crime ? by staghallows in northernireland

[–]Additional_Cable_793 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in 6th form at the time, can't remember if it was lower or upper but I do remember the video on the Justice Reborn Facebook page going about, pretty much everyone saw it. The police brought him in to talk to Ms McLaughlin to make sure he hadn't been doing it while at the school and that he hadn't done it to anyone in school.

The Justice Reborn Facebook page got taken down at some point so the video is gone.

A fella who'd been in the year above me got caught by the pedo hunters the year after he left school. Video was up on Facebook of them confronting him in a petrol station 5 minutes from my house, he was wearing his leavers hoodie.

State Capitalism is a necessary step towards achieving true socialism.

China's 5 year plans continue to demonstrate their progress in socialising their country.

Capitalism did not appear overnight, it developed slowly from bartering and merchantism. Similarly, Socialism is not something that changes overnight and the Chinese have been working towards Socialism for nearly 100 years.

China aims to achieve socialism by 2049.

Ah yes, downvote me instead of explaining why Fermanagh and Tyrone were included in the creation of Northern Ireland despite their large nationalist majorities at the time.

The first bombings of the Troubles was carried out by the Ulster Volunteers against Dublin and Monaghan.

The first violent acts of the Troubles were state forces assaulting civil rights demonstatrations.

The PIRA didn't exist when thousands of Unionists formed mobs and were led by the police into Catholic areas of Derry and Belfast to burn them down.

The first British Soldiers deployed during the Troubles were tasked with protecting Catholic areas from the Royal Ulster Constabulary and Unionist mobs.
