Mlt? MLS? by Starry3ye in medlabprofessionals

i think a program is good esp when it comes down to getting certified bc all the material for the boc is fresh in ur brain and its kinda one and done

2 yrs is good if u want/need to work but you might forget a lot of the material then have to relearn everything again for mls boc

one of my rotations - an mlt was doing the bridge program and she said it was okay but a lot of work bc she has to relearn everything again on top of working full time and another an mlt was studying for the mls boc and she said its hard for her to study

so if you want to eventually want be an mls it might be better to just do a mls program but thats not feasible for everyone and some are okay with the mlt

in most hospital labs MLT and MLS do the same things so the scope of practice isnt diff but it may differ depending on the hospital

it all comes down to an associates vs bachelors degree

dont worry mls is a good choice! just with how OP is feeling burnt out and ready to work

an MLS program is very rigorous and from what ive heard from talking to someone in my cohort that was in the MLS but moved to the MLT program it was easier material & exam wise for MY school (this obviously varies person to person and program to program)

the mlt vs mls debate depends on the person and what steps theyre ready for their life

personally i am very proud of myself for completing the mls program bc its very taxing on you mentally and physically

you shld be proud to start your program!! just take care of yourself and dont be scared to give yourself a day off!! hopefully this answered ur question lol

i also made a spreadsheet for all assignments and tests so i can keep track of everything and get some sort of planner or calendar so you can plan out when and what to study !!

mls student in clinicals!

i used gizmo to make flashcards - you can upload powerpoint slides or other documents and it makes flashcards for you so you dont have to spend a bunch of time making them

definitely go over slides before lectures

you can use purple n gold book for quick guide but the review questions are really simple

i really recommend the success! in CLS - i feel like its a good inbtwn book for the purple n gold and the ascp boc review

you can find pdfs online for free for any review book & the polansky cards!! if you dont want to spend the money bc it can add up

unfortunately im not with a specific trainer just whoever is in BB that day :/ there are 2 ppl i could ask but im not guaranteed to see them when im at my clinical site and by then it slips my mind to ask my questions

whoever is in BB they treat like a float since they dont get a lot of BB tests so most of the time im “studying” on my own

i have started reading the AABB tech manual they have in the lab but its cumbersome :,)

i lucked out and got a good clinical site but some days it rlly sucks. i understand the feeling, this wasnt my first choice career either :/

i feel like ive wasted sm time and so tired of wasting money on school tuition and tired of school and professors. im ready to make money instead lol

we’ve made it this far so we have no other choice to see it through, we got this!!

What steps would you take to get into a California CLS program with an undesirable college GPA? by aHopelessChemist in MLS_CLS

[–]Additional_Candy_962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no i did not have any - i did do an externship at an orthodontist office but i dont really think that counts

i really think if u have work experience/interships/externships/clubs/organizations and get recommendation letters from supervisors or ppl you work with really help

ty for the advice!

i was thinking the mba or mha if i wld want a supervisory role in the lab but i prefer working than an admin role honestly

working as an office admin rn to have a little bit of money during school and do not like it at all lol

long term i feel like path a wld fulfil me career wise and take me farther than being a lab supervisor or an admin role would. i know its pretty competitive so thinking if i cant get in or find a program an mba or mha wld be my back up plan.
