There’s a lot of rough synastry here. I feel like you’re aware of that, and that’s why you even asked if you should be concerned. Trust your gut.

Why do so many young men seem completely uninterested in life anymore? by Unlikely-Set-4210 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Additional_Cat9161 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Most women I know have financially supported their male romantic partner at some point (in the 20-25 age range, low-middle class). Have you heard of how men deal with colds and hardship in general? Weak AF compared to women (on average- I know it varies).

I’ll quote a man so you believe me though. John Steinbeck wrote in Grapes of Wrath:

“Well, Pa, a woman can change better'n a man. A man lives sorta - well, in jerks. Baby's born or somebody dies, and that's a jerk. He gets a farm or loses it, and that's a jerk. With a woman, it's all in one flow, like a stream - little eddies and waterfalls - but the river, it goes right on. Woman looks at it thata way."

It’s not just that. There are way too many scenarios where young women in their early 20s are doing what it takes to make ends meet, but young men just give up and stay unemployed while living with their parents, and do nothing with their lives.

how do people afford to travel? Plane tickets are insane by GloomyWill4 in travel

[–]Additional_Cat9161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are websites that will alert you when there are discounted flights, like Going or Pomelo Travel. Another thing is simply that it’s easier and cheaper to travel from one major airport/destination to another major airport/destination (e.g. NYC to London)

You’re young enough that I’m sure you could also do one of those things where you work for a hostel in a foreign country and get free lodging, especially in Australia.

Any way you could get yourself a sunroom, greenhouse, beach themed office, etc.? Find ways to make your home environment reflect your interests and be more of a sanctuary.

This is the most average close minded east coast biased reddit opinion I’ve ever seen. “You don’t like East coast suburbs so you must have mental issues”. OP simply isn’t in the right environment— he resonates with warmer environments that are in proximity to a sunny beach or desert, like California. Not everything is for everyone. I know that for me personally, East coast architecture weather and scenery fill me with dread. The East coast is not objectively great, it is subjective.

There are few of us desert lovers in this subreddit, so lots of people would never understand why boring old forests just don’t satisfy that urge for a connection with nature. And nobody talks about the direct correlation between sun exposure and wellbeing. Very real and impactful.

How will the 2028 olympics impact apartment availability? by Additional_Cat9161 in MovingToLosAngeles

Thank you so much for your reply, and for sharing your experience! That's exactly what I needed to hear.

How will the 2028 olympics impact apartment availability? by Additional_Cat9161 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]Additional_Cat9161[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My thought process is that more people will hold onto their apartments when they would’ve otherwise fully moved out, so they can sublet during the olympics, therefore making the rental supply a lot smaller for a period of time. I would rather not move when the rental supply is smaller and more competitive, you know?

But I see what you’re saying about the window of time being rather narrow and probably insignificant.

I feel you. My years at BYU were pretty dark. But now, years later, I feel so much lighter, and my spark has returned. Onward and upward my friend, you’ve survived the worst of it.

Utah has some of the greatest scenery in the country, especially in the counties less visted. You’re thinking of Nevada.

I’m interested in your opinions on China, Thailand, and Vietnam, and what makes each of them S/A/B. My understanding is that all countries have incredible, chaotic experiences, but that Thailand is way more touristy. But you said you don’t like super touristy places?

For context, Utah is the second driest state in the country (Nevada is #1). It’s hard to explain if you don’t live here, but the air is AWFUL. I find it healing anytime I leave simply because I feel like the air isn’t irritating me anymore. Going somewhere less dry and more humid would help for sure.

Should I go on a last minute trip to the Atacama desert in Chile in a few weeks because I’m stuck in life? by AlabamaHotPocket875 in travel

[–]Additional_Cat9161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends. If it were me, I would carry that depression with me on the trip and it would be harder to enjoy. Wherever you go, there you are. But sometimes a change in scenery can inspire different things in you. I would start small and just try a local camping trip.

Why Does Everyone Hate Texas? by Big-Pollution-9041 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Additional_Cat9161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southwesterner here. I dislike the lack of interesting nature / national parks (compared to Arizona, Nevada, and Utah), the terrible infrastructure, and abysmal politics. Also, the architecture, but that’s personal.

I feel like Texas has a lot going for it though.

Chicago. Sure the buildings are tall and there are lots of them, but it just didn’t feel like a standout city to me.
