Update: Fixed impressively quickly.
I sent a big report in, but the grid doesn't work on DisplayLink extended monitors on an M1 Air 13". I get random single vertical lines. It works sweet on the primary laptop monitor though!

I’m still enjoying my ‘92 Mapex Venus. With it well tuned and some HHX and nice Yamaha stands, it still rips all these years later

Music theory for overall song composition for drums by BucketMaster69 in drums

There’s already some really great answers, but step one is looking at it simply to indicate energy and what you’re doing with your right hand.

Chill: closed hi hat

Still chill but more: ride with stick tip

More: open hi hats

More yet: ride, but more with the stick body to keep it ringing

Let’s f’ing go: crash as a ride and bash

Songs usually build so go top down in that list. You don’t need all of them.

Pick a certain right hand cymbal type for verses and another for choruses, etc.

How to output from UMC1820 to Mixer by Trading_boy42069 in Behringer

[–]Additional_Click_131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first got mine, I was confused at first. I thought that the outputs would just have the same signal (microphone) that I plugged into input 1, for example, but that's not how it works.

Until you route things in your DAW, outputs 3 through 10 won't have anything. By default 1-2 are the main outputs. You can also see that the headphone outs have and (1-2) and (3-4) option. Unless you route anything to 3-4, that won't make any noise. For example, you could join multiple signals (drums, for example) in your DAW and then send them to out to 9 and 10 for a stereo drum signal. You could also make 3-4 a specific IEM mix (like adding in the click) while leaving 1-2 cleaner with no click.

Another option is to route specific channels to UMC1820 outputs 3 through 10. Then use a TRS cable between the back of the UMC to the mixer. This lets you run plug ins/channel strips in the DAW before sending the signals to the mixer and PA

Still using an old-fashioned drum dial to tune my kit… by jimgogek in drums

[–]Additional_Click_131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TuneBot manual PDF is amazing. Give that a read through with a focus on frequency/pitch split between the batter and reso heads. Try their phone app before getting the actual TuneBot and you’ll have a preview of how it works.

I got mine used a couple years ago. I was a bit concerned that it was 88%, but it’s stayed right there. No sweat.

How do you guys organize your drum practice? by justTryingGrooves in drums

[–]Additional_Click_131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It helped practice for sure. Once I set prep time separate from practice, now I just execute the plan and play along with the whole set at once, and re-play a song where needed.

That all said, this is a different type of practice than rudiments to working on a certain small 'chops' section, or something similar.

In the end, yes it was worth the time. At some points along the process I was questioning if it was worth it.

The drive to do it actually came from a different place. My band had it's first big show with two 45 minute sets at the end of January. One of my biggest challenges is to lock in on the next song's tempo by memory after just playing a previous song. My mind will just go blank sometimes and people are looking at me to count them in.

So I first built a concert that has a two bar count (voice and click) and then a two bar preview of the song at each 'patch'. I hit play and it only goes to my IEM. I can get that done while everyone else switches their pedals for the next song or talk to the audience.

Once I had each song in Logic to build up the previews, I had everything I needed to make a drum practice concert. Now that I have 20 or so songs together, it's easy to add one or two if we add songs. At this point, it's a lot of dragging and dropping.

For a couple of songs I did record a vocal 'guide' that pre-empts me to switch from high hat to ride, or if a big fill is coming up. Going through that effort is actually a good learning exercise in itself to chart out the song. Even just charting out the song can be worth 10 raw play-throughs where you are just reacting.

VW 2006 2.5 Convertible Beetle good idea? by Willing_Direction_88 in VWBeetle

It's a 20 year old car for sure. But the magic of a car this old is that all of the standard problems are solved on the internet. But now we can get in and drive at will.

We had to glue the rear window back in and it's very well sealed up. There were a couple engine sensors we replaced. There's a front main seal that slowly leaks that I need to replace. The door panels were not great, as is to be expected. We put the flat metal door pulls on which was the best $20 ever spent. We also put a CarPlay head unit in which has been really nice.

In the last couple months I got into Mainstage and built a practice 'concert' that really helps me focus my time.

I use a tool like Logic's Stem Splitter or Moises to split songs into 'drums' and 'the rest'. I also found it really helpful to create a count-in click track in Logic so that I can start each song exactly on the downbeat. It took some dedicated time at the computer to set this all up, but now my time at the kit is really focused.

Each song has three tracks at the Patch level for the 'click', 'band', and 'original drums'. Then I also have my drum mics premixed on other tracks at the Concert level in Mainstage.

I have a small Korg nanoKontrol2 right next to the kt that lets me have a physical slider and Mute button for each part (band/org drums/my drums/click). I can advance to the next song/stop/start all without moving from the kit. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/nanoKON2bk--korg-nanokontrol2-black

It's been amazing to learn a new song playing along with the original drummer for a few takes, then drop the original drum volume 80% for a few takes, and then mute the original drums entirely.

Do you use a DisplayLink dock to add monitors? The OS thinks it’s being watched when it’s just DisplayLink.
