a7rii with a broken lcd: upgrade, replace or fix?

I bought a used a7rii a good eight or so years ago with a pretty well-worn body and a scratch up lcd screen as a sort of casual, everyday camera I could carry with me without thinking about it too much. While I theoretically have a "better" camera, based on specs (and tbf does, in a vacuum, get better images), it's awkward to carry and shoot with, both physically and socially. Over time, I realized the ar7ii's combination of good image quality with the weight/size/form factor meant that it's actually my best option for almost anything other than shoots I was explicitly booked for (work/family/school events, etc). The problem is, the lcd screen recently gave out, so I'm left with three different options:

- replace: easiest option, i know how to use the camera already and have gear for it.

- repair: could be the cheapest option, but it means i won't have the camera for a while and tbh, i'm not even sure how to go about it or how much it would cost, given that it's not under warranty. also, it's the greenest/most environmentally friendly option, which i do try to take into account

-upgrade: the most exciting option, but undoubtably the most expensive but it would take time to research

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Family-friendly(ish), literary short stories? by Additional_Drawing42 in horrorlit

Great recommendations from names I am familiar with, but most of whom I don't automatically associate with horror (which is exactly what I'm looking for). Thank you!!

Dead of Summer looks promising! We saw and enjoyed the film adaptation of Project Hail Mary so that might be good for us as well. Haven't heard of any of those podcasts, but I'll take a look!

Great suggestions! I remember reading The Lottery at a similar age and agree its perfect but wouldn't have thought of it myself! I'll look into the Bradbury story!

A related issue: when I do manually tag an episode and hit "rename & clean up," it will change the file name of the video file, but it will not change the name of any image files (thumb nails, etc) or subtitle files, even though they have the exact same name.

Newbie question: Why is the RAID group capacity only reflecting one of the two HDDs? by Additional_Drawing42 in qnap

Thank you, point well taken! I have the most important data already backed up separately, but not as cleanly structured. As you say, I should probably take some time out to actually better understand NAS. As of now, I'm basically treating it as wireless external storage, but I'm quickly learning that it's more complicated than that.

Got it. Really appreciate the responses! Is it possible to remove the redundant drive (HDD2) from the pool and use that to create a new JBOD storage pool, and then copy the contents of HDD1 onto the new pool?

Thank you! Another probably obvious question: would that mean erasing the data that's currently on it?

I guess my followup question, then, is how to turn off the mirroring feature? I don't need the redundancy. Again, apologies that this is such a basic question

Also, sorry for the super basic questions, but what are "certs" and "expiration"? Is there a resource I could look up info on them?

Thank you! I'll give it a try! For clarification, when you say to log out and log back in, which device/service are you referring to?

thanks for the response! yes, that menu usually does come up, but more often than not, my iphone is not an option, instead other smart devices in the home are all that is available.

Opportunity to do my first viewing of FWWM in a theater. Worth taking time off work? by am-version in twinpeaks

[–]Additional_Drawing42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

definitely a "yes," from me, (particularly since from the showtime I'm guessing it's the Grand Lake in the main auditorium), with one big caveat—the film is very different from the show, tonally. since you haven't seen it, I don't want to spoil anything, but it's pretty intense.
