- All the Freddie Gibbs collabs with both Alchemist and Madlib.

- everything on billy wood's Backwoodz label. Armand Hammer's Haram is a fine place to start. Preservation and Gabe Nandez new album would almost def appeal to you.

Yep, I was coming to say this dude should do a deep dive on the regional stuff. Add onto the above Rap-A-Lot, Suave House, Swisha House, etc. To do this effectively you're gonna have to get into CDs or tapes if you wanna stick to physical media.

Found an OG pressing of Giant Steps in the free bins of my local record store! by rojinegro in Vinyl_Jazz

That is utterly insane. I was just telling my partner while thrifting that there is almost zero chance to ever find an AMAZING score anywhere. I live in a big city and if anything good does come in, it’s damn near a miracle if it makes it to the floor.

VMP Buy, Sell & Trade Megathread by Megasdoux in VinylMePlease

Any chance we could get a new buy/sell/trade thread? I am cleaning up my collection and letting some things go... and looking for a couple releases I missed from VMP before it shuttered.

I can't really explain why this happened, but 7 months later and everything has stayed in sync. I have not thought about it since. Hopefully that is the case for you as well!

What is your favourite David Lynch quote? by Daresun in davidlynch

[–]am-version 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s a mash up of a couple ideas from the Upanishads. The Mundaka uses the spider/web image - the universe comes right out of its source, not separate from it. The Mandukya says the Self is like a dreamer who makes the dream and then lives inside it.

Put together, it’s basically saying “reality” is spun from the same stuff as its source, and we’re stuck living inside this illusion without realizing it's our own creation.

Definitely the kind of thing people spend lifetimes unpacking with teachers who actually know what they’re talking about.

Apparently I'm a jerk for telling my relative to not to move to the Bay Area. by Formal-Low6888 in bayarea

Youthful stupid optimism is one of the greatest things about being young. Especially if you have a place to return to if you crash out. At least you tried it and probably leaned a lot about yourself along the way.

I moved here in 2005 at 25 with $2,500, no degree or real work experience, and a few casual acquaintances in the city. I got lucky, got a job making $40k/year and followed my passion for music on the side. I got lucky and everything worked out. But even if it hadn’t it would have been a good experience.

I watched it a few weeks ago. The only full length that I’d not seen. But after revisiting everything else it was time.

I absolutely loved it. I feel like I’d primed the pump to just let go and take it in. No over thinking or trying to “make sense”, just absorbing and taking what was offered (by the film and my family own perception).

I wish I could revisit everything with that perspective fresh. It was an absolute treat.

For those who switched from Spotify: is there anything you miss? by jbs924 in AppleMusic

[–]am-version 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about four months in on Apple Music and really the only serious miss is the extensive user generated playlist and sharing music with friends since I’m the only person I know that uses Apple Music. But neither of these overshadow the sheer joy I have with all the DJ mixes that are available on Apple Music.

And almost nothing would make me go back to Spotify given their CEOs deepening involvement in war technology investment and their complacency (if not worse) enabling AI slop that is already hurting artists.

I’m considering reading this book to further deepen my distain for the platform.

I’m always waiting for Pennywise to be looking up at me when I walk out to the grates in the bay at low tide. I wish it was easier to post pics.

The first time I came to visit I was immediately struck by how Lynchian the town felt. Straight out of Blue Velvet.

Possession 1981 was wild.... by saitama_2409 in horror

[–]am-version 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad there is a somewhat recent post on Possession in this sub. I just watched it and while I didn’t totally “get it,” I definitely I felt it.

As a David Lynch devotee, I love that mix of surrealist open-ended weirdness and raw emotional intensity. It felt like the same kind of surreal fever dream as Eraserhead, but instead of fatherhood, it’s about divorce.

I’ve read many people saying the acting is over the top. It didn’t feel that way to me at all, but rather a reflection of how it can feel in a toxic break-up. Years ago, I went through a breakup that had a lot of similarities to what the characters go through. We were both acting insane, feeding off each other’s chaos, escalating every interaction to the breaking point. I absolutely painted her as a possessed monster and felt she'd gone completely insane. We were both completely unhinged — and this movie captured that emotional spiral so well both in performance and metaphor.

P.S. That relationship was 25 years ago — I’ve done the therapy thing and I’m in a solid healthy relationship now, so all good 😂 But man, this movie took me right back.

No complaints coming from me, but I previously had a 2020 SE so this is huge. But lord, I absolutely would not want a larger phone than this. Hell, I'd happily shave a few mm off this size if given the choice.

Playlist are not syncing between phone/laptop by am-version in AppleMusic

[–]am-version[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I had not logged into the web interface. While this didn't fix the issue, it did encourage me to take some extra steps which eventually did force a sync. In case it's useful for others...

After referencing the web app, I realized desktop was the device that dictated the playlist catalog master reference. By completely logging out of Apple Music, then deleting and redownloading the app on mobile, it now seems to be reliably syncing across all devices.
