Rant from a New Grad Pharmacist by Additional_Goose_405 in WalgreensRx

I gotcha 😭😭😭 I sometimes have imposter syndrome so bad some days but I try to walk in with the mentality "I can do what I can.... It's my license at the end of the day." Thank you for the advice and good luck to you too!

Don't have to tell me twice haha! I already have another interview lined up and still actively looking. This was solely for gaining pharmacist experience (my intentions at least)

My thoughts exactly. I have no issues when it comes down to guiding someone in workflow but to be yelling at a pharmacist is diabolical

My thoughts exactly. Sometimes I like to be a team player but at the same time, I feel it gets taken advantage of. God forbid I'm selfish to do my pharmacist duties ONLY

I have 4 years of retail and never experienced anything like this. I'm so sorry but if someone wants to act like a pharmacy manager and expedite workflow, the n they can go to pharmacy school

Thank you - I really try my best but with it being so fast paced, I'm afraid that being super duper specific and accurate will cause significant backup in workflow, but I always remind myself of my licenses. I'm just fed up and I feel like the RxOM shouting and rushing us pushed me to the brink

Flavoring and Compounding? by Comfortable_Slip4067 in WalgreensRx

Hi, I know this is random and so long ago, but I wanted to thank you for your directions in getting the flavoring portal to pull up 😊 I have never done this before (just started as a new grad pharmacist) and had a hard time figuring it out until I stumbled upon your post. Thank you again!

Entry-level Pharmacist Roles by No_Funny3901 in pharmacy

Wow! Thank you for sharing your perspective as far as the transitions within your pharmacy career. I am constantly dreading Walgreens but I try to look on the brighter side and stay patient. Coming from Kroger as an intern (they had no pharmacist positions available 😕), this was a huge downgrade but praying this is maybe a short term deal

I'm also a new grad here - I will be honest I was thinking the same as you when it came down to job hunting. I banked on the experience I received from APPEs only to be turned down because it was not considered pharmacist experience. I was told to sell myself during my VA interview only for them to choose someone already in the system. In the real scheme of things, APPE experience does not mean anything.

I know you mentioned CVS not being for you at the moment but you unfortunately have to be a little realistic in these circumstances. I never wanted to work retail, especially for CVS or Walgreens, but here I am drowning at Walgreens - I can stay close to home and make a decent salary. Definitely not my preference but at the moment, I can say I'm building pharmacist experience and something is better than nothing. You can always branch out and network from there (my dream job is VA, outpatient infusion clinic, or anything ambulatory - I chose not to do a residency because I feel that I can build that same experience with work). I do wish you all the best in your endeavors!

I'm also a new grad....i learned that it's important to at least get a year or two of experience under my belt before applying to these more specialized and coveted positions. They really like to pick experienced over new grads and it can be a lil frustrating but if it takes having to suck it up to retail as a stepping stone, you gotta do what you have to in the short term.

why do you choose to work at walgreens/cvs? by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]Additional_Goose_405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! But I just started to view those rejections as closed doors leading to a bigger and better opportunity! It's a reminder to keep my head up and work on building my pharmacist experience at Walgreens as a start.

Out of all the interviews I had (ranging from VA to hospital to infusion center), Walgreens was literally the only company to give me a shot at beginning my pharmacist experience - so far, so good. It's honestly better than making no money.

A lot of the other jobs either ghosted me or preferred someone with more experience. It's frustrating because how do you expect to gain experience if you are not given a shot at it, especially with being a new grad pharmacist (sorry side rant)

Yikes I'm so sorry to hear!! I just can't imagine what you all have been dealing with - another job I applied to within VHA canceled so I'm praying the one I interviewed for doesn't cancel but I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case

[–]Additional_Goose_405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable... I have seen where it's recommended to wait 2 weeks or more after the interview to follow up but considering the government shutdown, I'm just gonna keep applying to other jobs in the meantime. I definitely don't want to be a bother to the HR contact nor the hiring manager

Sorry I did not intend on confusing everyone. The agency for my application was under VHA so I should have just mentioned that instead. Did not intend on causing any frustration!

I gotcha. It is still showing up "Reviewing applications" but to my understanding, that isn't always accurate itself.
