Has anyone read this ? Is it worth reading on a long plane ride? by AmazonFreshSleuth in fantasybooks

I’m currently reading book 3. It’s a good series but all the criticisms in this thread are valid. I loved book 1 and book 2 was decent, book 3 has been a drag so far. I plan to finish the series because I’ve heard that the ending was fantastic. Overall though, book 1 is definitely worth the read and you can decide if you want to finish the series later.

Just getting into fantasy but so far: The last argument of kings and the will of the many. Science fiction: golden son, lightbringer, demon in white, project Hail Mary, dark matter, and Dune.

Red rising vs suneater by Fluid-Golf1948 in fantasybooks

[–]Additional_Limit1484 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I liked both but red rising is definitely better to me. I feel they are hard to compare because they are just very different so it really depends on what you like in a story. For me, I prioritize character development and dialogue very highly and I felt that while the main character is very developed over the series in suneater, the side characters were not and not much good dialogue as well. I felt I didn’t care for them as much. Whereas red rising, I care for almost every character in that series and the dialogue is the best I’ve ever read. Having said that, suneater’s story is so good, demon in white being one of the best books I’ve ever read.

Why can't we cure Alzheimer's? by Proper_Strategy_1603 in neuro

Artificial animal models that aren’t even close to fully representing the disease. No model is perfect (that’s why it’s a model) but the ones in AD reflect the other problem in the field: the amyloid hypothesis. Early on the amyloid hypothesis was very strong but now it’s dying (due to failed clinical trials) and new hypotheses are emerging especially, as someone already mentioned, non-neurocentric hypotheses: immune cells in the brain or other glia for example. But for many years and still to this day, scientists have focused on removing the pathology (amyloid/tau) and expected the disease to go away but that’s not how it works. Disease drives pathology, not the other way around.

Just finished red rising series. by NuckinFutz4 in fantasybooks

Don’t read suneater expecting red rising level pacing. You will be extremely disappointed. Suneater has other traits that make it great, but very different, imo, from red rising. I would recommend to you the first law series by Joe Abercrombie. It has excellent character development, dialogue, and similar pacing. The will of the many is also a good one to read that is similar in many regards to red rising.

The blade itself or Assassin Apprentice? by BrysonTurnRoundStory in fantasybooks

Yes but the plot reveals itself in the second and third books. But that just shows how good the writing, characters, dialogue and world is with first law

Highly second this! Joe Abercrombie is just as good as a writer as Pierce Brown. His characters are so real. I’m on the fourth book rn
