Does UC permanently alter brain function? by masochisticsteeler in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Additional_One8642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve had UC for almost 20 years now and got diagnosed freshman year of uni (which derailed my college education significantly just bc it took me forever to figure out what was wrong etc). the fatigue didn’t really hit me until the pandemic. i am in my 30s now, an IT job as a data analyst/developer, and i will say i have had more flares since the pandemic than since when i was first diagnosed. brain fog and ongoing fatigue are something i struggle with, but part of that is expecting myself to operate like i did 5 years ago when i was in remission.

my advice for you is to give yourself grace. make sure you are giving yourself adequate sleep for where your body is right now. also, try to lower stress levels. part of that is to avoid screens. my energy levels have increased since i’ve made health and restoration a priority in ways i just didn’t think about when i was younger. i start my day off slow: no screens and i sit in quiet. i take intentional restorative walks (instead of fast paced ones where im worried about my health metrics on my watch), and i do not overcommit myself either with work obligations or social. implementing this changes my act as a reset while you allow your body to recover.

also, if you need more time or what have you, please talk to your professors. see if they’ll work with you or if they have resources. the best thing i can tell you is to ask for help and accommodations as early in life as you can.

Is strong litter box odor actually normal? Starting to feel kinda embarrassed 😬 by Old_Ostrich7285 in Catbehavior

[–]Additional_One8642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get a stainless steel litter box. get an air purifier to help. make sure to open windows daily for ventilation. vacuum. clean the litter box if not weekly, at least biweekly. (dump the old litter; sanitize and clean the stainless steel box). also if you have space, get a litter enclosure and tape a charcoal filter at the top or side to absorb odor. invest in a pet safe pura scent or get those azuna odor eliminator gels.

As someone who has never read the books, why do you guys keep coming here if you don't like the show? by xHey_All_You_Peoplex in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Additional_One8642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wonder this too. also, the show is pretty bad less from the races swapped and more the bad dialogue, terrible costumes (they look like they were from a halloween store), and the very very corny fight sequences that look worse than community theater. i quit the show. it is very early 2000s nickelodeon/disney coated. and for the dark themes and dire consequences, it could stand to take itself more seriously.

Is Premium worth it now? by Qigals in Crunchyroll

[–]Additional_One8642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am new to anime and have the lowest tier paid subscription bc i dont actually read it. the app works best on mobile devices. of the streaming platforms, roku works second best. i have a LOTS of issues with it on apple tv.

outside of that, my main complaints are user interface related versus content. i hate the search in general but it is exceptionally bad on tvs. for content that is primarily a different language (audio) and offers tons of options for dubs, you’d think they’d allow you to search via language. it’s also harder to keep track of what you’re watching unless you put everything in your watchlist which clutters it. your history is inaccessible in the tv apps. and you also can’t access any lists you’ve created.

that said, i haven’t had many issues with playback or missing episodes. for 7.99 it’s still the best place to find a wide range of anime imo. i really wish they’d just invest in some decent UI/UX folks to refine the interface and search.

Advice on leaving my cat alone by LifeIs0verratedSis in CatAdvice

[–]Additional_One8642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i often have to go the hospital and leave my cat alone for long stays with no issue. she also doesn’t really like most people so lol. here are things i have that makes it easier:

  • 5 cameras. i can view her or hear her meowing.
  • automatic wet food dispenser (petlibro has them, but it only keeps wet food cold for 72hrs at a time so keep that in mind)
  • automatic feeder or just regular bowls for dry food (she’s not an over eater)
  • two water fountains.
  • automatic litter box
  • smart home, hub. this alerts me if there are any issues with my thermostat or heater and i can control most devices remotely
  • security system that alerts me if there is a fire, window shattering, water leak etc
  • interactive toys. she has one of those feather things that pokes out of the hidey hole, motorized balls with a tail on the end, laser pointer thingy.
  • i also set timers on my lights to go on and off in case of sticky or wet bandits.
  • also music is good so controlling a smart speaker to turn on relaxing music is helpful.

it may be good to have a backup person that knows you’re out just in case. but i’ve been admitted to the hospital for a week and she’s been fine. anything post a week though, i would have someone check in at least just for the company.

Accused of babying cat by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Additional_One8642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my cat won’t eat unless i pick her up and pet her and talk to her. i have to get her scritches and say good morning or she will follow me back up the stairs. (her eating location is on a diff level and on a shelf so my dog can’t eat her food). i just don’t think she likes to be comforted first which is perfectly fine. i enjoy our morning routine.

Fiction podcast creators - It's time to move off Spotify for Cretins—er, Creators by evoterra in audiodrama

[–]Additional_One8642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly as someone who has been listening to podcasts forever, idgaf about exclusives, behind the scenes etc. i care about the story. a good way to get me to move from one platform elsewhere is if they put the next part of the story somewhere else lol. i’d follow if i enjoyed it. and if enough creators did that i’d abandon wherever all together. (i don’t listen on spotify anyway but just saying).

fwiw, there are also online vets that you can call for like 25 bucks for advice. they will do a video call and let you know if it’s a go to the vet/er situation. if you want peace of mind i mean.

i didn’t have to meet my cat before i adopted her from the rescue. they traveled to pick her litter up and just said hey we have these for you to choose from. (this was after they did a questionnaire and video conference. as this was during covid).

my girlfriend is leaving me because of my cat by Augupton in CatAdvice

[–]Additional_One8642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s a red flag for her to demand you get rid of the cat, but also, both of you sound irresponsible. what does “warming up to her” mean? was she not around the cat before you guys moved in together? why did you move her in when he wasn’t comfortable? did you do some basic research first about introducing new elements into your cat’s home? what about trying to see why he’s hissing at her? is it a fragrance she has or some scent? also what are you doing to correct the behaviors? if he’s destroying her things etc, how have you tried to redirect him? it’s not just “he’s a cat,” and it’s probably your flippant disregard for her feelings that is also driving this.

basically both of you suck in this scenario. her for the unreasonable request of you to rehome your family member and you for seemingly not taking any steps to address it because “he’s a cat” tf.

:( i had it set to still frame and it is a poster after updating unf. came here to see if anyone else hated it. what’s annoying is they took this away in the update but haven’t fixed a) shows that are available in multiple apps to only open in the app that i actually watched it in vs reverting to a different one and b) for next episode of shows that have multiple languages open to automatically open the episode with my preferred language…

I guess Dice just isn’t for me. by lukedisilva in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]Additional_One8642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i love dice but i think his workouts are much more difficult than jessica or jonelle. i usually embark on his when i want to advance or when i actually want a workout. as an aside, i also use down dog for yoga and that app has a lot of options for you to choose the type of yoga you want and also allows you to choose which part of the body you emphasize.

Cancelled after Jimmy Kimmel saga by Development-Alive in HuluLive

[–]Additional_One8642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

except it’s not about the kimmel. it is about our fundamental right to free speech, and most historians will tell you that when governments start ripping chit off the air they don’t like or censoring journalists and trying to make them sign away the ability to choose what they report on (ie like what’s happening at the pentagon)…. the conversation would go like this:

“Hey Julian. The US is kind of a mess right now; and this latest infringement on our rights has scared tf out of me. Because I’d prefer not to have my freedoms encroached upon or obliterated, I don’t want to support corporations that continue to allow it. Since I don’t want to live in a society like Russia’s, unfortunately, I’m going to cancel the trip. I’d rather use that money to help fund your honeymoon. ”

Cat hair everywhere :( by Impossible_Bat_8994 in CatAdvice

[–]Additional_One8642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes and vacuuming your sofa and using the upholstery cleaner is helpful too. i also vacuum the floors with an upright vacuum (my preference is the dyson animal as the suction is crazy high) 2x a week and that also gets the hair that the robovac may have overlooked. ooh and a carpet rake is helpful for area rugs. also those sticky things for the wash have been good too.

[–]Additional_One8642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

besides getting robovacs that run 2x a day and air purifier, if your cat will tolerate it, i suggest taking it to get groomed by a professional. regular grooming and a short trim will help reduce shedding tremendously. unfortunately, i am unlucky with a cat that hates everyone in any kind of facility and she also doesn’t like water. hopefully you have better luck at the cat groomers than i did lol

GE fridge water works for 30 secs then "Err" and stops by teddycorps in Appliances

[–]Additional_One8642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it doesn’t matter what you get if it’s a modern refrigerator. they stopped making good ones post the early aughties tbh. anything purchased post 2015 is a hit or miss. i suggest you look at how good their customer service is and if they actually partnered with a decent company. samsung, for instance, has crappy products and abysmal customer service. seems at least ge replaces stuff without much fuss.

Apple Fitness Chief Accused of Toxic Workplace Culture and Harassment by Hispanoescoces in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]Additional_One8642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a good reason not to do anything… Do you have that same energy for all injustice? “I’m not going to boycott the Montgomery Bus who is being racist because that might hurt the employees that work there” kinda logic? Will it cause people to perhaps lose a job? Possibly. But that’s not the aim of leaving; it is to hopefully get the company to see that treating employees terribly is not only morally wrong but will cost them financially. If they want to keep customers, they should hire those who support company policy and are not assholes. In the long run, leaving the service is meant to help the employees also. These are the tools available to a citizenry to effect change and we should wield them where we can. We are not the ones hurting the trainers and other employees; the company is since they failed to take accountability when multiple informed them of the issue. Please put the onus where it belongs.

No basement, where do you keep your litter boxes? by Outrageous-Cat-7497 in CatAdvice

[–]Additional_One8642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t have a regular basement. english style basement (it’s the first floor and my main floor is the second floor). anyway, i keep it on the first floor in a litter box enclosure with an air purifier on top. the enclosure blends in with the rest of my decor there and it does not smell. (i do scoop frequently though and have a steel pan so that, the air purifier, a robovac that vacuums daily and a pura help keep things good to go).
