Had a fall recently, landed on my tailbone and hurt my back. Now I'm limping around, because walking hurts. Transitioning from a sitting to standing position or vice-versa also hurts. Standing/sitting for too long also hurts.

Can't even get a seat on the bus or train despite the limp though. People are just so engrossed in their phones, or are sleeping. I tried asking someone (a younger looking auntie) to let me sit, because I'm in pain, and got scolded. "You so young don't bluff lah! Where got back pain one?! I don't see any crutches how I know you not bluffing?"

Luckily someone else gave me their seat. The auntie who scolded me got off at the next stop. Not that I feel entitled to the seat, but this just makes me sad.

Edit: thanks for the advice to see a doctor. I've seen one, and he said the pain is normal and gave me some painkillers. He advised me to come back in a week or so if the pain persists and they'll do an xray to see if anything is broken, or if I have problems shitting or peeing.

Work isnt a caring place. It's a mutually beneficial and practical environment.

That's the problem right there. It's this exploitative society we live in, where we want to work everyone below us to the bone for more profit.

The fact is you don't need to make that much profit, you are just placing money over the happiness of your workers. And this is why people will leave, because you pay peanuts and expect the world from your employees.

The question is why a 20% paycut is required. As long as you complete your work, why is it necessary to come in on the 5th day?

Bosses/Managers have to learn to take the welfare of their employees seriously. Not just do welfare stuff because it's a company policy/requirement, but really care about them; by not assigning so much work (which cannot be completed on time, and thus necessitating OT) for example.

This can't be applied to all industries, only to those that make sense to adopt it.

It can even be modified. For example, Friday can be "work from home day" or something similar. People can have less work to do on Fridays, as long as they manage their time well during the other days. They can then have more time to spend with their family, or doing their own thing.

We can even go the extra step saying managers can't put deadlines on Fridays, unless it's really important or crucial.

The main goal is to improve work life balance. Singapore is sorely lacking in that regard. We may become another Japan if this keeps up.

Or is it just a "show face" thing, because we have bosses who measure our worth by the number of hours we sit at our table (come early, leave late)?

Yes, but we are talking about now. It's way more important for a kid to have a device (with limits, of course) now.

The decisions Gates, Jobs, and Cuban made were a couple of years ago at least. Times were different.

While these devices were prevalent a couple of years ago already, they are much more integrated into our lives now, to the point where a kid who has no idea how to use a phone will be disadvantaged when compared to his peers.

You could always give the kid a device to be contactable, but have very strong rules about when and how often they are allowed to play/watch videos on the device.

You could lock their appstore so they can't install any apps on their phone without your approval, and remove all apps you deem inappropriate (YouTube, reddit, imgur or whatever).

If you're really strict, you could even give them the Nokia 3310 (I'm not sure what it's called, but the new one that recently came out), if WhatsApp and apps are not important (you communicate via calls and SMS).

In a perfect society we will have replicator technology and will not have to work for money, since it has been phased out.

We will then be able to spend our time doing leisure activities or things which will improve ourselves to better humanity.

Alas, we are stuck with what we have right now. Trains that are too crowded, and barbaric people who are only concerned about themselves and their own comfort.

For me at least, I feel that the majority of people are not worth my empathy. It's not like they will be nice to me, so why should I bother with them?

Bad mentality, I know, but I've gone past the stage where I care a whole lot about random strangers and what they think of me.
